LEO’S POV
“Her name is Marianna, she is the only one I didn’t give a surname because she was born way to early and we can call her a survivor. Her mom was in the middle of life and death, but she was still breathing and that’s why she was still able to carry her baby for an extra six months. Marianna was given birth to as a premature baby when her mom was to undergo two different surgeries. For the first surgery and the second, it wasn’t done immediately after her body was found close the water here.” She says pointing at the window, showing the clear ocean view.
“Her mom’s body was found close to the water?” I ask.
How can Brie’s body transfer from an ocean in Italy to one down here in Mexico? Is my wife alive or not?
“Yes, her face was pretty damaged. Her body had so many bruises, but one way to know that she was truly a mother was that she had her baby in her mind all along. The words she kept on murmuring has she was being carried to the hospital that night were for us to save her child. That poor lady was pregnant and she got into an accident? I pitied her so much and took all the responsibilities. When the baby in her tummy became six months, the doctor said it was still kind of save to bring out the baby. So Marianna grew in an incubator while her mom was under a surgery she had to spend six months in other to save their lives both. The baby survived, but…” She trails off to watch my expression.
Brie died? My wife can’t be dead… I don’t want to hear it.
“Did she survive the surgery?” I ask and hope for a positive answer.
“Yes she did. The surgeries done was one, to remove the baby and the second was a plastic surgery. If they had seen a picture of her or if her face hasn’t been damaged to the point that we couldn’t pin point her face, her surgery would have been done to look exactly like she was before.” She replies and a sigh of relief escapes my lips.
“If it was just a plastic surgery, why isn’t she remembering me?” I ask and a look of confusion evades her face.
“Why would she recognize you? Did you her before the incident five years ago?” She asks and I nod.
“She is my wife.” I reply and she says an ‘oh’.
“Where were you on the day of the accident?” She asks.
I was being an asshole. I watched her go out with herself depressed because of me and now I regret it so much.
“At home.” I reply.
“Well. She was diagnosed of Amnesia, due to concussions. She lost her memory and even her child she cared so much about was forgotten. She couldn’t recall her own name or remember a family member. So I gave her my late son’s wife’s name which is Isabella.” She tells me and I shut my eyes close.
The fact that she isn’t dead is of a big relief to me, but the fact that she doesn’t remember me or her past bothers me. I am the cause of her pain. I should never have gotten an innocent lady entangled to a man like myself.
“Her real name is Gabriella Amonte, but she is my wife her named changed to Gabriella Rucci.” I say, opening my eyes which must be bloodshot by now.
“How did you know that Marianna is your daughter? You need to have a test to confirm.” She says and I give out a bitter laugh.
“Actually I ran the test already. Can I talk to my wife now? It is my daughter’s birthday can’t I be there? I can buy whatever she wants and I want to take my daughter and wife back. I have been searching for my wife I even had the highest ranked investigation company hired to find my wife and the person who attempted killing her, but there was no trace. They were so careful not to leave out even a finger print.” I tell her.
“Leo, I would have allowed you to take your wife and daughter, but I can’t for the sake of your wife.” She starts.
“Pardon?”
“Your wife won’t agree into following you because she isn’t that easy and you can’t tell her who she is neither can you just take Marianna away from her. Indeed blood is thicker than water and that is why despite the fact that she lost her memory there is this pull between her and Marianna. She thinks it is just a normal affection for a child she pities. She treats her differently. She is good to the other orphans here, but she looks at Mari like her own daughter without knowing that Mari is truly her daughter. Taking Mari away from her will hurt her already hurt self. She doesn’t let her emotions out, so even I myself don’t know if she is okay. She suffers depression and sometimes shortness of breathe in a totally enclosed area. She doesn’t go through elevators only stairs.” She explains.
My Brie…
“I won’t take her away just like that, but what is the side effect of trying to remind her of her past?” I ask.
“Stroke and maybe death from a Cardiac arrest.” She says and I feel my heart drop.
“How about my daughter, can I send her gifts?” I ask.
“Yes, she is your daughter. But, I need a paper proof that she is your daughter. It is a law.” She replies.
“No problem, I have it with me.” I say and give her the test result from my chest pocket.
She goes through it and request for a lady who comes in to collect the paper.
“Scan it, make a copy and return this original.” She says to the lady who I assume to be her secretary.
“What does my daughter, Mari like? What are her hobbies? Has she ever talked about her dad before?” I ask and she smiles.
“She likes staying alone most times. She is very kind and can give out her favorite thing to help someone. She wishes to go to Disney land. She likes hot guys like Barbie’s boyfriend as she always to say. She hates bullies and most of all she has seen you in her dreams before. She mentioned seeing you in her dream a day before yesterday and she was right about having the same eyes as you.” She tells me.
“What if after sometime, I let my daughter know that I am her father?” I ask.
“You are scared of being rejected by your daughter?”
“Yes.” I reply and she smiles.
“Mari won’t hate you, but you can’t ever make the mistake of letting Mari know her mom is Isabella…” She adds.
“I won’t, but what if I come as her father? Brie doesn’t know she is her mother. The only way for me to get close to my wife and daughter is letting her know that Mari is my child the only thing I will skip is her mom.” I say and she nods.
“We can do that after her birthday today. You can attend the birthday party, your wife is hosting your daughter’s birthday big time.” She says and a thought of joy hits me.
Right in front of her there, I order for my daughter’s birthday present.
“Thank you so much, Lady Ann.” I tell her and she smiles richly.
Her secretary brings in the paper and tell her a thing in her ear before stepping out back.
“She requested for your wife to be her mommy today. You can stay around and when those bully kids ask where her father is you can come out and act like her father, which you truly are.” She says.
“Thank you.” I tell her.
The universe has retuned my wife to me together with my daughter who is now my life and I am ready to bring them to me. Bringing Brie might be difficult, but as long as she still loves me in her heart. It doesn’t matter if she remembers me or not we can fall in love all over again.
