Kayla. I heard the same voice from before say. This time I was walking blissfully through those same gardens with a flower in my hand and not a care in a word. Kayla be careful. You’re in danger. The voice said, but I ignored it. Instead, I turned around and the next thing I knew, I was lying on a stone bed and someone whose face I couldn’t recognize stood above me holding a dagger, but right when he was about to stab me, I felt this warmth flow through me and a woman’s voice. I then opened my eyes and saw the queen looking back at me, her emerald eyes staring into my brown ones as if she were healing me. Her hands were on my cheeks and we were no longer in my room for the night,
“Are you OK?” she asked worriedly.
I looked around and saw that I was in the hallway of what I assumed was the castle. “How did I get here?” I asked, confused.
“You walked. Are you prone to sleepwalking?” She asked as she released my face.
“No, I think that was the first time. I’m glad you woke me. I had a terrible dream,” I said as the images from that dream started to fade.
“Let me walk you back, you can tell me about it on the way,” she said, and I started talking about both my dreams, the one from before the fire and the one that just happened. She listened intensely and didn’t interrupt, instead, she waited until after I had finished speaking.
“Do you know where the voice is coming from?” she asked as we made it to my room.
“No, Your Highness,” I assured her.
“Ok. Go get some sleep, we’ll deal with this tomorrow,” she said, with a soft smile.
“Thank you, Your Majesty,” I said. I then walked back into my room and, to my surprise, she followed me in. I only smiled nervously and then sat on the bed. “Thank you for walking me in your majesty, I’m fine now,” I assured her.
“Are you sure, because the direction you were headed was very dangerous” she informed me.
“It was. I don’t know why I slept walked tonight. It's probably because of all the stress,” I said, finding it easy to talk to her.
“I understand, you woke up this morning in your realm only to discover everyone you love is a fairy from a kingdom you’ve probably only read about. Am I correct?” she asked, she then joined me on the bed.
“Yes, Your Majesty, that and the near-death experience. I should be sleeping in my bed right now, looking forward to going to Japan for a cruise. I just finished my freshman year of college, and I was looking forward to going back this fall. Now I don’t think I can. Can I?” I asked with a bit of hope in my voice.
She then raised her hand and gently rubbed my head the way my mother did when I was upset. “Probably not yet, but if all goes according to plan, you may be able to start your sophomore year next year,” she assured me and I smiled.
“Thank you, Your Majesty,” I said, then laid down.
“Do you think you can go back to sleep?” She asked, as she gently brushed my hair with her hand.
“I hope so,” I said, enjoying the attention. I then closed my eyes and she started humming a melody. It was a song my mother used to sing to me when I was a little girl. It always helped me sleep and the next thing I knew, it was morning.
I then rose out of bed, finally taking in my environment. The room was beautiful with a touch of red and silver sprinkled throughout it. Then there was the view from my balcony. I had caught a glimpse of it before, but this was the first time I could actually see the beauty of the crystal blue lake beneath it and the sun was warm and inviting. But the most amazing of all was the stars that were still in the pale blue sky. I smiled as I made my way out of the room only to be brought back down from my excitement by the scream that came from Hana’s room.
In a panic, I opened her door only to find her rummaging through her room for something to wear. “Is there a reason you decided to wake the dead this morning?” Hiro, who I didn’t even notice, was behind me, said, and I had to fight to control my urge to look at him. It really sucked how much control he had over me.
Hana stopped what she was doing and then looked at us. “Hello, I’m in a weird realm, I have no clothes, no makeup, and two gorgeous men are walking around out there, I refuse to look like this in their presence,” she said spitefully.
“You do know they’re your cousins, right?” Hiro said.
“Oh, I’m sorry, hi pot I’m cattle nice to meet you,” she said with hostility in her voice.
“I’ll leave you to it,” Hiro said, then walked away. I only sighed, then walked into Hana’s room and sat on her bed.
“Arrgh this sucks, that stupid fire just had to happen last night before I could grab any clothes,” she said, as she flopped on the bed and fell backward.
“Right, the nerve of that fire. Next time I’ll tell it to come after we’ve already packed,” I teased, and she hit me with a pillow. I giggled. “Sorry, I couldn’t help it. Did you at least bring something? I practically threw all my stuff out the window; however, I doubt you want to wear any of my clothes,” I said, as images of that night popped into my head.
“True I really don’t,” she said, then suddenly popped up and looked at me as if she were having an aha moment. “I did bring my clothes. I think I packed about 30 or some odd outfits because I wasn’t sure what I wanted to wear in Japan,” she said, which didn’t surprise me.
Of course, you did. And I guess from what you said earlier he told you what happened?” I asked, changing the subject to the thing I really didn’t want to talk about but decided to address.
She sighed and then looked at me, “Yeah he told me, why didn’t you?” she asked, a lot more serious than before.
“Because the last thing I wanted to talk about with you was him. Especially since I now feel like one of those crazy girls we used to make fun of,” I said, remembering his past girlfriends, if we could call them that, and how crazy they all were.
“You’re not them, you’re my sister,” she reminded me.
“And that’s the other problem. I am your sister. I’m his sister too. It sucks.” I said.
“Stepsister, adopted stepsister. We’re not really related,” she said, and we both laughed.
“True, but I don’t know Hana. I’m really trying to get past everything, and I was doing fine in college, even in high school with that asshole but seeing him again after what he did,” I said, holding back tears.
“I get it, and you have every right to be angry. Pissed even, but don’t let him get to you. Who knows you might find your special someone here in Atlantis,” she teased, and I laughed.
“I still can’t believe we’re in Atlantis,” I said in awe of everything.
“Hell me either. Do you think they have unicorns?” she asked suddenly.
“Maybe you are a fairy,” I said, hoping we’d find a unicorn.
Suddenly there was a knock on the door, but instead of waiting for a response, Gab busted in and said “Car’s outside, we are leaving,” then ran away as quickly as he came. Hana and I laughed before finally getting up and walking out of the room to join our family.
