They rode to school on Reynolds' bicycle, Avira couldn't help but notice the way he was looking at her.
She had known Reynolds since when they gained admission into the high school through scholarship, and she noticed that he had been a good friend to her.
But they came from different backgrounds - Reynolds was from a poor family, while Avira's family struggled to make ends meet.
Meanwhile, Ben, one of the rich guy in school, also had a crush on Avira. He admired her beauty and intelligence, but he didn't know how to express his feelings.
He watched from afar as Avira and Reynolds rode to school together, chatting and laughing,he was jealous..
As they arrived at school, Reynolds helped Avira off the bicycle and smiled at her.
"I'll see you in class, my angel."
"Thanks, Reynolds see you later."Avira said before she left.
Avira smiled back and headed to her class for today's lectures, but she didn't aware of the two boys who had crushes on her.
Reynolds watched Avira as she went to the class, his heart filled with hope,maybe someday, he'd find the courage to tell her how he felt.
Ben gazed at Avira in class, his eyes fixed on her bright smile. He waved at her, trying to catch her attention, but she only smiled back and returned to her notes.
Avira doesn't want to associate herself with any of those rich kids because they are always bullying those admitted into the school through scholarships.
"I really love her,l must try by all means to get her,she must be mine."he whispered to himself and smile.
The teacher, Mrs. Johnson, walked in and began her lecture on literature. Avira listened intently because Literature in English is one of her favorite subjects, her eyes sparkling with interest.
When Mrs. Johnson asked questions after the lecture, Avira's hand shot up, and she answered perfectly, impressing everyone in the class, include her teacher.
Ben was impressed by Avira's intelligence and confidence. He had never seen anyone answer questions with such ease and confident..
He found himself feeling more impressed by her, his crush growing stronger by the minute.
As the class ended, Ben gathered his things, trying to courage himself to approach Avira.
But Reynolds was already by her side, chatting with her and making her laugh. Ben felt jealousy of Reynolds and decided to wait for another opportunity to talk to her.
Avira, too, was happy with her performance today. She packed her bags and left the classroom with Reynolds, feeling happy and content after a great class discussion.
Avira didn't know that, she had just caught the attention of two boys in her class, each with their own secrets and feelings.
"Avira, let's go home."Reynolds proudly offered Avira a ride home on his bicycle.
"I'll drive you to your house on my beautiful bicycle."he said smiling and stretching his hand forward to show Avira the way.
"Sure, let's go home."Avira smiled and agreed.
Ben was watching from afar as Avira and Reynolds rode off together, he felt jealousy once again.
"I must overtake him and snatch this pretty and intelligent girl from him. I will oppress and frustrate him from this school," he murmured to himself and sped off.
As Ben drove away, he couldn't help but feels rivalry with Reynolds. He has made up his mind to win Avira's heart and prove himself as the better boyfriend for her.
Ben's determined to win her heart and outdo Reynolds was only just the beginning.
As they rode, Avira's mind flashed back to her mother's advice.
Sh enjoyed the ride home with Reynolds. She was happy for his friendship and support.
Reynolds stepped on the bicycle break to allow her alighted from the bicycle.
"Thanks for the ride, Reynolds," she said with a smile.
Reynolds smiled back. "Anytime, Avira. I'm always here for you."
"Thanks so much, Reynolds."Avira said.
"You welcome, bye.."he replied and left.
As they parted ways, Reynolds already missing Avira company.
She suddenly remembered her meeting with Ethan. "I will meet Ethan today as he promised. Maybe I'll get a good job that will make my mom happy," she whispered to herself before entering the gate.
Avira opened the gate, she expected to see her mother's warm smile waiting for her. But instead, she found an empty living room with a note on the table.
She picked up the note and read it, her eyes scanning the familiar handwriting.
"Mom's gone to work," she said to herself, feeling disappointment.
"Your food is in the kitchen. Try and do your chores and read your books. See you later."the note continue.
Avira nodded, understanding her mother's instructions. She knew her mother worked hard to provide for their family, and she has made up her mind to do her part.
"Okay, Mom," she whispered, as if her mother was still there.
"I'll do my chores and study hard."
"Don't worry."she said smiling.
She folded the note and put it back on the table, She headed to the kitchen to find her dinner, her stomach needs food.
She sat down and ate her food,, Avira thought about her day, replaying the events in her mind. She smiled, thinking about Reynolds and their ride home together. But then her mind turned to Ethan and the promise of a new job, and she was happy too.
After finishing her dinner, Avira began her chores, tidying up the living room and doing the dishes. She then settled down at the table, opening her books and starting her homework.
As she studied, she remembered that she has mathematics assignment too. She knew she had a lot to do, so she rushed inside and picked the textbook from her bag and started the homework immediately, but she knows that she will make her mother proud.
She continues reading her books, and she also checking the time because of her appointment with Ethan.
Or maybe I should not meet him. Her second thought too is telling her that they really need money to foot their bills too.
She pushed her mind away from the thought and continued reading her books.
