Axel pov
He looked at his friend that he had known for over twelve years and honestly he looked at him differently now. The man he knew and talked to often was a good upstanding man. While his own morals could be called into question at times, one thing never was. You didn’t waver when it came to family.
“You really didn’t help with your mothers care at all?” He asked looking at Oliver. Oliver had the decency to look ashamed,
“I couldn’t stand seeing my mother like that.” That angered him further,
“But Briar could?” He shot back. “You definitely aren’t the man I thought you were.”
“And who the f**k are you? Some dirty biker?!” One of the staties shouted getting in his face. Axel was pissed but he kept his cool as it was one of his sweetness brothers.
“You know I have killed men for less, but since you are my women’s family I’ll let this slide.” He said in a cool voice and that seemed to anger everyone except Grim.
“She’s mine!” Magnet yelled.
“I’m a state police officer!” The same brother yelled.
“In Tennessee maybe, this is Missouri; you are far out of your jurisdiction pup. So I suggest how you watch how you speak to me,” Axel told the kid who was still in his face. Oliver had the sense to pull him back and Axel turned to Magnet.
“And you! I already kicked your ass once tonight, don’t make me do it again.”
The meeting at the bar ended with Axel beating the f**k out of Briar’s ex-fiancé, which is why his face was bashed up. The kid only managed to get the first hit in on his cheek and then he took a few hits when his brothers from the MC saved him. p***y.
“Who is that guy?” The man in a sheriff’s uniform asked. His eyes focused on Magnet. While he wanted to have a flippant attitude with the sheriff, he knew immediately that he was dangerous. It was all in the eyes, those were cold.
“I’m Briar’s fiancé!” Magnet shouted.
“What?” Her brothers shouted.
“How could she not tell us?” One of the staties asked. Axel looked at the identical twins and quickly scanned for differences. The i***t that got in his face had a scar on his upper eyebrow. He gave him the nickname boot.
“Ex-fiancé!” He interrupted, “cheating on her with your club girls tends to do that. Oh and causing her to miscarry.” Axel delivered the information smugly. Her brothers started to get angry again raising their voices.
Then he was suddenly hit with a blast of cold water in the face. Axel sputtered trying to figure out what was going on. He was shocked anyone managed to get the drop on him. That had never happened before.
“Get off my porch!” Briar screamed. “Quick talking about my business for the whole neighborhood to hear!” Axel was finally able to see Briar spraying all the men on her front lawn with a garden hose. Reaper and Trenches were in the back just laughing. Bastards. The rest of us were trying to save our noses from getting water in them.
“Briar! Come on! Stop!” One brother yelled.
“Dad told you that you couldn’t do this anymore!” Oliver yelled out.
“Leave!” She screamed and then as quickly as she turned the hose on, she turned it off and walked back inside. Axel stared at the door she walked out of, as he was soaking wet. Yup he was definitely in love.
Briar pov
Blair walked into her place of work on Monday morning with a blue blouse and a black pencil skirt. She was in a good mood as she tried on her pre baby clothes this morning and found that she was able to finally pull them off. Though she bet old man Johnson would still give her a body shaming remark. Fat old bastard. She loved her boss, who was the only female junior partner at the firm.
“So I hear you had a crazy weekend,” her boss pounced on her the second she sat down. Ugh! Small towns are not all they are cracked up to be. It meant you could not have a personal life without everyone finding out about it. Briar looked up to find her boss/friend Ashley McNamara standing at the doorway of her office with a smirk on her face.
“I pleade the fifth,” Briar responded and got herself settled into her desk. Ash cackled with glee. Thankfully that was the only comment Ashley, her thirty- six year old boss made about the incident.
“All right tell me about my schedule for today and then the week.” Ashley transitioned and Briar quickly told her the schedule for the day and then the week.
…
It was lunch and Briar decided to go out for lunch as several people had stopped by asking her questions about this weekend. Whether it was about her brothers or if she hooked up with Axel Hart. She needed a break, even if it was just going out to get some fast food for lunch.
She was heading to her car when she saw her brother Oliver heading her way followed closely by the others. Ugh! Not now, she could not deal with this. Briar quickly changed directions only to run straight into Axel.
“Hey sweetness, happy to see me?” He asked with that arrogant grin she loved to hate.
“Nope, but let’s go anyway,” she responded and tugged on his arm.
“We running from your brothers?” Axel asked apparently catching on.
“It seems you are quick on the uptake, let’s go,” she responded as he led her to his bike. He got on a different bike than last weekend. Briar hitched up her skirt, ignored his wolf-whistle, and hopped on. She was thankful for choosing ballet flats instead of heels today, she definitely would have looked like a hooker. Axel fired up his bike and took off just as her brothers caught up. Briar smiled and flipped them the bird as they flew out of the parking lot. That act alone gave her intense satisfaction. However; the reality was now that she was once again on the bike of the head of a motorcycle club. An act she swore she would never do again. This road led to heartbreak, the men who rode in MC’s weren’t looking for monogamy.
Axel drove them to a little hole in the wall Mexican joint a few blocks away. Briar thought about walking back to the law firm, but she really wanted some queso. She walked into the restaurant with Axel close behind her. He kept trying to touch her on the small of her back, but she brushed him off. The man was definitely persistent, she had to give him credit.
While they were waiting Briar couldn’t help but notice their height disparities. He towered over her small frame.
“Table for two por favor,” Axel stated in what sounded like a decent Spanish accent. She was terrible in foreign languages, so he could have spoken it bad. The waiter led the two of them to a booth and Briar sat down.
“Look at us, it’s our first date sweetness,” Axel smiled while sitting down. Briar ignored him and focused on the waiter.
“Drinks?” The waiter asked.
“Water please and queso.” The waiter nodded.
“Same.” The waiter nodded and left.
“This is not our first date,” she hissed when alone and pretended to read through the menu. She always gets the same thing at the Mexican restaurant, cheese steak.
“Oh that’s right, Saturday night definitely was our first date.” Briar looked up and saw him leering at her. Ugh, men. The waiter came back with water and her queso.
“Are you ready to order?”
“Can I have the cheese steak please?” Briar smiled up at the waiter who nodded returning her smile.
“Cheese steak, and you sir?” The man nodded.
“Chori pollo,” Axel stated gruffly. The waiter took the menu and Briar thanked him.
“Don’t you want to know how I found out where you worked sweetness?” Axel asked in the awkward silence that followed.
“Not particularly,” Briar returned with a smile. She was happy eating her chips and queso acting like he didn’t exist. Her phone dinged and she pulled it out checking to see if it was from her boss.
“You know it’s considered rude to text on a date,” Axel commented while crunching on a chip.
“Just because you say it’s a date over and over will not suddenly make it one,” she responded as she responded to her bosses text. Ashley needed her to confirm something before court that afternoon. Briar quickly responded affirmative and looked up to see Axel’s eyes trained on her. This was going to be a long lunch.
..
Mercifully the food came quickly and Briar ate her cheese steak like her life depended on it. It wasn’t just because she was hungry, she wanted to escape Axel’s probing gaze. She double checked the time as she only had about twenty minutes before she had to get back to work.
“It’s good to see girls like you don’t eat salad,” Axel commented. That stopped her appetite.
“Excuse me?” Briar questioned her hackles up.
“Oh never mind,” he responded clearly gauging her reaction and continued eating. Briar’s appetite was gone and she quickly dug into her purse and pulled out a twenty.
“Where you going sweetness?” Axel asked confused.
“Stop calling me that!” Briar huffed out trying to be respectful in the restaurant setting. She walked out of the restaurant and away from the man who wouldn’t stop hounding her.
