For a handful of seconds, I forgot about my heartache and sorrow while I watched the city blur past the windows of the sleek, black limousine that we were in. It didn’t occur to me even once before, the thought of the devil living somewhere other than Texas but now when I see the tall skyscrapers and the buzz of the people on the streets, I know we are far away from the state that I lived for so long. “Where are we?” I look at the devil who’s already watching me and ask. “New York,” he replies, and I feel a small smile spread across my face. NYC, the city that never sleeps, there’s a strange feeling of giddiness creeping up on me and like a child before Christmas I can’t stop it from overtaking. As soon I was done with high school, for weeks I thought of applying to a college in New York
