chapter nine - plans
"How was the workplace? Did you like it?" Bruce asked me as I started to remove some of my clothes. It was 7pm and I just returned back from my little walk, during this walk, I encountered many things and people. Most of all, that little boy named Flynn was stuck in my head. Apart from that, I also checked out my workplace, it was a good place and I wanted to work there.
"It was nice, the staff is very sweet, I spoke to the manager and he told me that I could start working from tomorrow or next weekend if I wanted too. I am thinking about tomorrow because the faster I get a job, the faster I will go back to my home." I explained to Bruce. He was home the entire day and he was watching television and sleeping.
"That's amazing! I am happy that you loved it. The manager is my friend so he or anyone in that supermarket will not cause any trouble for you so don't worry about that and I believe you should rest for a couple days and start on this weekend instead of tomorrow but it is up to you, whatever you wish!" He said. I jumped on the couch beside him and folded my hands across my chest, he threw his arm over my shoulder and we watched the television together.
"Yes, but I want to go home soon. Plus isn't Sierra coming this weekend? She may have some trouble with me staying with you for so long?" I asked him and he shook his head in response.
"Don't worry about her, you know that she loves you and the last thing that she would do is get jealous of you." He laughed before continuing. "She'll understand and she knows you are my side chick so don't worry."
He was very assuring to me and I loved that. Everything about him and Sierra was amazing, I couldn't wait to meet her and throw insults to Bruce together.
"Okay, that's good!" I exclaimed. Putting my head down on his shoulder, I tried to relax for a couple moments but he repeatedly disturbed me by moving his shoulder again and again.
"Stop that!" I cried. "I want to be comforted and if you do not comfort me, I will get a boyfriend!" I stated and he let out a horrendous laugh. He started to jump around like a crazy fool after my comment.
"Please, do not, I will literally die if you do. You cannot handle boyfriends." He giggled. My face turned red and I was filled up with fury.
"I can, and don't you think it is high time I actually get a boyfriend so I can be happy and in love with someone instead of just wasting my life by working and living with my parents." I stopped for a second and thought about it. "Oh my god, I should get married!" I screamed.
But with who?
Who would possibly marry a mess like me? And I wasn't sure whether I was up for long term with someone. I haven't been in a relationship before so it was impossible for me to keep one. I only had a fling once and that fling still haunts me to this day.
"Please, Wendy, are you out of your mind? Are you high on something? Why are you talking about marriage, you are just 19 years old!" He said seriously this time. He stopped laughing long back when I bought the marriage topic.
"I mean yes but the earlier I get married the much better. I am not studying neither I am too focused on earning money so it is better to just get married and have babies." I said. Thinking about babies, Flynn's face came into my mind. I didn't tell anything about that encounter to Bruce since he would just over react to it like usual. But that poor boy was so frightened and sad when his aunt came to him. I wish I could've talked to him more and learned about him.
"Wendy, Jesus, are you okay? Please stop. You are nineteen. Period. You are not getting married to anyone, you are not going anywhere. I'm gonna start crying if you continue talking about marriage." He said with a sad pout smeared on his face. I smiled and laughed.
"Okay, I won't talk about it! Happy?"
"Yes, please. Thank you!" He said.
"Tell me, what should I do with my life?" I asked him and we both started to think about my life. I didn't even complete my education because my parents weren't funding me, they wanted me to get out of school as soon as I could. Joining a college was impossible since I wasn't interested in studying at all.
"You should join colleges," Bruce stated what just went across my head.
I shook my head and responded, "No, you know I don't like studying and my parents do not have that much of cash to pay for my college and plus they aren't any good colleges here."
"Yes, true. You will probably get expelled like you did in school." He laughed, I squinted my eyes and peered at him for bringing that up.
"Come on, you know that wasn't my fault. I was failing and I was in my worst condition." I explained. My last year of high school was terrific and just a complete mess.
"It's okay, I know. You should go travel," Bruce suggested.
I thought about it for a second. I wanted to see so many places but again I didn't have the funds for traveling.
"I am not rich, something else?" I said.
