(Unknown POV)
I was meeting with Him hoping he'd fill me in. It's been 3 years. I’ve been gone for too long. I bet they don’t even remember me but it’ll be good to get the information I need before making my true presence known. I hate waiting for people. It’s annoying but if I lose my temper now it could ruin my plans. The room I’m in is small and it’s dark. The drapes are pulled tight and there is only one torch hanging next to the door providing light. The desk is large and takes up more than half the room There are two chairs, one behind the desk and the other in front.
I sat on an oversized wooden throne. It was ghastly and very uncomfortable. There were large tomes and scrolls scattered on the desk and whatever floor space was available. A small fae cat lay sleepily in the corner of the room on top of a tome that had gold embroidering. I was about to leave when the door swung open and He stepped into the room. He locked the door and chanted something I couldn’t understand. There was a flash of blue light then the room around me opened up to reveal a large study with tomes and books, scrolls, and all kinds of magical creatures in cages and bottles and jars. He smiled at me then took a seat next to the fireplace that suddenly was lit and warming the large space.
“Please, join me.”, He said and motioned for me to sit in the adjoining chair. This one was made of fabric and its high back looked more like a foreign throne than a sitting chair. The fabric was a dark reddish color, almost that of dried blood. It was soft but supportive. I could sleep in this chair if allowed.
“Why have you come to my home?”, He asked and took a sip of some red thick liquid.
I stared at him and then stayed silent. I had to choose my words carefully.
“I have been away too long. Can’t I visit an old friend?”
“You and I are not ‘friends’, as you say. If I have not killed you, it's because I don’t like how your kind taste. Also, I’m much too invested in keeping pure to dirty my hands with the likes of you. If there is nothing you need or have to offer then I would appreciate you leaving.”, He said and then took another sip. He didn’t even look in my direction. He stared into the fire as if it could provide him with the secrets of the world.
I feign hurt and place my hand on my chest. “After all, I’ve done for you. You could at least be nicer to me but oh well I guess I’m not really here for a social call.”
“Then why have you come?”
“I need information. I can’t ask Tre or Dameion. They are currently not in the city.”
“Fine, but why do you need this information and how is it that I have it and not you. You sit higher on the council than any of us.”
“That I cannot say but for your help, I will compensate you handsomely.”
“Here take this drink and follow me to the upper study”, With that, he was no longer sitting on the chair beside me and a staircase appeared next to the fireplace. The stone was shining like glass but it was solid. I don’t know how he managed all this but I guess some mystery was always fun.
I climb the stairs and once at the top, the fae cat appears and leads me to a room with a single chair. The chair was black and beside it was a small table. I placed the drink on the table and sat down. The room grew dark and then a white light lit up the far wall. There before me was the day Alincdor lost his life. It was a shame that he lost his life in such a manner. That beautiful sexy and almost intoxicating dragon ripped him to pieces, it was comical.
I continued to watch the next 3 years unfold before me. He never returned to my presence. The fae cat however slept on my lap like a child.
(Mia’s POV)
I didn’t feel anymore. It's been just darkness. The same darkness I felt the first time I had fainted at the sideshow. It was lonely here. I couldn’t see or hear anything. I don’t know if I’m alive or dead. If Ghari is dead or alive. If my friends are dead or alive. I f*****g hate this. I let out a scream and it echoed.
“Don’t fear Mia.” a voice said in the dark.
“Who’s there? Why can’t I see you? Where am I?”
“Mia, please stay calm, it is I, Marizel your dragon. It’s finally nice to be able to communicate with you.”
“My dragon. What is Heaven and the Underworld are you talking about? How do I have a dragon if I am just human.”
“You, Mia, are the human form but together we make one very powerful dragon. I was a part of you since you were born. The first memory I have of us is with our parents and they were royal. The Goddess of all dragons, Mya, blessed us with our unique color and many other blessings but when Aziel took us, I was locked away.”
“Royals, Aziel? I don’t understand anything you're saying. Also, why are we in the dark?”
“Oh, right. I’m sorry. Close your eyes.”
