Bensons POV
“All right, everyone, I want you to pair off and NOT with the same person as yesterday. Challenge yourselves and partner with someone you fear. Remember the stances and the moves you have learnt throughout the year and use them. You want to pass this class; prove it!” I roared at the pack members that were scheduled to train today.
Our training sessions were split into different age groups, making it easier for us to train everyone. Training started the morning after a pup’s sixteenth birthday. You’re old enough to get your wolf; then you’re old enough to train, no exceptions. Tapping into their wolf was one of the first things they were taught. This is important when we need to increase our hearing, speed, and strength. All things that would be required for when they became enrolled into border control should they apply, or even if we were ever attacked. We would train in human form and then learn to train in wolf form once we had mastered the moves and techniques. This way had proven to show the best results and had been done ever since Jake’s dad John was Alpha.
Ranked members of the pack, however, were stronger than the other pack members. I am a Beta and could beat the wolves training with my eyes closed. As the pairs switched positions from attack to defence and vice versa, Crystal arrived an hour late... again.
“CRYSTAL!" I shouted, forcing out my beta tone, freezing her in her tracks. "Would you mind enlightening us as to why you feel it’s ok to turn up when and as you please? Especially when every other person here was able to arrive on time.”
“Sorry, Beta, I was with my boyfriend and didn’t realise the time.” She answered back in her annoyingly squeaky voice, causing my eyes to roll and those of the other members training. Crystal had a different guy every two weeks and was slowly making her way through the pack. Her father was a good guy and one of the oldest on border control and heading for promotion. He certainly didn’t need Crystal’s reputation f*****g things up for him.
“And who may that be, Crystal, because I’d sure like to remind them it’s NOT OK for you to miss mandatory training. You are NOT special, and you sure as hell do NOT show this level of disrespect to your ranked! DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME!” Crystal nodded in response, her eyes flitting to her feet as she made her way to her mat.
As I turned my back on her and headed to the front of the room, Jake entered to oversee how things were going. There was only a week left until their final exam, and Jake liked to see if they were ready. The problem was that the moment he entered, the trainees stiffened. Jake’s alpha aura was rolling off him in waves putting everyone on edge.
“Hey, baby!” A shriek came from behind me, but before I could turn to see whom it came from, Crystal appeared and threw herself at Jake.
‘Desperate much, this ought to be good.’ Rocky, my wolf, chuckled as he watched the encounter, knowing exactly how it would end.
Jake just looked at her with pure disgust grabbing her by the wrist and slamming her into the wall with such force that I swear it had cracked. Had Crystal been human, she would be lucky to walk away with just a few broken bones.
“Listen carefully because I'm only going to say this once. I’M NOT YOUR f*****g BABY! You were just an easy lay that was available when I needed to de-stress. Now you will show me some f*****g RESPECT! And for future reference, it’s Alpha to you.”
“Easy! The only person I want is you. Can’t you see that?” Tears shone in her eyes as her body began to shake.
“Well, I don’t want you, so leave me the f**k alone.” Jake shoved her back against the wall and stomped off, leaving Crystal a snivelling mess on the floor.
‘Well seems as if he’s in a mood again today; good luck.’ Rocky was a sarcastic wolf, and one day I’m sure he would be the death of me.
Jakes POV
After Crystal tried to put a claim on me, I lost it. I didn’t want her or anyone else putting a claim on me.
‘What about when we find our mate? I won’t allow you to reject her. We need her, and so does this pack. We both have our roles. You know this; we learned it during your alpha training.’ Great, now Hunter is on my case.
‘We don’t need a mate; Lunas are often targeted to weaken us. Don’t you remember what happened to the Royal Pack?’
‘Of course, I remember all wolves, including those in the Moon Realm, felt the loss.’
“There you go then, losing his Luna made the Alpha King weak and look what happened to him. He was the strongest wolf to exist, and losing his mate made him as good as dead. Now the Royal Pack is run by an ex-Beta who calls himself King, with a bunch of good-for-nothing rogues taking on titles of ranked members. No one knows what happened to the Princess; she’s been missing for sixteen or something years if I remember rightly.’ I scrunched my fist as I became irritated; this was the same unwanted conversation we always seemed to have.
