NOELLE'S POV:
I had a good day at school, Cami stayed inside during recess until it was time for my duty and she went out to play and then I saw her by the fence talking to the guy that was inside my house this morning.
"Hey there." I walked over, smiling and Cami turned to me.
"You know my new Uncle too?" She asked and I just felt confused. "This is Jackie's brother. Avery. I get to call him Uncle Avery." She told me and nodded to Avery and I just smiled.
"That's so nice, I didn't know Jackie had a brother... but we might get Avery in trouble. And we don't want to do that. If any of the teachers see him talking with you through the gate, they will go out there and ask for an ID, and they'll start asking him a bunch of questions, and make him leave. So, while he is here, we have to act like we don't see him." I was doing to more for Avery than I was doing it for me. The principal this year was a little 911 happy about grown men hanging around the school.
"Ok. Bye Uncle Avery." She waved and took off for the structure and I looked back to him.
"I know you probably think that was bad-"
"No, I get it. I am guessing it's protocol if you see any man just hanging around outside the gates as kids play." He laughed and held up his hands.
"That and the Principal has called the cops like 17 times this school year based on men watching the kids. Some of them were distant family members, waiting here, just for the parent to come out with their kids. So, it's all a bit hectic." I told him and he nodded slowly. "I don't want her in trouble, and I don't want you getting in trouble either."
"I get it. Don't worry about me Noelle." He laughed lightly, and for a second, I saw Jackie's smile plastered on his face and before I could say that he did look like his sister I heard some kids shouting and not so nicely. I turned, taking the whistle to my mouth as I saw three kids pulling and tugging on a ball. I walked as fast as I could over with my ankle starting to sting as I stepped on loose gravel.
I got to the boys and made sure they had their time out before making sure I wasn't slacking in my 'area' of recess.
Once the last 10 minutes of the day were done, I had less energy and I wanted to go back to bed and curl up... but then I remembered what happened this morning and knew I was going to have to sleep in a strange bed tonight.
Thirty seconds until the bell I had the kids clean their desks, collect their lunch bags and get ready to go. I gave them high fives on the way out and I smiled as I saw Jackie waiting outside. I didn't get a chance to talk to her most of the time, but today she was holding two coffees and she walked closer and handed me the same iced coffee as this morning.
"Thank you, you really didn't have to." I told her and looked at it, it looked delicious. My body needed the pick me up.
"I heard about what happened this morning. I know how it feels to not be able to go home because of a shoot-out." She sighed and I raised my eyebrows. She was in a shoot-out too? "I guess I should tell you what happened before I just say that." She laughed lightly and she came in with Cami keeping busy with helping me clean the board.
I didn't have to be at a meeting for 20 minutes, so as I listened to what happened over Christmas break and how she's doing now, I was sure she knew exactly how I was feeling.
"Ms. Rolland?" I turned at Cami's voice and she was rocking back and forth on her heels. "Can I know how I did on my spelling test?"
"I haven't been able to grade them yet. But..." I went to get the stack and I looked through it and I knew that the words were hard for them, but easy for me. I went through them quickly, and Cami waited until I found hers. "You have them all correct!" I told her and she jumped up and around and did a little dance.
"I get another star sticker!" Cami told Jackie and she ran back to the chart and I smiled and pulled out the new rainbow stickers I had, and I got up to follow her back.
"You put it on." I told her and she squealed and moved to make sure that it was on the right name, in the right square and then she stuck it there and jumped up and down. I gave her a high five and she jobbed back to Jackie. She started talking about her prize and what that meant I had no idea but I was cleaning up the tests before putting them to the side so I could do it when I got back from the meeting just before Ryan picked me up at 4:30.
"I have to get to a meeting in the office, but I can walk you guys out." I said to them and Jackie nodded and pulled on Cami's hand. I took the coffee and sipped as Jackie started to tell me what she could have ready tomorrow morning with Ryan, and I came in for breakfast.
I gave her my order, making sure to make a mental note to make Ryan take me to the bank either today or before we got to her café tomorrow morning.
I waved at them as I made sure the gate was closed and I walked right into the office and sat down for a meeting all us 2nd grade teachers had to attend. There were four of us, the principal, the vice principal and the special-ed teachers joining and weighing in.
RYAN'S POV:
I looked through the gate 5 minutes after 4:30 and I waited for a sign of Noelle coming out. I sighed and went to lean against the truck before looking around. I saw the office, but before I could even wonder if it was open, I was heading there.
The door wasn't unlocked but the receptionist I saw this morning when I dropped Noelle off was there behind the desk and she smiled and waved. She got up quick and pushed the door open for me. "Are you here for Elle?" She asked and I knew exactly who she was talking about. I hadn't heard the nickname, but it wouldn't be short for anyone else I knew.
"Yeah, she's in her room I am guessing." I offered out just in case she was somewhere else.
"Yeah, their meeting ran a little past 4 so she should be there." She waved me on, and I made my way down the halls, and saw her door still wide open and I went to stand in the doorway. She was at her desk, some glasses on her head like she had used them but didn't need them for the grading she was doing and then she reached for the almost empty coffee cup she had.
I walked closer, knowing she could hear me as I did, and she looked up once she was done with a paper. "Hey. Sorry, I am almost done and then I just need to put the stickers up." She said and then she turned, pulled her glasses down, and started to write small into a grade book and then she stood, grabbed some fancy star stickers and walked to the back of the room.
