Chapter 13: Cahir and Mitchell

2136 Words
(Cahir’s POV) Mitchell and I had walked through the woods, keeping an eye on the cabin. It felt like we were walking for hours, days, weeks, not really sure but what I did know was we didn’t seem to get any closer to the cabin. We decided to make a small camp and rest before attempting to reach the cabin again. “We should rest here, Second Prince,” suggested Mitch while pointing to a group of trees nearby. I nodded and we gathered some sticks to make a fire. Mitch caught us a rabbit and prepared it for our meal. We sat in comfortable silence. Mitch was my best friend and Black Knight. I, however, felt like he was my true brother. He and I were the same age but my life as the second prince was easier than his as an elf knight. The majority of the knights in the royal guard were dragons or warlocks. He really was a rare breed. I’m glad to have him watch my back. Elf knights aren’t allowed to have forevers or mates until they retire so I feel bad for Mitch cause if he finds him or her before he retires he’ll have to reject him or her. For the elves, duty is first and cannot be shared with your forever. Mitch is even rarer than his fellow elves cause he can use magic like warlocks and witches. The other elves choose not to be warriors cause they would rather have their mates. Mitch, however, choose to stay by my side and his loyalty is something I’ll never forget. Hopefully, if his mate does show up I can help him out instead of having to lose him or her. My thoughts return to the present as Mitchell stirs. “You should rest, my prince. I will take the first watch.” I nod and pick a soft spot under the large oak tree. I don’t know how much time passes by but I felt a presence lay beside me and whisper yell, “WAKE UP LOVE!! WAKE UP NOW!!” I sat straight up and looked around me desperately looking for her. Who the heck was she? There was no one beside me and Mitch was perched on a high tree branch looking out. I looked up at him and yelled, “Mitch, man, is everything okay?! Did you see a female, just now?!” He peered down at me and looked confused by my words, “Everything is good for the moment! Are you okay, Sir? You seem restless! There hasn’t been a soul this whole time.” “It’s nothing. I’m just worried about my brother.”, I shook my head clear. I guess it was a dream.  He easily jumped down from the branch and landed in front of me. He placed his hand on my shoulder and looked me over one more time before perking up his ears. “I guess, you were just dreaming”, he said as I watched him stand at attention, then without a sound, he motioned me to hide and we stood behind the oak tree. As we listened in silence, we heard leaves crunching and branches cracking. Someone was walking towards us. Luckily the fire we had, had gone out and before long we saw who was walking through.  The warlock from the show, I believe his name was Ciel. He was so engrossed in his own thoughts, that he didn’t take notice that there was a small camp in front of the trees and he walked on past us without even glancing about. Mitch waited for a few steps and then chanted the invisible cloak spell. I understood immediately that we intended to follow him. In silence, we followed Ciel as safely as we could. He never looked back nor did he feel our presence. I guess whatever he was thinking about really kept his attention. We came upon a clearing and in the middle, we could see the cabin we had been trying to reach. We stopped at the tree line and watched Ciel knock on the door. To our surprise, Alincdor opened the door and punched Ciel dead in the face. He laid him out and continued the assault without much mercy. He was yelling at him about a missing person named Mia and something about being useless. When he was done he left the warlock bleeding and walked back into the cabin. At the door before walking in he stopped and told the warlock to hurry up, Tre was waiting for them. “Who was this Tre person? My father’s magic advisor was named Tre. I hope it’s not him.” I mind-called Mitch, to not give us away, “We should follow them inside, I have a feeling these people are behind our current situation.” He nodded and we waited for the warlock to walk in the cabin before slipping in behind him. We stood in an open living area that lead to a corridor with two doors and a kitchen that was filled with glass containers and colorful liquids. I’ve seen these before at the palace. I know many warlocks and witches use these types of things but these were marked with the royal seal. “f*****g bastard was the Tre from father’s council. He’ll pay for his betrayal.” I motioned to Mitch to go towards the corridor and we followed it to the first door. This door opened up to a torture chamber. There were iron chains on the walls, a wooden table with straps, and another table with various tools. There was dry blood pooled under the table, suggesting that someone was tortured not that long ago. There were other various devices that looked like they caused lots of pain but I had never seen them before. One looked like a cage of some sort but it was solid metal. We closed this door and headed towards the other door.  The warlock, Alincdor, and Tre were in the kitchen, we hoped there were no more creatures or guards about the place. When we reached the second door we heard some noises coming from inside and decided not to open it. Unbeknown to us, the corridor continued further and there was a short sharp turn in the corridor that lead to yet another door. We stood at this door listening for anyone and when we were met with silence, we opened it. This door had a hidden stairwell going underground.   