“I would end it there if I were you.”
The clear warning in the voice made both of them halt in their conversation and actions. Hazel’s heart skipped a beat as the familiarity of the voice registered. She mechanically turned her body as her eyes frantically sought for the source of the words.
Hazel’s gaze drifted past Kevin and landed on Lenora. The vampire stood tall, taller than she could remember. Her grey eyes centered on Hazel with their intensity as thick as prowling clouds in a thunderstorm. Stunned, Hazel rested her weight against the book trolley which squeaked from the unexpected strain. Kevin, too, seemed taken by Lenora’s overwhelming presence and, like Hazel, was tongue-tied.
