In It For The Long Run

Chloe's POV " Who's house is this?" I asked Damien as we got inside a magnificent house on the beach. I could be mistaken, but I think that this might be a private beach. I hadn't seen a beach in years; I could smell the sea from the house. It was refreshing, the air was pristine and clean, and the weather was much warmer on this side. " It's my family's holiday home, one of them at least," He said and put the bags on the floor. He still hasn't told me why I needed to come here, I have my suspicions, but until I know for sure why, I will reserve my judgment. I won't lie; that call from Derrick shook me up; he is determined to ruin my life if I don't go back to him; if he found out that I am carrying his child, he might just escalate things. I have always wanted to be a mother. I thought that I would have a family with Derrick, but in the last couple of years, he made me feel like not having any children, which is why I didn't stop taking my pill. Every time he spoke about having children, I would always change the subject or tell him that I wasn't ready. I loved Derrick so much, but every time he put his hands on me, he took a piece of that love away from me. I won't lie. Maybe a part of me will always love him. This man was my first of everything. I have never been with anyone else but him and for the first time in a long time, I could see myself falling for someone else, but I am afraid that I might be falling for the wrong man. " I'll give you the tour later. For now, we have the house to ourselves," he said to me. " Good, now can we talk?" I said to him. " Sure, I can't stall this any longer, can I?" he said to me. " No, you can't. Why would you want to stall this?" I asked him. " Because I am afraid that you won't look at me the same, that you will not want to be with me anymore," he said to me. " Damien, you said that you had feelings for me; I told you everything about myself; we all have a past; I won't judge you too harshly about yours," I said to him. " Tell you what, give me a week; let's forget about everything else and focus on us; give me a week to show you the kind of man I am, and this time next week, I will tell you everything about me, about my family," he said to me. " Damien, you can't expect me to bury my head in the sand like I didn't see the things that happened, but... I am not going to force you to tell me. A week, you said," I said to him. " Yes, a week," he said with a smile and kissed me. " You're so beautiful," he said with a smile. " You're not too bad either," I said and laughed at him. " How are you feeling?" he asked me. " Fine, I guess, just a bit tired," I said to him. " How about you lie down for a little while, I'm going out of the house for a few hours," he said to me. " You are going to leave me all by myself in this big house?" I asked him. " Don't worry, you will be fine. This house is a fortress, and I have about ten guys to make sure that you're protected," he said to me. " Ten guys? Isn't that a bit extreme?" I said to him. " I'll do anything to keep you safe," he said to me. He was so intense when he said that. " Fine, I'll take a nap upstairs," I said to him. " There's a bedroom upstairs, first door on your right, we will use that one," he said to me. " Alright then, I'll see you in a bit," I said to him and went upstairs. I went inside and lay on the bed. Today has been eventful; in the eight hours, I found out that Damien has his memories back, that he had a twin brother, I met his mother, and now we are here in this beautiful beach house in the Hamptons. I think that Damien was right. Just for this week, I need to focus on getting to know this man better, focusing on me. Here I can be free. There is no way Derrick is going to find me here, more now because he doesn't even have a way to talk to me. I still can't believe that he is willing to frame me to get what he wants. I am pregnant; I am growing a whole human being in my body; the sad part about this is that I haven't even had time to celebrate my pregnancy. I slept for a couple of hours when I woke up, I found a beautiful long sleeved flowy dress on the bed, and a note next to it. " Dinner at seven?" the note said. I looked at the time, and it was already half past six. I had a quick shower. When I was done, I walked out of the bedroom and saw a pathway made of rose petals. I smiled a little, I followed the path through the living room, I opened the door, and the path led me to the beach. There was a gazebo; I saw a table with lanterns burning on it; Damien stood up as soon as he saw me coming. " What's this?" I said with a smile. " Dinner, we haven't been out on a date, and since your face is still plastered all over, I thought that we could have some dinner under the stars, " he said and gave me roses. " These are so beautiful," I said to him. He pulled out a chair for me, and I sat down. I saw wine on the table. " It's alcohol-free, " he said with a smile. " You know that you don't have to drink this, right?" I said to him. " I know, I want to," he said to me. I can't remember the last time my husband and I went out together or a time he would do something sweet just because he wanted to and not because he was apologizing for something he did to me. " I have something for you," he said and gave me a shopping bag. " A gift? God, you're so sweet," I said and took out the contents. It was a new phone. " I figured that you would need a phone, don't worry, the phone can't be tracked," he said to me. " Thank you," I said with a smile. " Actually, I was kind of hoping that you could use the phone to get some part of your life back; you can't live in hiding forever," he said to me. " Yes, I can't, but Derrick hasn't taken down the reward yet. People are still looking for me," I said to him. " Yes, I know how to solve that, all we have to do is make a recording of yourself, stating that you are not lost, nor held against your will, you will make it clear that you are separated from your husband and that you just need some time alone," he said to me. " Damien, I think that would only make him even more angrier, I don't want to provoke him," I said to him. " I'll kill him. If he touches a hair on your head, he is a dead man!" he said with a serious face. I could say that he was bluffing, but I suspect that he wasn't. " You know what? I don't want to talk about my ex," I said to him. " Good, coz I don't like that guy," he said to me. We had our dinner, the conversation was flowing, and then he took a call, and I decided to make one of my own. I dialed Tessa's numbers. She answered on the first ring. " Tess, it's me," I said to her. " Thank God you're fine, I thought he found you," She said to me. I haven't told her about Damien. Now that things are moving forward, I think it's time to get her updated. " He won't find me, not here," I said to her. " Where? Are you not in the cabin?" she asked me. " No, I am in the Hamptons with Damien," I said to her. " Damien? Who's Damien, and why are you in the Hamptons and not at the cabin?" he asked me. " Let's just say that Santa brought a man to the cabin, and he was hurt, I wanted to tell you about him, but then I realized how stupid I was for trusting a stranger, I didn't want you to judge me, so I didn't tell you," I said to her. " I would never judge you, but friend, why would you leave with a stranger?" she asked me. " It is all so complicated, but I'll tell you about it when I see you," I said to her. " So this guy... is there something going on between you two?" she asked me. " I think so, I mean, I like the guy, like a lot," I said to her. " Does he know about Derrick?" she asked me. " Yes, I told him everything, even about the baby. Tessa, he is so sweet, you're going to like him," I said to her. " You're my best friend, and I love you, but don't you think that all of this is too soon? You just got out of a bad relationship, and you're hardly even divorced, I'm sorry, but I don't support this new guy, I am sure he is a great guy, but you have a lot to deal with. A relationship should be the last thing on your mind right now," she said to me. " Tessa, I don't need a lawyer in this, right now, I just need you to be my friend, to understand that I am finally beginning to feel some sort of happiness, after all that man has done to me, don't you think that I deserve to put myself first, to acknowledge that my feelings matter too?" I said to her. " You're right, I am sorry. I just don't want to see you get hurt again, I don't want to lose my best friend again," she said to me. I get it. When I married Derrick, things changed a lot between us, to the point where we stopped talking altogether. I don't want that to happen again, either. " Tess, you will always be my best friend, and I will never let another man come between us again," I said to her. " I hope not, so this new guy, at least tell me that he is cute," she said to me. " He is a dream. He is going to help me with this whole thing with Derrick," I said to her. " I am not sure if that is a good idea to involve him in this. Derrick is dangerous. Let me deal with the divorce first, okay?" she said to me. " I don't think I can stop Damien even if I tried," I said to her. " Let's hope that you can because this might just end up badly for everyone," she said to me.
