The news has been flashed all over the sources of the media, hitting the town like a viral fever among the crowd. The recent murders had stopped people coming out from their house and another news of a dead victim sent the shivers in the people of Charlesrange. The police arrived at the site of the crime and covered the situation before any clue or important information passed out among the crowd.
After collecting the body from the site, CBI investigators recovered some clues and proof in the case. Their main subject was the knife which was found on the ground near the dead body of the victim.
“What’s the name of the victim?” Sphia asked one of the attendants.
“Kyle Spencer!” he replied.
“Okay! Did he live here?'' She asked for more information from the guards and other residents but nothing was suspicious.
“I have noted down every minute detail in these papers. Let’s take them back to the department or should we wait for forensic report first?” Andrew asked from Sophia who was busy surveying the area pensively.
“Are you okay?” he asked, to which Sophia looked at him.
“Don’t you think this murder is similar lie the earlier ones?” she had this doubt from the begining but without any solid proof, she couldn’t say that.
“I can’t be sure, but it baffles me to see people are getting killed like this. This boy was in college and today, he is just wiped off like nothing. All these things are disturbing. I am not able to compare anything anymore.” Andrew looked sad and depressed because of the murders.
“The worst part is that we haven’t caught that bastard yet. I am not sure either if this murdered is chained with other ones but there is no point to prove it at all. The killer is smart and clear. He knew he would get caught so he either hides, or left baseless clues to confuse us. The s**t is getting out of hands.” Sophia was concerned about the town and her reputation.
“Well, if we find that killer, i will do an autopsy on his brain. He is a mastermind. Killing people and then he comes out safe.” Andrew’s frustration was dropping from his face.
“It’s okay! Take your time, I am leaving for the department to repost about this. And we don’t have to wait for a forensic report for this. The department will deliver it themself.” Sophia closed the file and they both left in Andrew’s car back to the Police department.
When they entered, they found media and journalists encircled around the Police station.
“Not again! These people will scare normal people more than the killer itself.” she muttered under her breath before heading inside.
They were back to the chief and submitted their report on the incident. The chief wasn’t happy either.
“Sophia? You are the most reliable investigator in this whole town, I expected you to deliver the results faster but why is it getting delayed?” he demanded an answer.
“Chief, please, take it easy. I am trying my best. Sometimes, we couldn’t do much and wait and watch. O know you are upset to see such brutal killings, and so am i, but i am putting all my efforts to get this down. I understand my responsibilities but trust me, I will catch the killer soon.” Sophia explained to her chief.
“I trust you but don’t you think it is taking way too much time. I never thought people from Charlesrange can be this psycho. This killer has caused havoc in the entire town. I understand you have pressure from all sides but I have to give the Mayor an answer. He is going to discuss the safety measures and precautions needed to be taken in this case. Everyone is targeted but no one knows who is next in his game.” Chief was very upset.
Sophia stood silently and watched the Chief leaving. She was really pissed on herself for not catching the killer on time. She had a record of solving the mysterious cases under two hours, but this case altered her personality.
Andrew arrived with the forensic reports which Sophia threw on the floor.
“This means nothing! This s**t isn’t enough! What does this signify? Nothing!!!” she yelled but Andrew calmed her.
“It’s okay! We will find him, I have trust on you.” he said.
“But they didn't. The chief said that I needed to change myself, how am I supposed to do that? I have never been humiliated like this before. No one has ever doubted my profession because of what I do for myself. I support my family. How can I let them win because they are overpowering me now.” Sophia burst into crying.
Andrew caught her in a hug and patted her shoulder, it’s okay! We will find a way, we will.” he kept saying that.
“How?” Sophia was losing her hope and her sanity.
“I don’t know now but i know there will be a chance. After all, all bad deeds die one day in front of good deeds. Your prayer will be listened to.” Andrew calmed Sophia.
There was a knock on the door of the cabin and they both broke the hug, coughing awkwardly when the assistant arrived.
“Miss. Green, there is a girl outside. She wants to meet you.” she informed and left.
Sophia cleaned up herself and went to meet the visitor. Her eyes widened to see Luna sitting in the waiting area.
“Luna Bandcroft? What are you doing here? Sophia asked.
“I came to see you! I heard you had a surgery.” Luna said.
“Yes!!! But how can I help you.” she asked from Luna.
“I thought deeply about the offer you asked me to and decided to help you.” she said while muttering.
“Really?” Sophia was glee but stayed mad at her.
“Yeah!!” Luna said.
“I can’t believe it! Thank you Luna, you solved my issues. I can be more thankful to you.” Sophia begged and let out a small laugh while inviting Luna to her cabin.
