Jackie's POV:

As much as I loved sleeping in a bit next to Lucien, I was much happier to be back in my café. I had woken him up and told him I was leaving, and he pulled me in tight and kissed me like I was leaving forever. I almost said forget the café. But my workers needed money too.

I walked around the bakery, already having set the timers for the cinnamon bread, cinnamon rolls, and banana muffins. I also had a timer set for half an hour before Cami would need to be up and out the door.

Thankfully I had one of my favorite hardest working guys coming in today. Martin was quick, effective, and always had the best disposition. He always enjoyed helping in the back when he came in early, and he always got the best tips when he was on register.

He was coming in just 10 minutes before I was set to leave, and I would explain everything quickly and ask him if he ever wanted to help out more around here.

I got the muffins ready to go, put a couple to the side for Cami and Lucien, and got the bread sliced and the rolls all had their sugary sweet icing on top. I started wiping up the lemon bread and icing when Martin came in, his morning happiness already infecting me as I smiled at him.

"Good morning. How are you?"

"Excited to be back." He told me and then he frowned for the first time ever. "Are you okay? Did that guy get caught?"

"No, not yet, but my brother and boyfriend are setting up guards or whatever and cameras." I rolled my eyes and smiled at him. "I do have to get back to my boyfriends, he's got to get his daughter to school and I have the only car. So, I will be gone for no longer than 45 minutes. I will leave you the keys, I will set up the register for you, and thankfully we don't get too swamped with people while I am gone. I am just about to put this in, and it's only going to cook for 25 minutes." I didn't give him time to ask me anything. He hadn't even clocked in yet. I felt bad but I walked with him to the front and let him clock in as I set up the register. I explained I would be putting more 5s and 10s under it just in case, also added more change than normal.

I wrote down the amounts since it was out of the normal and tried to come up with the words to ask him. "And Martin?" I got his attention as I got my purse and the keys to the Jeep.

"Yeah?"

"Ever want to be a shift lead, or be promoted or anything like that?" I asked and waited as he seemed shocked.

"I thought you said it would just be-"

"I know... that was when I didn't have other things to take care of." I gave him a small smile. "My boyfriend has a daughter, she goes to school and he works full time like I do, and I am kind of the only person in the new little... family, that might be able to do something about her schedule. I know I said you'll never move up ranks, but maybe I need someone like that now. Are you willing?"

"Yes." He said it quick and covered his mouth and giggled and shook his head. "I would love to help out as much as I could. I was going to ask for more hours anyway."

"How much time do you have this week?" I asked knowing that next week Cami was out of school for Thanksgiving.

"I have every day free but Friday." He told me and I nodded.

"Okay... well, tell me the hours you're available to come in this week, and this weekend, maybe some next week and I will try and write out as much as I can got you to have as a reference." I told him and my alarm went off that I had to go now before I was late. "I will be back in no longer than 45 minutes." I told him and he nodded happily. "Lemon is done in 15, and the icing is simple-"

"I know, I love making it and taste testing." He waved me off and I smiled.

"Thank you." I rushed out and went right to the back door, snatching the goodies I had made for Lucien and Cami on my way out as well.

I got in the car, messaged Lucien I was on my way with breakfast and drove on the basically empty streets before getting to his place, opening the gate, then the garage before hopping out.

I pushed open the door and heard Lucien telling Cami that I had brought breakfast and that I was here. She ran out of the kitchen and looked at me with bright eyes. "Made specially for you two, and still warm." I handed over the big muffin before going right to Lucien who pulled me into his side and gave me a kiss.

"Eat up, go to the bathroom, brush your teeth, and then we got to get her back to the café." Lucien told her and gave her a wink before he took a bite of his. "I'm just packing her lunch." He told me and I nodded. There was plenty of leftovers from last night when I made Spanish rice, he made carne asada on the grill. My brother had been invited to stay for dinner, and he and Razor had a lot of 'daredevil' stories to share, most of my brothers being in the army and the both shared scars.

I had rolled my eyes and asked Cami to come in and cook with me as they started to talk some kind of illegal fights and stuff. She was already immune, but I thought she might enjoy learning how to cook new things.

I sat and watched them get ready and Lucien pulled on his cut before he looked at me and smirked. "What?"

"You look like you're in no hurry to get back to the café."

"I have someone who already agreed to be a shift lead, it's a start, and maybe I can train him as a manager or something but not right away, it would be too much for him." I shrugged knowing that Martin was the most responsible, and he had been almost my first hire. I had about three people before him work for me, but without opportunities they left.

"Well... that's good. How long do you think it will take to train him?" He asked as he set the lunch box and water down on the table and he leaned over me.

