Chapter 2
Present time
Life as a human in Elysium or more accurately the Vampire kingdom is a strange life, but no one even questions it anymore as it has been so many generations that we have been here now. Most people are just grateful that we are no longer treated as slaves.
We are probably on a par with omega’s, just with fewer opportunities in our life. The choices of what to do with our life is to serve the vampires in one way or another. Whether that is through cooking, cleaning, farming crops, or being a feeder.
Being a feeder is probably the best paid job we can hope for, the higher the position the vampire the better pay, and you have to work for a lot less hours than you would do in any other job. My parents are feeders for the royals, so we probably have the best housing and luxuries than any other human here.
The occasional human does get mated to some supernaturals, mainly witches or vampires. They are often rejected by the witches or wizards as we are seen as weak. The vampires tend to accept humans more readily as when they mate and mark them, they are turned into a vampire and get equal powers to their beloved.
It was expected of me in our village that I would carry on from my parents and become the feeder of Prince Louis, that has never been in my or my parents plans, and the Queen and King have encouraged me to follow a different path as well.
Every human village in the kingdom has a healer and a keeper of history. Myself and one other in our village has been tutored by our healer so one of us can take over from him when the time comes. I have shown a talent for potions and learning.
Most of my time is spent researching or playing with different plants and elements to see what I can create. It really fascinates me how the right mix of ingredients can make something that can cure or kill someone.
I also love listening to our history keeper Frances, especially when he is telling me about our time on earth and the history of the gods. I just love learning, the past is really interesting, but I often wonder why we are happy being here when things are so much worse for us here, and the most we can hope to achieve is to have a powerful vampire suck our blood from us.
I am not saying earth was perfect, far from it. From what I have heard, there was just as much of a class system and prejudice there. With many people struggling or getting killed because of their differences, whether that is their skin colours, religious beliefs, or sexuality.
At least in Elysium, no one cares about skin colours, who you want to fu.ck, and the gods and who believes in each one is understood and accepted. So there are some bonuses, and there is no longer war and killing of humans and supernaturals out of fear.
The gods is a whole bigger story. On earth in the early days, there were so many different gods and goddesses. In each culture, they had their own versions, although many of them overlapped, and I often wondered if it was a case of the same god different name. Then, as people had new beliefs, it got trimmed down greatly as there came the dominant religions.
When Christianity took hold, they took out the old beliefs and tried to completely take over it and base their new religious holidays on the old ones to try and build the religion as the dominating one. God looked like Zeus, Jesus was born in December instead of the spring, a great way to take out a holiday, and he was white. I'm not sure how that happened as there were no white people around that area at the time, but hey, everyone is fine to have their own beliefs.
Even having the dominant religion being Christianity that still did not stop the fighting, no, it never stopped. In Christianity, we have catholics and protestants. Now we have the same God, but still, the fighting was bloody as each one tried to kill the other over their beliefs. This was in earlier earth history, then in the more modern times still different religious fought each other and believed their beliefs were the correct one, when there was more than enough room for each person to have their own beliefs.
Here in Elysium, each race has their own God, and they are the ones who created this world to help bring a stop to their species from killing each other off. The gods gained more power as more believed in them and others withered away as fewer people believed in them.
In Elysium, the moon goddess Selene is the strongest as every race believes in and worships her. I mean, she gives the perfect people for them to each other. The Lycan’s also worship Fenrir, as he is believed to be the first lycan. The Fae worship the Celtic Goddess Danu. The Dragons worship the Greek God Python, the witches Hecate, and the Vampires worship Absalon, the first Vampire.
Us humans have adopted the Celtic Goddess Freya, as our life is simple as they were back in those days. The warrior Goddess blesses our crops and helps to keep us fertile. When we as humans meet the one that we want to live our life with, we call on her to bless our union in a simple hand fasting ceremony. It’s not like we can mark each other like the supernaturals do. A human biting another human would just be strange.
So that’s a brief history of who we worship and how we ended up in this place. I am sure a lot of it has been simplified as it has been passed on through the generations to make us feel thankful for what we have now and make it all more palatable. I mean, who wants to hear that we would have been better off if we had stayed on earth when we were stuck here and there is nothing we can do about it. And why confuse the kids with multiple religion's and gods when we can make nice stories for them. Most of my extra information has been through research. As far as most are concerned, we are here so we can be protected, and most are happy with that.
Here there is no hell, no one believes in the gods of the underworld, there is no Hades or Lucifer. If we are good when we die, then we go back to the arms of our gods and goddesses. If we are evil, we just cease to exist. Or at least that is what most people believe.
It does make me wonder if we have these gods here with us as the humans no longer worshipped them, is there any other who came along for the ride and if our beliefs changed would they become more powerful and able to influence things here.
Unfortunately, no one wants to hear these things, and it is a very unpopular view to have. So, I don’t think that I will be taking over as the local history keeper anytime soon or at all. We are not to question what is told to us and look at other theories. We simply have to sit back, shut up, and believe and learn the pretty tales told to us.
Heaven forbid we have our own mind and question the world around us, that would cause chaos, and that is why Francis always warns me not to discuss this in front of anyone other than him. We have gods, they are good, and none of the dark gods are here.
Each species have rogues and bad people in them. Who do they worship as it definitely is not the good gods we are taught about. Or do they not worship and believe in anything, and that is why they behave the way they do.
I think it is slightly naive to think that way and it will only open us up to dangers that we can not fight against if they do have their own beliefs and are given power to themselves and their gods, by pretending that they have no beliefs we are opening ourselves up to an unknown danger.
I suppose it is best to keep my opinions to myself as otherwise I would probably be locked up in the dungeons until I stopped upsetting the masses and conformed to the universal thinking. It would be disastrous if I corrupted other young minds.
I suppose I should look at the positives. At least I will not have to be a human blood bag for the ones who rule over us. My parents have always encouraged my curious mind and don’t censor me at home, and I may get to become a healer if I can keep up my learning. I guess it is better than some others who have no choices in their lives and just have to follow on with their families' choices or the few opportunities available to them.
