An ear-piercing screech woke me from a dead sleep. Xeraphina immediately started wailing, then I heard Jake’s scared cry from a few feet away.
I looked around in dismay, trying to figure out what in the hell was going on, and noticed there were warriors running to the right of us, away from the shoreline. Xavier was already on his feet and about to join the warriors when I grabbed his hand and reminded him, “You protect our queen and our young.”
Not wasting a second, Xavier reached down and grabbed my hand, then he pulled me up to my feet. As I scooped up Xeraphina, Xavier shouted, “We need to get further away from the chaos!”
“Run to the water! We can use it to our advantage if needed!” Jameson yelled, tugging on Savannah’s arm.
