“Great, just great. I offended Olivia’s family now I’m never going to be invited back here,” Rose thought as she walked outside and ordered an Uber.
“Rose wait!” Olivia yelled. Rose turned around to see olivia and Mrs. Romano coming after her.
“It’s ok, I’m just ordering an Uber,” Rose said looking at her phone. “Well trying to,” she muttered. Olivia pulled the phone out of her hand,
“Stop ok, you did nothing wrong. Grandma did.” Rose looked at Mrs. Romano,
“Is she always like that?” Mrs. Romano tried to smile, but failed.
“I’m used to it.”
“It’s not right, it bothers Kane too.” Rose said. Mrs. Romano nodded,
“I know, but family is so important to Joe so I just dealt with it for his sake.” Olivia was pissed,
“You shouldn’t have had to, I only came back this weekend so you didn’t have to deal with it alone.”
“You won’t have to anymore,” a voice behind them said. All three girls whipped around and saw Joe standing there.
“Joe, I didn’t mean-“ Joe put up his hand and came to his wife,
“No your not the one at fault, it’s me. I shouldn’t have made you put up with my family for so long, I thought if they just saw how much I loved you. If they saw you treated Livy as your own daughter they’d accept you,” he sighed heavily. “I was wrong.” Rose tried to back away from the touching family scene. She bumped into something, she whipped around and bumped into Kane.
“Sorry!” She whispered yelled.
“No thank you, my mom has taken that crap for years,” Kane said. Rose looked at Kane about to say something.
“I mean you too Rose,” Joe said which caught her attention.
“What?” Joe laughed,
“I want you three to go out shopping while I take care of my family.” Rose nodded but inside she groaned. Shopping, she hated shopping. It’s not the shopping she hated, it was that the clothing stores generally only had sizes up to a size twelve. There were the few plus size sections but they just did not look right on my body.
“Can’t wait,” Roselyn said with the best fake smile she could muster. Olivia grabbed her hand and went to Mrs Romano’s SUV.
Kane pov
Kane was confused by the girls response to shopping. Don’t all girls like free stuff? Kane pondered the quandary long after the girls had left. Kane never did understand woman. He didn’t do relationships, he just f.ucked a chick and then left. Kane knew he was an assh.ole, he freely admitted it. Kane had two soft spots; one was for his mom and the second was for Olivia. He didn’t want to admit it but there may be a third one for Olivia’s roommate. Damn he still couldn’t remember her name.
Kane was currently sitting on the stairs listening to Joe yelling at his family. Since his father died Joe became the family patriarch.
Was it wrong that Kane was enjoying this shouting match so much? Probably, but he really didn’t care. Assh.ole remember?
“No mother I have let you control my life since I was born. I married the woman you picked, she cheated on me and walked out. I haven’t since or heard from her since. I met and fell in love with Maria. That woman is an angel. She loves me and my daughter like her own. The only thing you have against her is the fact that she is Irish? I’ve had enough, I foolishly believed you would come around. All of you, I want you out of my house. Do not come back.” Joe came out of the dining room red faced.
“Let’s go hit something.” Kane got up and followed him to the garage.
The ride to the gym was silent, Kane didn’t mind. He didn’t know what to say, Kane wasn’t well know for small talk. When they got to the gym Joe went to to go change. Kane didn’t bother as he was still wearing gym shorts and a wife beater.
Kane wrapped his hands tightly and started to stretch. Kane didn’t do too much, but judging by how keyed up Joe was in the car it was going to be an intense work out. Joe came out and started with a light warm up. Joe did some stretching, mainly in his arms and shoulders. Then they went to the bag. Kane held it steady for him as Joe started punching away.
Joe was in his fifties, but he was still in great shape. He could probably knock Kane on his ass. Joe was going strong when he started muttering.
“F.ucking pay for everything. Do everything. Disrespectful.” They were both sweating, and grunting. But for men like them it was a form of therapy.
Roselyn’s pov
Roselyn was in hell. This was the fifth store she had been dragged to, and surprise surprise she hadn’t found a thing. In all honesty she stopped looking after the second store. Rose just pretended to look while the Olivia and Mrs. Romano shopped and tried on clothes. They were getting ready to go into another shop when Rose finally said something.
“I need to go to the bathroom.” The couple stopped,
“Oh I’ll go with you.” Olivia said, but Rose just waved her off. Rose went looking for the closest bathroom, and decided to camp out in the bathroom. She laughed at herself, seems like things weren’t all that different from high school after all. She was hiding out in the bathroom. Rose spent an hour playing with her phone before some one came into the the next stall stinking it up. She decided to get out and go visit the cookie stand she saw along the way.
Rose bought a couple of cookies and was doing some window shopping when she got a text from Olivia.
O: we are ready to go, where are u?
Me: hot topic u?
O: forever 21, hurry up
Rose sighed and started looking for Forever 21. Rose must of missed Olivia and Mrs. Romano because she circled the mall before they finally ran into each other. Mrs. Romano noticed her lack of bags.
“You didn’t buy anything?” Rose looked away,
“No, I didn’t see anything I wanted it.” That was a big fat lie, more like she didn’t see anything that would fit her. Mrs. Romano saw through that too.
“Okay, well we still owe you for a shopping day. I won’t forget it, next weekend.”
‘Please no,’ she thought to herself. Rose only nodded, and the girls headed towards the exit.
The ride back was quite, for Rose anyway. The mother, daughter duo in the front chatted away about the clothes they found in the mall. Roselyn couldn’t help but find herself a bit jealous of their relationship. The relationship between her mother was one of cold detachment. Roselyn was just ready for this day to be over, she liked her roommate. But this was going to be the last Sunday dinner invitation she accepted for a long time.
