Chapter Six - Lunch, new friend and hanging out...

1303 Words
Nolan’s P.O.V I was heading to meet Maya. The first half of my day had gone pretty well. I headed towards where we arranged to meet. I realised she was not alone. She had three guys standing around her. They were flirting and clearly chatting her up. She was giggling and chatting back with them. That does not surprise me. She gets attention everywhere she goes. She is a beautiful girl, can understand why. Though, she seems to attract sleazes to be honest. She seems to like the sort of “bad boy” types. There are not bad boys. They are plain and simple assholes! There is nothing else to it. I then notice another girl sitting with her. She looked nervous and out of place. The guys completely ignoring her. I knew that feeling. It is something you need to get used to when you are friends with someone like Maya. You become invisible quickly. I sighed, making my way over. I never really wanted to go over with those guys there. “Hey,” I said loud enough for her to hear me. The guys looked over her shoulder, looking at me. They looked me up and down. I know what they were thinking. Why is someone like me talking to someone like Maya? “Nolan,” She said excitedly coming over to hug me, “How was the first part of your day?” she added. “Fine,” I laughed, hugging her back. You would think she has not seen me in weeks, not just for a few hours. “You know him?” one of the guys said, looking me up and down. “Yes. He is my best friend. And if you are gonna look at him like that, the lot of you can f**k off.” She said, glaring at them. “Geeze! Calm down.” One said, laughing, “Let’s go guys.” The same guy added. The three of them headed off. I understand she is looking out for me, protecting me but if she keeps scaring all the guys away, she is not gonna get anything. That either being a date or s*x. “You are cockblocking yourself, do you know that?” I laughed. “Maybe but you are more important than me getting some dick.” She laughed, hugging me again. The girl sitting at the table never knew where to look. Oops, I forgot for a moment that we were not alone. I watch the girl blush slightly. “Sorry, Charlotte.” Maya giggled, “This is my best friend Nolan. My new friend Charlotte or Char for short.” She added introducing us. “Hey, it is nice to meet you.” I said giving her an awkward wave. I do not do well with meeting new people. I really am socially awkward. “Um…hey. You too.” She said nervously. I am guessing I am not the only one that is socially awkward. Maya looked at us both, laughing and shaking her head at us. “You two are as bad as each other. I swear if it is the last thing I do I am gonna make the both of you less socially awkward.” She laughed as we sat down. “We can’t all be social butterflies, baby girl.” I laughed. “Why not? Why should we care what other people think? We should all flourish and screw everyone else.” Maya said, seriously. “That is easy for someone like you to say. Look at you.” Charlotte laughed, “You are stunning.” She added. “What and you are not beautiful?” Maya asked Charlotte shook her head, “Yes you are, there is nothing wrong with you. There is nothing wrong with either of you. You both need to realise that.” She added, looking between Charlotte and me. That was the thing about Maya. Yes, she was popular, a cheerleader in high school but she never brought anyone down. She was nice to everyone. If she saw anyone being picked on, she was quick to stop it. She had a spirit in all the right ways. “I don’t believe you but thank you.” Charlotte said with a smile. “Can we please now go get food and coffee?” I asked, giving Maya my best puppy dog eyes. “Yes, let us go. I need both of those.” She laughed. The three of us headed to grab lunch and coffee before deciding to go outside and sit for lunch. It was a nice day. I could see a lot of the guys checking Maya out. She barely noticed though. It was only the first day. She would soon start noticing the guys more around her. She enjoys dating. She enjoys hookups and make-out sessions. “How does your classmates and Professors seem?” she asked me, as the three of us ate. Charlotte not really saying much. I understood though. She had only just met, and she has not exactly known Maya that long either. “Yeah, everyone seems alright. The professors seem decent enough.” I smiled, “I am guessing you two are in the same classes?” I added, looking at them both. “Yes, we met in first class.” Charlotte smiled. “Yes, we did. She is gonna be our new friend. Well if she doesn’t mind anyway?” Maya said, giggling at the last part. “No, I don’t mind at all.” Charlotte giggled, “As long as you don’t mind Nolan?” she added, looking at me. “Not at all,” I said smiling back, “You staying in the dorms?” I added. “No. I stay not too far from here. I am still staying at home for the moment.” She smiled. “That is handy,” I laughed, Charlotte nodding in agreement. “You should come to ours tonight? We can all hang out.” Maya said. “I would like that.” She smiled, “I don’t really have many friends, to be honest. High school was hell for me.” she added. I knew how she was feeling. If it wasn’t for Maya, I would have had no one. “Yes, it was the same for me. High school was hell. I was lucky though, I always had Maya. She has always had my back.” I said smiling. “How long have you two been friends?” she asked. “Sixteen years.” Maya said, smiling proudly. “Wow! That is a long time.” She smiled. “Yes, but I couldn’t imagine my life without him.” Maya said hugging me. I smiled, nodding in agreement with her. I couldn’t imagine my life without her. “Have you two, like um ever dated or something?” Charlotte asked. Maya and I looked at each other, screwing our faces up and shaking our head. The both of us laughing, Charlotte doing the same. “I will take that as a no then?” she laughed. We chatted for the rest of lunch before we had to head back to classes. I would meet up with them both at the end of the day. The three of us going to grab a coffee before going back to our place to hang out. I am happy Maya and Charlotte met; it gives Charlotte a friend. Here is to hoping maybe I can meet a couple of friends myself. That is gonna be easier said than done. You never know. This is college after all, not high school anymore.