"I will work with him this week all except Friday, which is good because we might need all hands-on deck here for the sleepover." I saw the groan working its way on his face, but I just smiled and stood up. "We might need to get some more things like candy for it but other than that we shouldn't need too much more shopping wise. Maybe a new movie." I offered and he sighed and worked his jaw.

"We'll see how good her parent conference is this week." He told me and while I did feel a little confused and left out, it didn't really mean he didn't want me to know about it, just that he didn't think about telling me about it until it probably came up.

"What are you doing today?" I asked him and he smirked at me.

"I am your guard today. I will sit in the café all day." He leaned in, giving me, a kiss and I could taste my muffin on his lips and when he pulled away, I licked my lips and bit my lower one.

"So, you'll be hyped up on caffeine and lemon bread?" I asked and he smirked.

"Maybe. I might only be there until 2." He added and I nodded slowly before looking him over. Maybe that was why he was wearing his cut. He took it with him, but he usually didn't wear it around the house.

"I can't wait to introduce you to Martin then." I smirked knowing Martin had commented on me getting with the hot biker a couple times these past couple weeks since school restarted.

"Yeah? He the overly happy one or the one that shouts too loud?"

"He's the gay happy one that gets the best tips and has the cutest way of making everyone happy at the register." I told him and he smirked at me.

"So, the overly happy one." He restated and I rolled my eyes.

"My future shift lead/ manager." I told him and he nodded.

"I like the guy already." He got closer to me, giving me, a kiss and I melted and watched him finish getting ready. We got into the Jeep, him driving, the music being turned up, and I got a hug from Cami as she got out and jobbed into the gates.

Lucien's POV:

I watched her teach the kid what to do when there were disgruntled customers on the little computer, and she apologized for the added wait time and she made them a larger size or gave them some sort of coupon to come back in the next day for a small drink free.

There wasn't any sign of trouble or her brother, or her father. I sat there, all day, getting messages from the shop about what I would have to go in and order for certain cars, but I could do that from home tonight.

I got a couple messages from Razor saying there was a meeting tonight, 9pm. I would usually take Cami to the clubhouse and let her sleep there when there were late meetings, but now that Jackie was staying with me... she could have a little girls night with her when I leave before she had to go to bed.

I was bored most of the day, silently wishing that guy had the balls to come back but I also knew that she would be in more danger if he did. He wouldn't take his gun off another person, let alone me.

I watched her move, she smiled at everyone, and I held myself back when a guy would flirt with her, even using one of my lines to try and get her to tell them her name. She had shot me a look and told them she was taken so the flirting was useless.

I clenched my teeth, and hands, and my entire body went taunt when a guy had still given her number. Only her laugh and her pushing it back to him stopped me from getting up and throwing the guy out myself.

He left mumbling about how he would be taking his business elsewhere and I just watched him walk. It wasn't a minute later I felt a hand on my shoulder and a surprise kiss on my lips. I pulled back and raised my hand to her chin and rubbed my thumb over her lower lip.

"You're new cup of coffee." She whispered and I looked to see she had brought me my usual and a muffin like this morning. "Stop being so protective of me. Those men are just like you were... expect, you actually won me." She gave me another kiss and I felt 10 feet tall as I sat and watched her for a couple more hours.

She came with me to get Cami and she came running, upset that one of her little friends made a comment about how weird it was to see a woman staying with her dad for so long.

I told her not to even think about it, and before long, she was happy and all smiles as we made dinner like old times. I had dropped Jackie off at the café on the way home and saw Razor taking over the watch, this time sitting outside. He had already paid for a coffee, and as she walked in, I saw her tell him that he was getting a r****d and that she would give him a muffin.

He refused the money back but would gladly take food.

The café closed at 5, and Razor had offered to bring her home, but I saw red at the mere image of Jackie being on the back of someone else's bike.

So, at 5, we, meaning Cami and I, went to pick her up. I waited inside alone as my own daughter ran to Razor and stayed in his arms. Talking his ear off about how she would finally get to do her sleepover with her friends, and while he was really not interested, he pretended for her.

I listened as Jackie taught the Martin kid what to do for closing, and he took a few notes in the order process, and then she smiled at him, too wide and I stood and cleared my throat. They both looked at me and I smirked before looking at him.

"I will get you a key made, probably will get you a whole key ring, back door, safe, front door and the thing that goes around the windows." She told him and he nodded and gulped as he looked at me and then Razor before back to her. "Don't worry about the bodyguards, they won't be here every night." She gave me a look, but I didn't care.

"Have a good night." I waved at the kid as he walked to his bucket of a car and got in. He was a happy kid, and if my woman trusted him, so would I.

Time to put this day to an end. I was tired as f**k and I didn't do all that much. I would hold my old woman on the couch until Cami finished her homework and wanted to watch a movie to sleep to, and then I would put both my girls to bed.

I had the good life now. Except the part that my woman needed real protection.
