Third Person P.O.V
She creeps into the room, the pin drop silence confirming that Lenora wasn’t within the immediate space. She stops to fully inspect the room, her sense of hearing picking the sound of water running. Lenora was in the shower, Amelia knows she should leave but the desire to see the woman up-close wins against her sense of self-preservation. She had to see the woman whose presence had Lenora acting so incontrollable.
Amelia stands over the bed looking down at the sleeping woman. She feels a little of her anger dissipate as she takes in her tranquil state, the blond hair sprawled over the white pillows with the comforter pulled high and tucked under her chin. Like this, she looked harmless. Amelia still couldn’t wrap her head around her sudden appearance in their lives. She also couldn’t fathom why Lenora was hell bent on protecting her and keeping her close.
“What does she see in you?” An unfamiliar womanly voice sounds above Hazel. The stony tone of the voice cutting through her torpor. Hazel struggles to open her eyes but every effort is unsuccessful, her eyelids seeming as heavy as lead. “What do you have that has Lenora acting so senselessly. You look just so…so pregnant.” Amelia couldn’t hide the exasperation especially after how Lenora had gotten physical with her. This woman had made them fight and the longer she stayed under the same roof as them the more Amelia was sure that she and Lenora would continue to butt heads. “What do you want from her?”
Hazel could distinctly hear the voice and the viscous disdain it carried for her. She again wills her eyes to open even a little just to see the woman but they don’t. Hazel feels trapped in her sleep and horrified at being at this unknown woman’s mercies. It was crystal clear that she hated her and such emotion drove people to do ghastly things. She’d amply learnt so from firsthand experience.
The bed dips and this causes Hazel to freeze further in place. She wanted to react, take a flight or fight response but her mind and body continue to betray her. Both heavily yoked in a dreamless sleep. A faint touch grazes her face before firm fingers clasp her jaw angling her head side to side as if undergoing close scrutiny from the woman. “You’re just an outsider yet you get to be this protected. Is it your blood? Is that what has Lenora so smitten by you?” Amelia’s fangs extend and she snarls lowly, intent on tasting her.
Hazel’s heartbeat starts to rise when her head is inclined to the side and her hair is swept away. She feels cool breaths on the skin of her neck and this makes her even more frightened. She wanted to fight, scream, push the woman away, but all these desires felt impossible. Through the whelming disarray, one person stays true. Her calm in the storm. Lenora. The name echoes in her mind. Hazel literally feels it in her soul, like an indescribable bond that ties her to her saving angel. She calls out to it again, in panic, just as sharp teeth rake across her skin, the woman’s proximity too close for Hazel’s own comfort.
“Stop!” Lenora’s commanding voice resonates in the room and it eases Hazel’s anxieties straightaway. Hazel feels the woman jump away from her and the room grew silently still. “What were you doing?”
Draped in a single towel with water cascading down her hair and body, Lenora steps carry her towards Amelia, a cold gaze fixed on the other woman. Amelia swallows, her breathing accelerating as Lenora’s grey eyes turned bloodshot. “Nothing!”
She comes to a stop near Amelia wanting nothing but snap her neck for what she’d been about to do to Hazel. Lenora peers protectively over Amelia’s shoulder wanting to look at Hazel. “Amelia, I swear to god I’ll suck you dry if you bit…”
The promise behind the threat is real. “No Lenora. I…I didn’t….I wouldn’t…” Amelia stutters defensively. She doesn’t wait for the second round of assault from a fired up Lenora who is still distracted by the woman in her bed. She uses her speed, whizzing past her friend and out of the room.
Lenora’s first instinct is to charge after Amelia, break her legs for her uncalled-for feat. Then again, the desire to ascertain Hazel’s safety supersedes the rage she feels. She moves towards the bed and takes a seat beside Hazel’s lain body. The baby’s heartbeat was consistent and Hazel’s was also steadying. Carefully closing in, Lenora examines Hazel’s skin for any bite marks.
The image and thought of Amelia’s fangs sinking on the expanse of Hazel’s velvety neck causes the beast inside to go blind with rage. Lenora lets out a snarl, the sound so chilling as she leans down even closer to the unconscious woman. A single word prevailed in her mind but Lenora didn’t dare say it aloud. She instead nuzzles Hazel’s neck, wanting to stamp out the last of Amelia’s scent that still lingered on her.
The damp hair rubbing against her face is like bucket loads of cold water thrown at her. She deeply inhaled the known scent that was Lenora’s and it easily cleared the fog that had her mind entrapped. Hazel groggily opens her eyes, adjusting them to the room’s lighting.
“Lenora.”
She hears her name whispered but doesn’t pull away. Her nose trailed down Hazel’s neck, tracing it against the pulsating vein that was so appealing. The blood rushing under her lips exciting the beast within. She was still full though, draining the four men had been so filling.
“Lenora…” Hazel calls out again, her hand moves to Lenora’s head. She massages the wet scalp, coaxing the head up. Lenora sits up, her eyes locking with sleepy blue eyes. “Hi.”
“Hey…um, hi,” Lenora muttered suddenly, feeling flustered by Hazel’s adorability.
A smile pulled at the corner of her lips at Lenora’s awkwardness. She struggled to move upwards and was instantly helped by Lenora’s strong arms. Drops of water brush against her skin and it's then she realizes Lenora’s state of undress. The towel barely clung to the broad chest with its length so short that it left the long legs exposed. “You…you.”
“What?” Lenora asked, concerned.
“Your…you aren’t dressed…dressed.”
“Oh? I just got out of the shower. You called for me.”
