CHAPTER SEVEN

1070 Words
In all his years as the Alpha King of Blood-stone, Rune Hemming had never encountered a being with a werewolf and a human scent. Creatures like that were not supposed to exist. They were supposed to be an abomination, but yet one just stood in front of him a few hours ago. If someone had told him about it, he would have called the person crazy, but in this case, he saw her and perceived her scent himself. Did this mean that he was crazy? And he couldn't comprehend why he could perceive something else from her scent. Something so heavenly that made him want to dig his nose in her neck and inhale her scent forever. He let out a sigh. That was it. He had finally lost it. He was the Alpha King of Blood-stone for f**k's sake. He couldn't be having such lewd thoughts about a mere prisoner. A dangerous one at that. He also couldn't understand why she seemed so familiar, like he had met her years ago. He shook his head. That was impossible. If he met someone like her years ago, he would definitely remember. Rune zoned out, completely lost in thought that he forgot that he was supposed to be in a meeting with his betas. “Are we boring you, Your Majesty?” Knox, the Alpha King's right-hand beta said with a hint of amusement on his face, snapping the king out of his reverie. “I'm sorry, what?” Rune asked in total confusion. He had been lost in thought for several minutes and had no idea what his betas had been saying. “Ugh, your speech was so boring, Knox, you nearly put our King to sleep.” Asha, the king's left-hand beta chipped in, rolling her astonishingly bright green eyes. “Shut up, Asha. My speech wasn't boring.” Knox replied, glaring daggers with his baby blue eyes at the other beta and she glared right back. Rune sighed. “Alright, that's enough from you two.” His two betas were serious pains in his neck. Even though they were his second-in-commands and two of the most lethal warriors Blood-Stone had ever seen, they still acted and bickered like children. He couldn't get over how much they acted alike too. They could practically pass for siblings at this point and it didn't help that they were almost always together. “Alright, King,” Asha said, sarcastically. Rune was feared by everyone in Blood-Stone except the two betas. It was safe to say that he even feared them with how much they tormented the poor king. “Why did you really call us here?” She asked, tugging a few strands of her dark auburn hair behind her ears. Rune let out a sigh, sitting upright on his throne. “I'm sure you've heard of the human who crossed the border from Wardsville into Blood-Stone.” “Are you kidding? She is the talk of the city!” Knox exclaimed and Asha nodded in agreement. “When is she going to be executed?” Asha asked. “I have not decided yet. There's something strange about her. She has both human and werewolf scent.” Rune answered, and both his betas eyes were wide as saucers. “What?!” Knox exclaimed, his golden brown hair falling into his eyes and he pushed back the strands with his fingers. “You know that's not possible, Rune.” Asha’s eyebrows were raised in disbelief, and she crossed her arms around her chest, giving the king a strange look. “You think I would lie about this?” Rune fumed, eyes flashing. “You should go see her for yourself.” “But I don't understand. How can a human have a werewolf scent?” Knox asked, and his face looked more confused by the second. “According to her story, three werewolves crossed into Wardsville, killed her parents and bit her.” The Alpha King said, and the two betas exchanged unreadable glances. “Bit her?” Knox was truly flabbergasted at this point. Asha scoffed, and her eyebrows were still raised in disbelief. “A human cannot survive a werewolf bite.” “Well, she probably did, which would explain both scents.” Rune answered, pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration. “Surely you do not believe this c**k-and-bull story, Rune?” Asha asked, and it was obvious from her expression that she was getting annoyed. “I don't know what to believe right now, but I promise that I'll get to the bottom of it.” “But none of this makes sense. Why would werewolves invade Wardsville when you banned every one of us from entering the town?” Knox asked. “Maybe they were werewolves from other towns?” Asha chipped in unhelpfully. “It doesn't matter what they are. If I find out that werewolves indeed flaunted my orders and invaded the human town, I'll have their heads on a stake.” The Alpha King declared and, for the first time since the meeting, he was indeed serious. His eyes glowed slightly red, and he emitted only a ton of his powerful aura which brought his betas to their knees. “Yes, Your Majesty.” They replied and there was no hint of sarcasm this time and soon, the moment was over as soon as it began. The powerful aura was lowered and the Alpha and betas discussed like they did before. “So what happens now?” Knox asked, running his hands through his hair and Asha looked at the Alpha King expectantly. “You two will go to the left-wing of the royal chambers. That's where she's been locked up. Try if you can figure anything out about her and report back to me immediately.” “Yes, Your Majesty.” The two betas chorused in unison before making their way out of the throne room. The Alpha King sat alone in silence, still wondering why the female prisoner seemed so familiar and why his heart broke whenever he thought about her. He let out a sigh, shaking his head, which was heavy with the weight of the crown. What was he supposed to do about this human? Was she telling the truth or was she lying? If she was telling the truth, how on earth did she survive the deadly werewolf's bite?
