Chapter 9: Hiro

“We’ll see you later,” my stepmother said, as she and the rest of our family walked out of the palace, leaving me with my father to see the king. “Let’s go,” my father ordered and I obeyed. He then went on and on about the beauty of Atlantis, only I ignored him. My eyes were too fixated on the girl behind me that thanks to the man in front of me I could no longer call mine, and it hurt. “We’re here,” my father said as the doors to the throne room opened by themselves. Despite how weird it was that I was a fairy and how angry at my father I was, I was still geeking out over the fact that I was in Atlantis and magic was real. Not just real, but I had it and I would start learning it soon. When we walked through the door the room was already filled with about 30 people in robes facing the king who was sitting on his throne with both princes seated next to him. While about 20 or so soldiers stood along the side as if daring someone to attack. The scene was so surreal that I was reminded of those cdramas and kdramas that my twin made me watch and I hated it. The king who was engaging in a conversation with the audience quickly turned his gaze towards us and smiled as my father and I approached him while the rest of the room whispered loudly about who my father was. While I was used to the side conversations being had about me, it was weird to see my father in that role. “Aioki thank you so much for joining us,” the king said happily while my father bowed proudly before the king and I reluctantly did the same. As an American I was taught to bow to no one; however, growing up with what I had believed to be a Japanese father I was taught that bowing was a symbol of respect now I was just confused. “Thank you for having me Your Highness,” my father said. “Aioki? Mizuki Aioki?” One of the men who looked like an older version of that asshole Malik said. He was tall with skin the color of the Sahara Desert. About my father’s build and looked like he had seen his share of wars. He also looked like he came from a lot of money. “Cameron Bryant, so nice to see you again,” my father said, with this wide smile that took up his entire face as the two men embraced. “Let’s catch up after the meeting,” Mr. Bryant said. “Of course.” My father said. He then turned his attention back to the king. “Excellent. I now have my right and left arms back where they belong,” The king exclaimed joyously while the crowd cheered as if we'd just won a football game. “Pleasure to be back your majesty,” my father said. “Tell me, what did you learn before you got caught?” the king said. My father sighed “I learned that the traitor and his followers are planning to use the solar eclipse to invade our kingdom,” my father said and everyone including me gasped and I suddenly felt like Harry Porter as he learned about Voldemort. “How?” the king asked. “I'm not sure Your Majesty,” my father said. “And the traitor was he there or given orders through a communicator.,” the king asked. “The traitor was not present, but I do know that the attack on our home was not an accident,” my father said. “I suppose it wasn’t, they must have found you,” the king said. “We suspect they did Your Majesty. But we've managed to keep our guards up and stay under their radar for almost 20 years while hoping the portal would open, but we are happy the information we gave you helped” My father said. “And we are grateful for that information. Your sister must have told you in your last communication with her that your Intel helped stop a rebellion,” the king said. “She did your majesty,” my father said. “And now that you are home, we can celebrate your return and you can baste in a job well done,” the king said. My father bowed real low then said, “Apologize your majesty, but the celebration will have to wait until we find this threat and eliminate it,” my father said, sounding like a commanding officer. The king laughed and so did the rest of the party, “Back for one night and already chastising me. I understand your concerns, but we still must celebrate your return. As for the traitor and his group, we have already started planning countermeasures,” the king said. My father sighed then said, “As you wish your majesty. “The eclipse is but only a year away. If we do not eliminate this threat before, then they will be at our doorsteps and our people will be in danger. We need contingency plans for our people. If the city becomes a battlefield, then our people must be moved to a safe place,” the king ordered. “Yes your majesty,” the people said. “Your majesty if I may, I understand that this situation is important but we should also focus on the immediate threat and the princess’s ball,” a man who reminded me of a rat said. He seemed like a kiss ass and I knew I wasn’t going to like him. “Of course. General Lawrence,” the king said. “Sir,” One of the soldier fairies said with so much bass in his voice it shook the room, but apparently, I was the only one who noticed. “Attack the small village outside their town, they should give up in a matter of minutes,” the king said as if it were nothing. The man only bowed and then flew out of the room with a group of soldiers behind him. “Now that that’s taken care of. Prepare preparations for tonight's celebration and as for the princess’s ball, I leave that to my wife. You are all dismissed” the king said. Everyone bowed and then walked out of the room.
