Chapter Five - First day...new friend.

1325 Words
Maya’s P.O.V I was overly excited. Today was the day. Nolan and I’s first official day as College students. I could not wait. I could not wait to learn new things. Meet new people. Meet new cute guys. I had been up since six a.m. gave me time to get showered, ready and chose my outfit. Nolan, not getting up until seven-thirty. Classes never started until nine. “Does this look alright Nolan?” I asked him as I walked into the living room where he was waiting. I had my skinny jeans on, a pink crop top and my boots to with them. He looked up, looking me over. “Yes, you look good. Now can we please go. I want food and coffee before we head to the campus.” He said. “Yes, that is me ready.” I smiled. “Finally!” he said throwing his hands in the air laughing. I rolled my eyes at him, flipping him off. He got up from the sofa and we made sure we had everything before heading out. We decided to walk, the campus was not too far from where we lived. We stopped by a café grabbing breakfast to go…breakfast rolls and coffee. “What is your schedule? Do we have the same lunch?” I asked He grabbed his phone, checking his schedule and I done the same. “Yay, we do.” I smiled. “Thank God. I really never wanted to have lunch alone like a loner on my first day.” He said, “I do not need College being the same as high school for me.” he added. “I am sure it won’t be. Surely people in college are more mature than that?” I said, “Plus, I got your back, baby boy.” I added resting my head on his shoulder. “I know you do,” he said, kissing the top of my head. We sort of already knew our way around campus for when we came to visit when we were looking for what colleges we wanted. “You nervous?” I asked him as we arrived outside. “Yes. I don’t wanna be the nerd again that no one wants anything to do with again.” He said sadly, “At least in school we were in most of the same classes…here we have none.” He added. I understood where he was coming from. He really did have a terrible time in high school. At least I was there to protect him, here not so much. He may be alright though; he is studying to become a College Professor of maths. I am sure the class will have many people like him, highly intelligent. He was one of the smartest people I have ever met. I am not only saying that because he is my best friend…it is the truth. He was one of the top three in our entire school with the highest IQ. “I am sure it will be different. At least they won’t be full of dumb asses.” I said, “I am sure they will all be in the same league as you when it comes to intelligence.” I added. “I really hope you are right.” He said. “I am. Maybe our roles will change in College. You will fit in, I won’t.” I said. “Bullshit! You fit in everywhere that you go,” He said. I was studying fashion and design. It has always been a love of mine, drawing, creating, and clothing. I have wanted to do this since I could remember. “Hopefully, we will both do just fine.” I smiled, kissing his cheek. I wondered how different College was going to be from high school. Our first week would be getting introduced to our Professors, fellow students, what is expected from us, the work we will be doing for the year etc… then classes would actually start next week. “Well, I am heading in the opposite direction from you.” He said, “Yes, meet you back here at one for lunch?” I asked. He nodded, hugging me and I happily hugged him back. “I love you,” He said kissing the top of my head. “I love you too. Have fun.” I smiled. He headed one way, I headed another. I was nervously suddenly. I am not one to get nervous, right now I was feeling it though. Then again, I guess this is something brand new for me. In high school, I had all my friends, boyfriends…Nolan. Now here I am, needing to do this alone with none of that. I would be OK after a few days. Hopefully. I took a deep breath, checking my phone to double-check the room I was going to. Room 256. I headed to search for it, heading it. There were already a few people in. A couple of girls sitting together, whispering, and laughing. They are either friends before they came here or hit it off really quickly. The others were all sitting alone, looking as nervous as me. There was one girl that seemed more nervous than everyone else. She was sitting on the corner, her leg bouncing up and down. She kept playing with her hair and glasses. She seemed different from everyone else. The way she was dressed and things. She reminded me a little of Nolan to be honest. The shyness about her. How nervous she was. I smiled, heading over to where she was. “Hey, do you mind if I sit here?” I asked, She looked up, seeming surprised to see me standing there. “You want to sit here with me?” she asked looking around. She was sure similar to Nolan. “Yes, if that is OK?” I smiled. She smiled back, nodding and I sat down next to her. I could sense she was anxious. “I am Maya,” I said, “Charlotte…Char for short.” She smiled. “It is nice to meet you Charlotte,” I said. “You too, thank you…” she said. We got to talking, she seemed to relax a little. She was a year older than me. The two of us seemed to flow easily in conversation. The rest of the class filled up, about twenty-five students coming in. “Good morning everyone and welcome.” A pretty woman said, coming in, “I am Professor McGuire, I will be teaching you design and how to get the perfect portfolios.” she added smiling… She chatted about what we would be doing in the first semester. I was intrigued by her. The way she spoke about things, her confidence. I would happily let her teach me all year. I would say for the first day here, it was going well. The hour passed that quickly. “What other classes do you have today?” Charlotte asked me as we headed out. I checked my schedule, her doing the same and it turns out we have most of the same lessons together. “At least I will know one person,” she giggled, “Yes, me too…” I laughed, “You should join my friend and me at lunch. My best friend Nolan comes here too, he is doing a different course though.” I added. “I don’t wanna be a bother.” She said wiggling her nose. “You won’t be.” I smiled. She did finally agree to join us for lunch. I know Nolan would not mind. I think I have possibly made a new friend. Maybe College will not be as bad after all.
