There were so many things Aniya needed to do but eating Nutella out of the jar wasn't one of them. She should eat like a normal human being with a spoon and she's aware of it but when you are late on the first day of your job you can't help it.
She needed some calories to get through lunch and Nutella was enough. Okay, she had planned for a healthy Nutella sandwich but due to her tardiness, she had no time to slice bananas and toast the bread.
Glancing at the clock again she hurriedly shut the jar and rushed towards the wash basin.
"Uh oh" She squeaked as water from the tap drenched the front of her dress. She had no time to mourn for that so she picked the napkin and tried to dab, but the contents from the napkin soaked the water leaving some marks behind.
She shook her head and wiped her hand and rushed towards the dining table. She picked her purse and her loose file and the ID from the table. And finally rushed out of the house forgetting to lock in haste.
As she was descending the stairs because the apartment elevator was out of service she climbed back and then locked the door. She was already late now.
This was her first day. She was going to meet her bosses, the twins that run the hospital. She was supposed to meet them right after her interview but they were not in town. They were in packhouse but they finally returned and will be joining back today.
She was a bit scared to meet them because Alphas usually disliked omega doctors because Alphas think that they are worthless and are entitled to serve in the kitchen. She has gone through so much already and the fact that she had two bosses was a bit worrisome.
She shook her head. She wasn't going to let that dampen her mood. She may be the only omega paediatrician in the hospital but that doesn't mean she should be worried. The bosses would definitely appreciate her and besides, she's a gold medalist so that might be impressive.
She hailed a cab and arranged herself as soon as she was inside. She shuddered as she remembered the last time she was there. After her interview, she was allowed to meet with some of the staff and she was shocked to see that there were only four omega doctors. In that ten storey building only four omega doctors.
But there was an ample number of nurses, they outranked the male Alphas. It was a good ratio, but for nurses only.
She didn't get the chance to visit every floor because of course everyone was busy with their own thing so she just saw the HR room and few open rooms on the way. She heard from one of the nurses that they had a huge common cafeteria on the fourth floor. Most of them have their lunch there, but many prefer to have lunch on their own floor.
"Ma'am?" The driver yelled breaking her from her thoughts to which she jolted back and blushed. She hadn't realised that they were already inside the parking. She paid the driver a dollar extra and then got out of the car.
Her eyes light up as she saw the huge RT letters and just believe them the hospital word was engraved. It looked more of a luxurious palace than a hospital. She sighed and then scanned her ID before entering inside.
As always it was crowded with the patients in the hallway and interns bustling around with white suits. She wanted to smack herself as she realised that she forgot her white suit on that dining chair. It was official. She was having the worst day.
She passed the huge earth statue in the middle, smiling as she noticed the detailed work and a quote that read, "Health is more important than wealth".
She tilted her head to look at the screen which displayed the floor numbers along with assigned cabins for doctors. It was easier for patients and doctors even though patients are given the brochure in the beginning.
She felt a bit odd that no one was in wolf form. Back in her tow,n most hospitals wanted the patients to be in wolf form so that they can be diagnosed quickly. It was a bit weird for her as well but she accepted it.
She chewed on her lips as she spotted the Omega's Healthcare on the second screen and then immediately it displayed Child Care. She sighed as she spotted her name, she felt relief sink in her bones as it was displayed with four other doctors. They were all her seniors, all Alphas so she had bigger problems, clearly.
After much struggle, finding the correct elevator, she got confused between doctors and patient's one, she finally reached her cabin. As she pushed open the door a smile lit her lips.
A bouquet of flowers along with new white suit and stethoscope and notepad was neatly placed on her table. It was exciting.
"It's all yours ma'am" A voice sounded from behind her to which she squeaked and looked back. Aniya noticed that it was a head nurse, holding a pad and pen in her hand. She was a beta. Aniya could easily smell the strong scent. She looked tired and stressed.
Aniya stepped inside but kept her hand on the door and let the nurse come inside but still, she stood at the edge of the door.