Her shower had been cut short by Hazel’s angst. She’d called upon her and Lenora had quickly responded by discontinuing what she’d been doing to get to Hazel’s side. Lenora scoots closer and reaches out to tuck the splaying blond tresses behind Hazel’s ear. “I’ll always come whenever you call for me.”
Hazel nods, unable to formulate any response. The contact, electric, awakening every nerve ending in her body. She had yet to fully grasp why Lenora had this crazy influence on her. She’d only known the woman for a short period of time, yet Lenora affected her so greatly. Made her act so strangely. Her eyes are wide and unruly, taking in every inch of the exposed skin before her.
“Can you…will you please get dressed,” Hazel asked, her eyes concluding their trip on Lenora’s grey amused eyes.
“Am I making you uncom…”
Hazel’s eyes again unconsciously rake over the body, everything about her actions inexplicable. She rarely ogled other people’s revealed bodies, let alone a woman’s. “No. It’s just…you’re just very distracting,” Hazel murmurs, honestly biting on her lower lip.
The honest answer catches Lenora by surprise and she simply gasps. “Oh.” She looks at Hazel’s flushed features and her beast lowly rumbles overly thrilled. Lenora was ecstatic, at least the attraction wasn’t one-sided. Hazel was reacting to her no matter how much the other woman tried repressing it. The blue eyes sparkle with life as they shyly look at her, threatening to pull Lenora into the ocean that swirled behind the orbs. “I’ll go get dressed then.”
Hazel watches the woman shift from the bed with some of her damp hair sticking to the sides of her face. Lenora walked away. Hazel closely watches her slide a wooden panel against the wall to one side, exposing a walk-in closet. Lenora disappears into space and Hazel is left staring into space as she awaits her return.
“Oh my god,” Hazel lets out, running her hands down her face. Everything about her life was currently impossible. Unbelievable. Like her life, was no longer hers, and all she could do was simply watch it unfold from the sidelines. Completely out of her control. “How did I end up here? How did we end up here Lea?” she questions, rubbing her stomach.
Lenora walks out of the closet before Hazel can further lapse into her regretful thoughts. The woman’s strides are long, purposeful and confident. The attire Lenora has on only seems to add to her appeal despite it being super casual. Lenora had on dark fitted jeans that ended a little above her ankles. The pants were paired with a pretty red bubble sleeved blouse with floral patterns and it gorgeously hung on Lenora’s frame. The once wet hair, no longer dripping but still damp.
“You look beautiful,” Hazel compliments when Lenora takes her spot close to her again.
“Thank you.”
“No…I should be the one thanking you Lenora. For what you’ve done for me and for my baby. We wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for…”
“Hey,” Lenora calls grasping Hazel’s palms. The hands, though small, feel perfect against hers. “It’s fine. I’m glad I did it Hazel. Ridding the world of those men was a small price to pay.”
“Ridding? Are they okay?”
“Hazel, it doesn’t matter how they are. Honestly, I don’t care about them,” Lenora asserts earnestly. The men deserved the fate they’d gotten and nothing would shift her outlook. “You, and the baby, are my only priority.”
“Okay.”
“Can you tell me what happened, how did you get there though? Who were those men?”
“Um…” Hazel sniffles finding the memories of the day’s ordeal too heavy to bear. “Those men were Farris’ men. He’s a loan shark Rowan and I borrowed a lot money from. Unable to pay, we tried running away but they caught up to us before we could even make a run for it. They kidnapped Rowan and I…”
“Who is this Rowan?”
“He’s my boyfriend. Well, was my boyfriend. He…he died Lenora,” Hazel finally breaks down as her mind replays the men’s smug voices as they delivered news of Rowan’s death to her. “Those…those men killed him.”
“I’m sorry Hazel. I didn’t…”
The sound of the bedroom’s door crashing against the wall has Lenora assuming a protective stance in front of Hazel. Her eyes glaze over with anger as she takes in the intruder. Hazel moves from behind Lenora and eyes the door where a fuming woman stood. She simply stares wondering what this place held against privacy.
“What did you do to Amelia?!” Selene demands striding towards her older sister aggressively. Lenora instantly perceives the challenge in her sister’s eyes and tone. She raises to her full height and she too advances forward. Lenora snarls warningly, the sound meant to warn her sister. Her behavior and rude arrival was insult enough and honestly Lenora feels too strung out. The number of people that had waltzed in and out of her room was unbecoming. She was the head the house and wouldn’t tolerate any more disruptive behavior.
“Leave.”
“Did you have to strangle her?” Selene asks all fired up. Amelia hadn’t told her of the fight with Lenora, she’d heard it being whispered amongst the servants in the house. She was yet to find and confront Amelia about it. First, she needed to know why Lenora had acted in such a way first. Attacking her mate, of all people.
Lenora lets out a dry chuckle, “Oh, of course. I’m sure Amelia came whining to you about it?”
“No.”
“Selene. Let me make this clear, I don’t have to explain myself to you or to anyone…” Lenora doesn’t budge as she easily clutches the hand that had intended on slapping her. She twists the wrist causing Selene to groan in pain as she frog marches her out of the room. Lenora turns to look towards the bed where Hazel sits as frozen as a gargoyle staring at their interaction. “I’ll be back in a minute Hazel,” Lenora assures and jerks her little sister out of the room. Mate or not, Selene needed a reminder on manners.
“Let go…”
“Shut it Selene,” Selene swallows at the curt response immediately heeding to her older sister’s command. Lenora rarely flared up, especially towards her. “You have a lot of explaining to do little sister. Let’s start with Stanley shan’t we?” Selene simply nods as she’s escorted towards Lenora’s office.