Hunter finally went quiet, which was good because now I had a f*****g headache. I was about to go for a run to the waterfall, the only place that ever made me feel remotely at peace, when there was a knock at my office door.
“Come in!” I shouted, wanting to get whatever s**t this was dealt with and get out of here.
“What the f**k was that loving display with Crystal all about? I know she can be annoying, but damn, chucking her into a wall. Not cool, man.”
“Ah, man, don’t start. I’m so irritable all the time lately, and don’t forget f*****g horny. If this is how a she-wolf feels in heat, then I don't know how they do it.”
“HAHAHA, you already know what I’m going to tell you. It’s because you’re going to meet your mate, and I'm guessing it will be soon with how foul your temper is.”
“Don’t start this again, Benson!” I groaned, not wanting to get into the same s**t again. First Hunter, and now Benson. What was it with everyone?
“Come on, Jake! You know what I was like before I met Alice, and as soon as we finished the mating process, all the s**t that had me irritated disappeared.”
“Yeah, yeah, well, if I do find my mate, it won’t change anything. You know how I feel about having one.” It’s said that a Luna is vital for an Alpha; they help us look after the pack members in a way the Alpha can’t. However, when I think about how my pack is, I believe it’s okay, and whether or not a Luna arrives, I don’t think it will change anything. Other than give me a weak spot.
“Yeah, I do, but believe me, Jake, when you do find the poor woman fated to you, you won’t be able to resist the mate bond. Especially since you’re an alpha, I'm willing to bet the bond’s pull will be much stronger, and you know it. No matter how much you choose to believe otherwise.”
“Oi! What do you mean by ‘poor woman'? Anyone would be lucky to have me.”
“Anyone mated to you will need all the luck the moon goddess can give her.” Trying my best not to laugh, I left Jake’s office before he could beat my ass and headed to my room, where Alice was waiting.
Alice’s POV
“What do you mean he’s going to try and resist the pull of the mate bond?” It confused me to know someone was willing to live without their mate. Your mate was a part of you, a part that we needed. They made us feel complete, special, and they loved us unconditionally. It was a bond unlike no other.
“You know what Jake is like, he doesn’t want to be seen as weak, and he thinks that having a mate will make him that way.”
“How could having his mate, Luna, by his side possibly weaken him?”
“Alice, I’ve tried to tell him, but he just uses what happened with the Royal Pack all of them years ago as an excuse. Honestly, I think he’s just scared and refuses to admit it. Let’s face it; he has never loved anyone more than himself. How many real girlfriends has he had? None, that’s how many. He calls Crystal a w***e, but he’s just as bad, if not worse.”
“Well, I don’t think we need to worry; we both know how strong the pull of the mate bond is. Look what happened to us. The moment I walked into the training hall, you floored me and tried to mark me there and then. Three guards tried to rip you off me and still failed. When you find what’s yours, it’s impossible to become separate.”
“Yes, we do, and yes, I did.” Benson replied, lust evident in his voice as a mischievous smile played on his lips.
I chuckled as Benson nuzzled into my neck, kissing the spot that carried his mark. As I looked up at him, a blush crept onto my face. I loved this man more than anything, and I’m so happy the Moon Goddess has mated me to him. Standing up off our bed, I grabbed Benson’s hand leading him to the bathroom.
“What are you doing” I ignored him, turning the bath on while adding some of my favourite bubble bath. It smelt like a Pina colada, a coconut and cocoa butter mixture. I turned to face Benson with a teasing smile on my face. Extending my claws on one hand, I ripped away his training vest.
“You stink.” I all but purred as I winked at him. Benson just gave me a playful growl, ripping my clothes from my body.
“Ahh, Benson, that top was new.” I scoffed while playfully hitting his shoulder.
“It looks better on the floor but don't worry. I suppose I could take you shopping and get you a new one.” With that, his soft, plump lips attacked my own. Sparks flew all over my skin, igniting my burning hunger for my mate.