"Yeah... Thank you..." Aniya shook her head and then smiled again, "I am Aniya, the new paediatrician."
"Oh, we know" The nurse smiled.
"We?"
"I don't want to say this but you are our gossip of the week. Everyone is talking about the new omega paediatrician. We rarely get omega doctors here"
Wow. Aniya thought. She was already a gossip without even joining. It was going to be interesting working here, she thought and then she was silent for a while, unable to say anything to the nurse who was awkwardly shifting on her feet and she cleared her throat.
"Don't worry doctor, it'll die down soon. The gossip about the other four doctors did as well." The nurse said in an assuring tone to which Aniya stared at her. How was that helpful? She didn't voice that out instead nodded her head.
"Umm...sorry I didn't get your name"
"My mistake. I am Julia, head nurse in the paediatrics. You'll get to meet other nurses and doctors after your meeting with the boss."
Aniya nodded her head, soaking up all the information. She had no idea how it worked in this gigantic hospital because she was new to this. Sure she had experienced before but it was the only internship in her town which is equivalent to nothing.
"Okay. But can you please guide me to the bosses room. I have no idea" Aniya said turning her year towards the kind nurse who nodded her head.
"I am actually here to show you the way. They are waiting for you."
Her heartbeat rose at that. She gulped at those words and simply moved out of the door. She softly closed the door and then followed Julia who was walking towards the elevator. She was praying in her mind that everything would be fine and she would somehow maintain herself.
"How long have you been working here?" Aniya asked as they were waiting for the elevator to arrive. Julia removed her finger from the button and turned towards Aniya and blinked at her.
"Twelve years... Yeah, I joined in 2007." She answered to which Aniya's eyes widened. She couldn't believe that the hospital was that old. It was definite that her bosses were some oldies and those Alphas are difficult to impress.
She felt her stomach tighten at that and she distractedly looked around. The hallway they were standing in was quiet because it was away from the patient's elevator and she was glad. From the view, she could see the patients elevator and it was crowded and the cries and whimpers of kids were noticeable.
Two omega nurses were moving around and she chewed on her lips. It looked like a serious case and she wanted to go there and involve herself but she had to first meet her boss. She moved her head away from there and looked back at the nurse.
"You'll like it here. It's the most luxurious hospital and well the timings are shitty but the pay is good. You have to compromise something" Julia mumbled and they heard a ping sound of the elevator to which they both stepped inside.
Aniya thought about it. She needed money. It was the reason she was here in a big city. She had to earn much more money and finally, she could get rid of all her problems. Also, it's not like she had somebody to go home to. So the working hours won't be the problem. In fact, it would be good entertainment for her given she doesn't have any at the moment. She should buy a TV or a laptop with a salary.
"I don't have any problem with the timings. I am flexible."
Julia looked at her for a long time then questioned, "You don't have a mate then?"
"No" She answered without hesitation. She wasn't looking for one anyways.
All that was such a huge work and she was good without any mate. But sometimes as she looked at those pups she wished to have a mate and pups to go home to. She sighed.
"Wow. You're going to stick around then." Julia teased to which Aniya narrowed her eyes. The tone just didn't sit right with her and the way Julia looked as if she knew something about Aniya that no one knew was making her feel a bit uncomfortable.
You're just thinking too much, her subconscious reminded her to which she agreed.
"Yeah, I hope too. This would look really good on my resume"
"Definitely."
It was quiet for a while then and Aniya looked at the numbers on the board. Julia pressed the top floor. So her bosses were on top of everyone then. She stifled a giggle at that and then awkwardly shifted around.
"Doctor?" Julia called out and that's when the elevators door opened. Aniya turned around with a confused look on her face.
"My pager is ringing so I have to get down. Just take a left and you'll find the room." Julia said raising the device to which Aniya nodded her head. So it was an emergency she witnessed in that hallway.
"Okay. I have to come back on the same floor after the meeting right?"
"Yes doctor."
"Thanks"
"Good luck," Julia said.
Aniya sighed. She definitely needed that.