We silently looked at each other bewildered because from the outside this cabin did not appear this big. It must have been enchanted like Alincdor’s tent and the show. We descended the stairs slowly and listened for any noises. At the bottom, it opened into another corridor made of stone and black rock. Further down the corridor, cells lined both sides. I safely assumed this was the dungeon and most likely my brother would be done here. I went to place my hand on the wall to inspect it when Mitchell grabbed my arm back and shook his head no. “Sir, don’t touch the walls. That is iron ore, could harm you.” I nodded and backed away from it. Before we could move forward, however, we heard the door at the top of the stairwell creak open and footsteps hit the stairs. Not wanting to be seen, we quickly checked the first cell, it was open, so we scurried inside. We left the door how we had found it.  Once inside hidden we heard voices. I recognized the male voices as Gahir and Kerwyn but there was a female voice with them. “She might be the Mia, that Alincdor was asking Ciel about.” I wanted to go to them but Mitch held me back. Just then,  Alincdor appeared in front of us. We were still under the invisible spell but knew if we made a sound he could make us out. Humans could not detect magic but other creatures could. We both knew this human was working with warlocks so he could have some spells helping him and we didn’t want to risk giving ourselves away. We held our breath as he stood in front of us, inches away from our grasp. He stood there listening to the voices.  I mind-called Mitch, “We should take him down and get the others out of here.” “We cannot. The others are upstairs and we don’t know if they still have those demon minotaurs somewhere, ready for attack. We need to let him go for now. “ “He knows now, that Gahir is the first prince and that we must be here from the royal family. Who knows what he’ll do to us now.”, I angrily held my fists to my side as Mitch places his hand on my arm to steady me. We watched as Alincdor turns on his heels with a smirk on his face and goes back up the stairwell. We let out a collective breath before leaving the cell. “What are we going to do now?”, I say angrily but not loudly. “We need to get out of here and send for help. We can then come back with a plan to get them out of here unharmed.”, Mitch responds as we head toward the stairwell.  His face was serious and unwavering unlike mine but I knew deep down he must be worried about how we were going to get enough help to rescue my brother and the others. Even though I was already on fire wanting to attack these people, I thought more clearly with Mitch around and decided to follow him instead. We made our way back upside and managed to get back outside the cabin without being detected. Once outside we made a dash for the thick trees.  (Mitchell’s POV) We somehow managed to get outside the cabin undetected and made straight for the thick tree line. Once there I dropped my cloak. I was fortunate to have limitless magic but it still wore me out when I used it consistently. While inside the cloak, outside mind-calls don’t work so I wondered if the First Prince or Kerwyn had tried us.  “Sir, have you tried to contact your brother? We are close enough now that he should be able to hear you. That is if the iron in the cells doesn’t interfere with your brother’s abilities.” “I will try in a little. I think right now we need to come up with a plan before we reach out to them”, Prince Cahir said matter a factly and then punched the nearby tree leaving a gaping hole.  I guess he really was wound up and if he hadn’t done that it could’ve been disastrous for all of us. He really needs his mate. Only then, do I believe he will calm and grow up. Losing his temper before thinking things through was something he struggled with since childhood. “Mich?!!”, Cahir angrily called out bringing my attention back to the present. “Yes! Sir!” “Do you think you could get a message safely to my father and ask for assistance or maybe ask the local Royal Guard to come to our aid?”, he asked looking at me with fire lingering in his eyes. “I can send a raven to the palace but I think we should not involve the local Royal Guard. My instincts tell me that they are either involved with this situation or know of it and are turning a blind eye. This kind of behavior should have been reported to us a long time ago.” He nodded then dismissed me to go send the raven. After sending the raven and putting a spell on it so that it would not be detected, I returned to the prince and found him asleep under some thick shade. The night sky was in full display and the iron from the cells must’ve weakened him. I took my post on a high branch to survey the land and keep watch over the prince and cabin at the same time. It wasn’t long when I noticed a figure appear in the clearing and walk towards the cabin. My eyesight was better than most and with the enhanced spell to see during the night, I saw before me a dragon that was long thought lost or dead. Aziel. He stormed into the cabin, and although I couldn’t hear any conversations I knew all too well what these people were planning. I prayed to the Lord of Elves that the King and his army were on their way.
