I watch my feet sink into the sand as I walk along the ocean, my hair tumbling in the air with the breeze and the soft crashing of waves singing in my ears as I take in a deep breath of freedom and peace. For a moment then, I feel a tug at my heartstrings, a pull that I haven’t felt in a while now, and a pinch that only means one feeling, that’s happiness. When I begin to smile, the delicate sensitivity vanishes and I rub the ache on my chest with the tips of my fingers. I’m not walking alone, there is a man beside me, and his arm brushes my shoulders whenever we take a step. When I turn to the side to look at who he is, just like the fleeting emotion inside me, he disappears.