I close my eyes and then a warm light seeps into my vision. I open my eyes and it appears we’re outside. The two suns shining down on us. The sky is cloudless and a bright blue. The air is warm but not overwhelming. I can feel the green grass under my feet. The sweet scent of pineapples with brown sugar and lilies surrounded me like a blanket. Not too far from where I was standing was a lake. It stretched out as far as the eye could see and it seemed to go on forever. I looked around until my eyes came across a large beast. She was majestic, beautiful, and graceful. Her scales were purple and sparkled in the sun. It gave her an iridescent look. On the top of her head was a crown made of tangled stone. How that was possible I didn’t know. The horns curved and twisted until they came to a point. They too were made of a stone-like scale.
She bowed to me and spread her wings. They were almost see-through. The sun reflected through them and caused them to light up. They started out purple then faded into shades of blue. The stone-like scales created a vine pattern within the wing and then made claw-like points at the edge of the wings. I reached out my hand and touched her head. The scales were rough but comforting. She smiled and then licked my face as a dog would. She growled with laughter.
“Why!!!!”
“Because I thought it would lighten the mood, my Princess.“
I laughed this time. I felt better. She really was my other half. The missing piece in my soul. She laid down in the grass by the lake. I sat down beside her and leaned against her. I let her breathing lull me to sleep. I had many questions to ask her but I needed to rest now.
_______
I woke to Marizel sleeping and snoring lightly. It was very peaceful here. I didn’t know where we were nor why the two suns didn’t ever seem to move from their position in the sky. I did feel safe and I didn't want to leave but then I remembered that I had friends to find. I guess she felt my worries because she stirred and spoke in a low rumble, “Mia, they are all alive and well.”
“Can you tell me more?”, I asked her turning to face her. I noticed that she had jeweled like purple eyes with the outer rim a golden-red like my eyes.
“Yes but first I must let you know that time here is different than that of where you reside. Here it may feel like it's only been a few minutes but out there time has passed much faster.”
“How much time are you talking about? A few days, a few months?”
“A few years. Almost 3 years to be exact.”
“WHAT?!!!!!! How?”
“Our magic saved us and kept you alive. The first 2 years I healed our soul and was able to get us into this space so that I could talk with you. On the outside, you have been seen as sleep and they have cared for your body. Prince Ghari is also a dragon and his dragon Thor has been keeping me informed of the outside. I have asked that he keep our communication a secret from Ghari. If Ghari knew that I was the one keeping you under then he would force you to wake and I need more time to make us stronger. A dark witch in the hands of Aziel placed a very strong spell on us so that I wouldn’t be able to emerge when you came of age. Helyma reinforced that spell when you were 16 but now that you’re about to end your 18th year we should have enough power to break free. I do not know if it’s going to be enough but if not then we need to find the dark witch and have her undo the spell. Thor has been trying to help me find more information. The whereabouts of that witch and who she was is not fully known.”
“I’m even more confused but how do you know all this. I never knew any of this.”
“The Goddess Mya gave me some memories and some information but due to the heavy spell, she couldn’t give me all of it. “
“Okay, so let me get this straight, I am a royal dragon. A dark witch that worked with Aziel put a spell on us and sealed you away from me. I’ve been asleep for almost 3 years and magic is what helped you finally be able to contact me. Ghari has a dragon named Thor and he’s been keeping you apprised of the outside world. You’re hoping that once my 18th year is done, you’ll have enough power to break the spell but if it doesn’t, we have to find a dark witch we know nothing about and get her to undo it?”
“Yes, also, Alincdor is dead, we killed him. Aziel is nowhere to be found and his second in command, Tre is also missing. Dameion has gone into hiding and those that have helped them all have either been put to death or are currently imprisoned.”
“WOW! This is all too much. But I don’t have much else to go on and since you are a part of me I guess I have to believe you.”
“Well, our time here is coming to an end soon. I will be waking you up. I will not be able to contact you once you’re awake until the spell is broken. Remember not to let Ghari know about our magic. Thor is aware and when the time is right we will reveal all to him. If within a week's
time I have not contacted you, begin the search for the dark witch. Now, rest for you’re about to wake.”
I leaned against her and drifted off to a different kind of sleep. Memories of the past years flooded my mind and then I could feel a hand stroking my cheek and another one holding my hand. I could feel a single tear roll down the opposite cheek from where the hand was. I couldn’t feel Marizel anymore.