She put up the stickers and I knew that she seemed frazzled and I just watched her as she kept collecting papers and putting them to the side or in the bag, she was taking to the compound with me. It was so damn amusing and sexy as she kept pushing her glasses up on her head when she looked at the papers closely.
I had gone back to her house after I dropped her off, collected her clothes, her laptop, the bags she didn't want to bring today because they had bullet holes in the side and I went up to collect her shower s**t and put it all in my room back at the compound.
The only open room was Lucien's at the compound, but even that was going to Avery as he worked with us, and Bellamy on fixing up her house. She and I were going to be sharing a room, and a bed, and each time I thought about it I got painfully hard.
Her little ass wiggled as she bent over to get the straps of the bag she had filled up and I looked from her hips to her ankles and enjoyed the view in its entirety.
"I just need to make about 35 copies of something before we leave... I will be right back." She told me before taking off. I sat around the small class and waited a good 15 minutes before she came back.
She put the new copies on her desk and nodded before looking around. It was like she was doing a mental check list and I just smiled at her before she looked confused and I laughed lightly. "What are you laughing at?"
"You just look damn cute. What are you thinking about?" I asked her and she sighed.
"I was thinking about the plan for tomorrow. It's the fire drill but I can't remember what time it is. I will have to ask someone tomorrow morning when they get here." She told me and sighed before shaking her head and she went for the straps on the bag and I reached around her, loving how she scraped my side in surprise as I took the bag.
"Let's go." I told her and she nodded before looking around the room as if doing another check list before grabbing her keys and then we were out the door, just after she locked the front and back door, even though the back door of her class room hadn't even been opened today.
She still had a bit of coffee in her cup and I had to laugh as she seemed to savor it on the way to the compound. She must have gotten another one somehow today, and I had to wonder if she was going to be able to sleep tonight with that much sugar and caffeine in her system.
If she couldn't I was sure I could help her burn off some of the energy.
Maybe I could stop and pick up another one... "Want another coffee?" I asked her and she looked at it before looking up at me.
"I shouldn't. I won't be able to sleep if I do. Jackie was nice enough to bring me one when she picked up Cami." She pointed at the one she had just finished, and I nodded. "Speaking of, can we stop at a bank. I need to get some cash out for her."
"Jackie won't take your money." I should know. I tried to pay for it, and all she did was toss it in the tip jar. And she didn't even take the tips. They were all for her employees.
"Doesn't mean I can't leave a tip." She shrugged and I knew the feeling, so I asked which bank, went to the closest one and I walked with her inside. She went up to the window alone and I waited as she seemed to have a pleasant conversation with the boy behind the counter. He looked from her, to me where I was standing behind her and the smile fell off his face.
Noelle must have seen the change and she looked from him, back at me and she seemed to laugh it off before coming to walk out with me. I put my arm around her and helped her into the truck when I saw her hesitate to lift herself with her bad ankle on the ground outside.
I got her to the compound, and I slowly made the introductions before seeing that someone had started to make some BBQ chicken, enough or everyone here. Before I could find out who, my sister popped up out of nowhere and she smiled wide at me as she saw my arm around Noelle.
"Hi there." She called out and I saw Noelle look around before she saw Tara and she smiled slightly.
"Hi, I am Noelle." She held out her hand, and I saw the quirk of Tara's eyebrow as she looked at her, then me, and then held out her hand to shake.
"I am Tara." Noelle recognized the name right away from last night and she smiled.
"Middle sister who supposedly isn't allowed to date right?" Noelle said and Tara laughed and looked at me.
"If that is what he told you, it's just to make himself feel better." Tara said and I saw the way she smiled. She was kidding, she had to be, there wasn't anyone around here for her to date. Not to mention her other job. If the brothers saw her flirting, or even denying a man’s advances they were to make sure the guy backed off.
"I knew it was something like that." Noelle smiled up at me and I just kept my face stoic.
"So... what are you doing here?" She asked and looked between us and I sighed.
"She's staying here until her house is fixed. Bell and Avery will be with her when I'm not."
"What happened to your house?" Noelle seemed reluctant to tell her, like she was going to be in trouble or something, so I told her, the entire story. Even the part of her being the one to hit my bike.
"At least we know about the drugs being smuggled now." Tara shrugged and looked at me and then to Noelle. "And if my brother is protecting you, make sure that he protects himself. We so don't need another accident running around. Cami is cute and all but-"
"Thank you, Tara, aren't you supposed to be at the other bar?" I know she didn't just talk about us f*****g, I didn't want to hear her talk about my activities ever, let alone right in the face of the woman I hadn't even f****d yet.
"Yeah, but I have to make dinner or all you hard-asses would starve to death. It's almost done, and I will head in. Jackie gave me the recipe for her cheesy mashed potatoes."
I pulled Noelle with me and I wrapped her tight to my side as we passed some of the guys who had started drinking before we showed up. I pulled her to our room, and I pushed open the door. The carpet was clean as I could get it, her laundry basket was on the bed with the new clean crisp sheets, and I had hung up most of her shirts in my closet.
"So... where will you be?" She asked looking around knowing that there wasn't another door that didn't already show off the bathroom.
"We will be sharing this one." I told her and I saw her breath hitch as she looked around and then up at me. I saw her eyes widen and I waited to see what she would say.
"Like... I'll sleep on the floor, or an air mattress...?" Her eyes darted around, but when my hand snaked out to catch her hip, she seemed to relax a bit.
"As in we will share the bathroom, and the shower, and the closet space... and the bed."
