Riley paced the sterile hospital corridor, her nerves frayed from the events of the night. Every few seconds, she glanced towards the double doors leading to the emergency room, willing them to open and bring news of Alex’s condition. Mason stood nearby, his expression a mirror of Riley’s worry, but he remained composed, a pillar of strength in the face of uncertainty.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, a doctor emerged from the ER. Riley’s heart leaped into her throat as she and Mason hurried towards the physician.