"Come on, you should take a trip to Las Vegas by yourself and learn, find peace, be happy and be away from this all tension." He said. He actually had a point. My favorite destination was Las Vegas, ever since I was small, I always dreamed of going to Las Vegas and playing on those poker tables with rich men but again I wasn't that rich.
"All expenses on me," he continued.
"No way!" I screamed. There was no way I could accept that offer. Las Vegas was an expensive destination and even staying for one night would cost me around thousands of dollars, I didn't have that kind of money and I didn't want anything more from Bruce. He had already helped me so much.
"Come on, you should, please. I will be happy if you go because you really need some time by yourself. Trust me, you feel a lot better when you come back from there." Bruce explained to me. He was right again, that place was something I could really enjoy.
"But I do not want your money, I will save up and go in the future!" I said and he shook his head.
"Please," he shook his head again.
"All expenses on me, let me do this for you! Just a couple days and you'll be fresh and back." He said.
"Okay but I will pay you back as soon as I get money," I said.
He didn't even agree to that, "No, Wendy, I am your friend, please do not make me a stranger by saying this all stuff. I love you from the core of my heart and if there is something you ever want just tell me. You don't have to ever pay me back. Get that!" He cupped my face and looked into my eyes before saying that all.
"But-"
"No buts, so it's final, you are going there alone! This week will be fine right?" He asked.
"Oh my god, no, Bruce. I cannot go alone, you know my social anxiety, I won't be able to do anything. You should come with me and keep me in company and no again. Not this week please, we will go next month." I said. My phone started to vibrate through my jeans, I pulled it out and looked at it to see two messages from an unknown number.
That was weird, no one has my number.
I ignored them and shoved my phone back into my jeans and continued with our conversation.
"Who was that?" Bruce asked with suspicion in his voice.
"No one, why are you asking?" I asked.
"Nothing, so any ways, it will be much better if you go alone and you won't be alone there. I have many contacts there that will help you with everything. Just call me and tell me if you need help with anything at all. And this week would be perfect. Just for three nights and when you will be back you can start working on this or next weekend." He said.
"Okay, whatever you say so. Why are you so eager to kick me out?" I asked him. It was so weird of him to suddenly bring the traveling topic.
"No, I am not kicking you out. This apartment will be available for you all the time. I need to renovate this place before Sierra comes." He said.
"Oh, okay as you say so. I am excited!" I exclaimed. Indeed I was quite excited for the trip. It would be a trip of lifetime because it's Las Vegas and that place is my dream place.
"Tomorrow morning, the first thing I will do is book your tickets and a hotel to stay for the three nights." He said and I nodded my head.
"You don't have to do this, I am completely fine and happy with my life but thank you anyways." I said.
"It is okay darling. By the time you will be here, Sierra will also be here so I will get both of my chicks at the same time. You need this trip for yourself and who knows you might trip a man there." He winked on the last part, I knew he was joking about it so I laughed on it.
"No way, I am not interested in anyone as of now." I said.
"Now, go sleep or eat and leave me alone. I want to complete this series," he argued and went back to watching the television.
"Okay, fine, I am going to sleep. Goodnight." I said before walking away from the living room and into my bed room. I pulled out my phone and sat down on the bed to see the unknown messages that I had received earlier.
'Hey, this is Marco. I was a little busy so I couldn't text you earlier.'
The next message read.
'Meet me under the building I dropped you, at the parking lot. By 8 o'clock, I will be waiting.'
I smiled like a creep when I read those messages, I couldn't be anymore happier. He texted me actually, that handsome man actually texted me. I looked at the time and it was almost 8pm.
I immediately rushed out of my room, just grabbing my phone and I walked to Bruce, I grabbed a packet of cigarettes and a lighter which were next to him.
"Where are you going?" He asked me. He probably got worried with my sudden actions.
"Oh, nowhere, I am going down to smoke and then I will sleep." I said. The fake story did make sense since he knew that I always go down to smoke for a little while. I didn't want to tell him that I was going to meet Marco down of his building neither there was any better excuse than smoking.
"All of a sudden?" He asked.
I nodded my head with excitement.
"Yes, I will be back soon. Bye!" I screamed before rushing out of his apartment and taking the stairs down to the parking lot.
