As the sun began to rise and the world around me slowly came to life, I found myself in need of a much-deserved break.I left the broken glasses , Jenny will find them later. It was still morning, and with no pressing obligations, I decided to indulge in a short nap. As the others woke up to have breakfast and freshen up ,I was snoring in my bed trying to fight the past out of my head.
The tranquility of the moment was soon disrupted, however, by the arrival of the mischievous twins.Just as I had started to drift off into a peaceful slumber, they bursted into my room, filled with boundless energy. They carelessly jumped onto my bed, their tiny feet stepping on me as they laughed and giggled. Startled awake, I groaned, "Can't a tired momma get a decent nap around here?"
"We're too excited to wait," Kensley replied, still bouncing around on the bed. "We want to open our gifts!"
"Gifts? But it's not Christmas yet!" I mumbled groggily, still trying to fully comprehend what they were talking about.
Kensley eagerly explained, "The gifts we received from Daddy's hotel!"
"Daddy's hotel?" I was puzzled, my sleep-addled mind struggling to process the information. I sat up, rubbing my eyes and attempting to grasp the situation. Slowly, the memory started to resurface. "Oh, yes. I remember now. But isn't it still too early? We agreed to open them later, didn't we?"
"It's already afternoon, Mommy," Zensley chimed in, settling down on my lap and looking directly into my eyes. Afternoon? how I feel like I have not slept even for an hour.
"My sweet boy," I murmured, affectionately brushing a lock of hair away from his face. "Have you both eaten your breakfast?"
"Yes, we had what Johnny packed from the hotel. He just heated the food," Kensley answered, pausing his bouncing to answer.
"And was it good?" I asked, slightly perplexed as to why the chef would only reheat leftovers instead of making a fresh meal.
"We couldn't waste good food, Mommy. I especially loved the sausages and waffles. I want to have them every day!" Zensley giggled from his perch on my lap.
My stomach growled in response, reminding me that I hadn't eaten anything yet." Your stomach is noisy mommy," Kensley laughed .
"Have you seen Mommy eat anything today?" I asked, my hunger increasingly evident.
" But you chose to sleep when we went for breakfast, there was a variety to choose from ,like a buffet!" Kensley Said, she could not stop jumping ,and I wanted to escape her presence, she is one jovial and nagging girl.
" I would like to chose from a buffet!" I said raise my eyebrows," Am starving ,I have not eaten anything yet!"
"Maybe just some wine. Aren't you hungry, or are you sad?" Kensley asked quizzically, her giggles continuing.
"Sad? Why would Mommy be sad?" I questioned, genuinely curious about the suggestion.
"Because Daddy is sick, and he's not here with us due to his illness," Kensley matter-of-factly replied.
A sense of heaviness washed over me as I absorbed the reality of Wesley's absence. My heart ached for him, and I felt the weight of not having him by our side for all these years. "Yes, Kensley, you're right," I agreed, my voice tinged with a hint of sadness. "But Daddy will come back to us when he gets better. We need to be careful not to expose him to anything that could hurt him while he's healing."
Zensley reassured me, his young voice carrying wisdom beyond his years. "Mommy, Daddy loves us very much, but right now, he needs to take care of himself. We can play with him later when he's feeling better."
His words brought me comfort and reminded me of the resilience he possessed at such a tender age. I smiled gratefully at him, grateful for the bond we had formed despite the challenges we faced.
If only they understood that I just met their father just yesterday and it may seem like obvious we are in love or like we belong to each other, but I do not know who Wesley Kane is, I don't know if he is a good or bad man? Am not sure about our compatibility. But I already fell in love with his deeds ,what about him? will I fall for him?
"Mommy, can we play hide and seek?" Kensley interrupted, her enthusiasm returning.
I chuckled softly, realizing that in the midst of all our worries, the simple joy of play still held power. "I thought you came to wake me to open our gifts," I replied, playfully teasing her.
For a moment, my mind drifted back to the weight that still burdened me - the mystery of my parents' unexplained actions, giving away one of my children without informing me. The thought gnawed at me, and I couldn't help but feel anger and sadness intertwine within me. However, I quickly refocused my attention on Zen, my precious son, and the love we shared. I wouldn't let any resentment or bitterness mar our time together.
I tenderly ruffled his thick, curly hair and encouraged him to go downstairs as i freshened up. I assured him that I would join them shortly after taking a quick shower. As I watched him bound up the stairs, my heart swelled with gratitude for the connection I had fostered with my children, even amidst the chaos and unanswered questions that surrounded us. It was a reminder that, no matter the circumstances, love and resilience would always find a way to prevail.I was a good mother even when I never thought he was mine, I treated him as Kensley's equal.
When I got downstairs,Jenny our Nanny was holding her gift. Johnny was in the kitchen warming my food , and probably it was food from the hotel.
