Chapter 6- Rachel

1725 Words
The days went faster than the nights because of dealing with Paula when I got back to my chamber. I was starting to get irritated with her with every day that passed, and I knew it had everything with her changing an environment because that was certainly not how she was before. “When do you plan to clean up the goddamn room Paula?” Anger seared through my body as I found her laying on my bed with a box of chips made for me by the maids. It was hard to make them because of our potato scarcity, and I craved them all the time. So now that I had the power to have it whenever I wanted, I took the opportunity faster than lightning. “I will clean it, stop whining. You know you don’t have to go through all these if you just tell Robbie about our plan right?” I folded my hands over my chest which was covered with a dry towel I just wrapped around me after bathing. “You don’t tell me what to do Paula.” I turned my head away as a weight settled in my chest when I remembered our last meeting. Just a few minutes later, I would have to sit next to him and I would take the chance to tell him about Paula. Whatever happens after that wouldn’t be my business because I was leaving to my chambers, which was an Alpha Robert-free area for now. “Fine I’m sorry,” she put down the can of chips on the bedside. “I’ll have to figure out my style as the new Luna either way, what color do you think will match with my skin?” “What color matchesd your skin when you ran away with your Alpha in shining armor?” I asked mockingly, then she flashed me a death glare. “I didn’t get the chance to be his Luna because he turned out to be a snake, but hey that doesn’t matter.” I raised a brow at her before I shook my head and headed toward my closet. I had arranged everything in there neatly about two days after I moved here and since then, I’ve only worn a few because I barely went out. I picked up my usual sun dress which was my usual style because even though I was the wife of the Alpha and had almost everything I wanted right within arm's reach, I wasn't given in to bling. I was okay with my usual sun dress and plain pigtails that fell loosely on my shoulders. "Don't you get tired of your plain style sister?" Paula asked, making me incline my head towards her. "I didn't see when I asked for your opinion about that." I retorted as I wore my underwear, then proceeded to wear my outfit for the day. I brushed my hair with a fine-toothed comb, then separated it into two equal parts and braided it. "See you later sister." She blew me a kiss which only made me roll my eyes before I picked up my usual stuff. "Make sure you arrange the room before I come back. I don't want to convince myself that the neat freak you were before you left our pack had suddenly disappeared into thin air." "So what if it has? I mean, it is fun to be a little bit messy." She winked, which made me chuckle. "Who are you and what have you done to my sister?" I smiled genuinely for the first time since she came back to the Tick Moon pack. I thought I was going to regret having my sister back but it only turned out to be one of the best decisions I've ever had because finally, I had something called the family to fall back on. I've been living in loneliness and depression up until Paula was back and I finally had someone to talk to. We said our goodbyes before I left the house and locked it so any spirit of impulse that tells her to leave the house doesn't work because she couldn't break the locks from the insides, fortunately. ~ I got to the pack meeting just a few minutes later than Alpha Robert. When our eyes locked, I forced down a sick feeling in my throat as my heart pounded in my ribcage. I wanted to run away as far as my little legs could take me, but I couldn't. I knew I had to face him one day or the other, I couldn't stop it, so I just had to put on a charade until the whole thing was over and I went back home to my chambers. He stood up when I approached my seat which was just next to him, "Good morning Rachel." He extended out a hand to me. I looked over at his face, then his hand, and scoffed. He must be sick in his guts if he thought I'd ever touch him again. He put his hand down in embarrassment and looked over at the pack's committee while he silently prayed they didn't notice me ignoring him, but it was already too late. We both sat back down and I could feel his gaze on mine as the meeting started. "You are still not going to talk to me, Rachel?" He asked after giving his Beta the chance to speak what was in his mind to the people. "What do you want me to say to you, Robbie? Thank you for almost raping me because I was not pregnant?" I turned my head to him sharply. Surprise flashed through his eyes, then hurt, "I was never going to do that to you." He croaked out, his throat bobbing up and down as if he was on the verge of tears, but I didn't care. "Yet you did." I rolled my eyes as I focused back on the members of the committee who were giving us questionable glances. "I want the meeting to be adjourned," Alpha Robert stood up from his seat. "There is something important I need to discuss with my wife." He stretched out his hand towards me, and I quickly accepted it because of the look in his eyes. I knew better than to defy him when he was in that mood, and I knew even better than to follow him back to the palace despite what happened the last time. But before I could think twice about it, we were both out the door and on the way to the palace with his guards catching our pace behind us. The walk to the palace was silent. The only thing I could hear was the violent throbbing of my heart and the sound of his heavy footsteps. After a few minutes of trekking, we got to the palace and he shoved his hand, dismissing the guards that were following us earlier. He took me upstairs to our room and shut it close, then pinned me to the door. "You are driving me so f*****g crazy Rachel," he rasped as he ran a hand through my left braid. "I told you, I'm sorry." "It doesn't change anything Robbie." I shrugged as the strong urge of pushing him away struck me like lightning, but I couldn't because of the consequences that came with it. Alpha Robert didn't take rejection lightly. "I want you to come back to the palace, I miss you." "No," I said almost immediately in defense, which made him stagger back in shock. s**t. I prayed he didn't find out what I was being so defensive about this way because that wasn't how I planned it to be. "What is wrong Rachel?" He asked with a worried look painted on his face. "It is nothing, I am just not ready to come back to the palace," I murmured unconvincingly, looking everywhere but his face. I knew it was too late because Alpha Robert could read people that lied to him better than any other person I know. I might be a manipulator, and he bought it most of the time but not when I was nervous about something. "Tell me what the f**k is going on or I will find it out by myself." He frowned, placing his hands on my shoulders which only threatened me more rather than comforting me. "Paula is back." I shut my eyes close, saying that out of intimidation. I regretted the words as soon as they spilled out of my mouth, and wished I could take them back with every bit of my being. "What did you just say to me, Paula?" He staggered back, even more, his lower jaw slacking down and his brows furrowing. He looked at me, then tilted his neck to his bed, then he staggered back again. He looked like he just received news of betrayal, and I was terrified of what Alpha Robert would do to me. "I am sorry," my eyes stung with tears as I crossed my arms over my chest to avoid any possible attacks that were coming my way. "I should have told you the minute she stepped foot into the pack." "Son a b***h!" He cursed as he whirled his heels and ran his fingers through his hair. Tears started to leak out of my eyes. "So she was here for a long time and you didn't tell me? I am going to f*****g kill you and your back-stabbing w***e of a sister." He growled as he charged toward me. I put up a hand to shield myself from what was coming next, but it never came. Instead, I felt myself being gently pushed away from the door and the Alpha rushing out aggressively. My chest was filled with terror as I realized what Alpha Robert was going to do. I had an even much bigger problem at hand because he was not planning to hurt me, he wanted to do that to my sister and there was no way that I would allow him to do that. I let out a shaky breath and gathered my thoughts before I ran as fast as I could to catch up to him before this turned into the disaster I've been wanting to avoid in the first place.
