The rest of the school day was quite uneventful if you ask me. After Belle had shoved me out of her way this morning, I walked to my locker to get my things for class. The whole day proceeded as normal with the constant bullying from the so-called high class. Cameron and I were literally at the bottom of the social chain. However, popularity didn't matter to us because education was already our priority. Cameron and I were amongst the smartest in the school. We didn't try to compete against each other because it didn't make sense to. But we always did our best and shared our results with each other. Whilst he did business and technology subjects, I did science and arts. Hence the reason why I always walked around with my laptop and camera.
We only had each other since we started high school, and while the populars got all the praise for their looks and attitude from the student body, we were praised by teachers, our parents, and other schools for being academically excellent. And in my opinion, those people were above popular and that was only what we cared about. The student body can go to hell for all I care. One day I'll get into a good college and then university.
During my free period, the last one before school was finally over, I went to the Library with my laptop on which I continued to design a house plan on AutoCAD. Looking for the memory card to hook up on the laptop, my search turned out futile. I emptied the whole bag looking for it but came up with nothing. I began to panic, and my heartbeat increased. That card was the most important thing to me; my whole life basically and I could not afford to lose it. So, with that in mind, I ran to where Belle had bumped into me.
My search came up empty still, and I had begun to lose hope. Someone must have picked it up then. Now I had no chance of getting it back out of all the hundreds of people in this school. Slowly, lost in my thoughts, I walked back to the library and closed my stuff, and waited for the bell to ring. I had no feeling to design anything anymore.
It was after 4:00 and I strolled down the street to my house.
"Hey!" Someone called.
To my surprise, I turned back and saw Belle Wilkins jogging up to me.
"Hey...?" I said unsure of what was really going on. "Hi. You're Augustus, right?"
"It’s actually August. No ‘us’ at the end."
"Okay..." I rolled my eyes.
"What do you want?"
"I need to ask a favor from you."
With a raised eyebrow I asked, "And why would I help you with anything?"
"Well because I came and I talked to you... nicely. Other people would dream of me talking to them."
I stopped dead in my tracks and began laughing uncontrollably. It wasn't funny. I just did that to annoy her.
"Look Bella or whatever your name is..." I knew exactly what her name was. "I don't give a s**t if you came and talked to me. Hell, you just ruined my day with your presence. I don't know what makes you think you're so high and mighty that you being here presently is a privilege. Let me make it clear, I don't like you and I will never help you with anything."
With that, I turned my back and left but not before seeing the tears threatening to fall from her eyes.
Good. She deserves it anyways.
Belle POV (before she spoke to Augustus)
“Yes sir? You wanted to talk to me?" I said to the Principal.
"Yes, Belle. I've noticed that your grades are not good at all. You really need to improve on them or else you won’t get promoted and it is already the middle of the semester. Here are all the assignments you failed to submit and all those you failed period." he said as he handed me a whole binder.
"I don't know what happened to you, Belle. You used to be a good student with a bright future. Do these and bring them in at the end of the month."
I scanned the papers. They were a lot.
"But sir I can't complete these all by month-end!"
"Not my problem. You should've done them from the start. But if you want to, I can recommend that you ask August Carter to help you complete them. He's an A+ student."
"I don't even know who that is!" I exclaimed in annoyance.
“I’m sure you can find out. Have a good day miss Belle.” He said before leaving me alone in the room.
What am I going to do now?
I told Nicki everything that happened and she encouraged me to talk to him and helped me find him. To my complete surprise, August Carter was the nerd who bumped into me the other day and dropped his memory card. I wasn’t in favor of this at all.
“Look Belle, Augustus is a nerd. You’re the most popular girl in the school. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind.” Nicki told me.
“I guess you’re right.” And with that, I followed him until I caught up to him walking down the street.
~
“Today was the absolute worse!” I breathed out falling onto my soft bed.
“How did it go?” Nicki asked, barging into my room.
“Horrible! Can you believe that stupid nerd turned me down? Like who the hell does he think he is?”
“Okay calm down and tell me exactly what happened.” She said. And I told her. To my annoyance, she busted out laughing at me.
“It’s not funny you know,” I said pouting and folding my arms.
“Sure, it’s not.” She said sarcastically, finally finished laughing, “So what are you going to do? Surely you can’t make a nerd turn you down.”
“I don’t know what I should do though. He made it clear that he doesn’t want anything to do with me.”
“So? Be persistent! You always get what you want and I’m sure you’re not going to let this Augustus-”
“It’s August. No ‘us’.” I corrected her, earning a confused look from her.
“I don’t care what his name is. If you don’t raise your grades you will be held back and not be able to graduate with us. And I’m sure you don’t want that. So tomorrow you’re going to get up and try again, and you’re not going to stop until he agrees to help you!”
“Bu-”
“No buts!” she said causing me to pout. And with that, she just left me alone in the room with my thoughts.