" Hopefully, you are feeling okay!" Jenny was quick to ask.
" Are you hurt ,I found a broken wine glass outside under the tree!" She inquired.
" No, I was startled by a lizard,so I had to drop it ,",I lied!"
Jenny raised her eyebrow, clearly not fully convinced by my explanation. "A lizard? Really? That must have been quite the fright," she said skeptically.
I nodded, trying my best to appear convincing. "Yes, it was unexpected. I wasn't expecting to see one so close to the house. But don't worry, I'm fine. Just a little shaken up."
Jenny studied my face for a moment, her eyes filled with concern. "Well, if you're sure you're okay. Just be careful next time, alright?"
"I will, thanks, Jenny," I replied, relieved that she didn't push the subject further.I knew my words did not convince me ,am not that person who is scared by lizards, but I did not care, my lie worked.
As I headed towards the kitchen, I noticed Johnny setting up the table with my favorite dishes from the hotel. The aroma filled the room, making my stomach growl with anticipation.
"You're in for a treat today," Johnny said with a grin. "I managed to bring back some of their best dishes."
I smiled back, appreciating his effort. "Thank you, Johnny. I really appreciate it, the left overs are our meal for how many more days? ."
" Today and tomorrow, we have a variety of ready expensive meals, mine is only to warm and accompany them with defined garnishes!" He laughed ,giving my plate final touches.
Taking a seat at the table, I tried to put my earlier encounter out of my mind. It was just a broken wine glass, nothing more. But deep down, I couldn't shake off the feeling that had led me to that situation, i needed to figure it out.
As I settled in at the dining table to enjoy the meal Johnny had prepared, there was an air of excitement in the room as the time for gift-giving had arrived. Zensley, the youngest of us all, eagerly tore into his meticulously wrapped present. His face lit up with joy as he unveiled a brand new pair of shoes, a stylish trousers suit, and a collection of toys that immediately captured his attention. He couldn't contain his happiness, jumping around the room with sheer delight.
Next was Kensley's turn to reveal her gift. With delicate hands, she carefully peeled back the wrapping paper to reveal a stunning angelic dress, accompanied by a pair of pristine white patent shoes and a set of dolls that would surely become her new companions. She joined her brother in his celebrations, twirling around in her beautiful new dress with a smile that reached her eyes.
Johnny, always one to crack a joke or two, couldn't resist a moment of teasing apprehension as he eyed his gift. "I hope it's not too tiny to be a trouser," he quipped, giving us a glimpse of his playful nature. Jenny, ever the pragmatist, scolded him gently, urging him to unveil his gift without further delay.
With a mix of nerves and anticipation, Johnny began to unwrap his gift, his fingers moving slowly as if savoring the moment. To his sheer astonishment and delight, as he peered inside the box, he found a substantial amount of cash neatly stacked before him. It was as if his wish had been granted in the most unexpected way, and he couldn't help but feel overwhelmed with gratitude. He nearly stumbled backward in disbelief, a wide grin spreading across his face.
" Thank you universe, you know I needed this ," Johnny showed the cash," am a man ,no trouser suits for me!".
Jenny, our matriarch and the epitome of grace and poise, was the next in line to receive her long-awaited gift. With a serene smile, she unwrapped the carefully selected present before her, revealing a stunning dress that shimmered in the light, a generous amount of cash tucked away in an envelope, and a dainty necklace that exuded elegance. Her eyes widened in surprise, a soft gasp escaping her lips as she took in the thoughtful gesture. Overwhelmed by the love and care evident in her gift, she felt a warmth bloom in her heart, grateful for the thoughtfulness of her boss, a small card that read" Thank you for taking care of my children!"
As the attention turned to me, I hesitated for a moment, feeling a sense of reluctance to open my gift in front of everyone. However, Kensley's eager voice broke through my apprehension, reminding me that it was indeed my turn to reveal what lay inside the carefully wrapped package.
With a mixture of curiosity and anticipation, I carefully untied the ribbon and peeled back the layers of paper, unsure of what awaited me. As the contents of the gift box were unveiled, I found myself staring at a beautiful collection of items that spoke to thoughtfulness and love. A thoughtful book, a delicate piece of jewelry, and a heartfelt note from Wesley.Lovely shoes and a stethoscope .And I pretended that the gifts were over, I knew my gift appeared the largest in size and I won't open it all before them. He had tried, appreciating us was a well thought thought. No wonder Jenny was happy to learn she was working for the mighty Kane.
I was surrounded by the warmth and joy of who I would call family. And as we sat together, basking in the glow of shared laughter and joy, I knew that these moments of togetherness were the most precious gifts of all.How can I miss my home when I have all this love and respect. Nobody to call me useless or belittle me ,as I beg for a good meal.
when everybody left, and I was all alone it was my time to dive deeper to my gift bag..
