I put everything I had into healing her. Poured every bit of magic that I possessed and as I collapsed and my eyes shut, I still saw those black veins. I didn’t let myself rest for but a minute before I forced myself back to my feet again. I took a step forward to position myself again but Simon stood in front me. “Out of the way,” I demanded with a shake of my head. The world spun around me. It took far too long for me to feel the ground beneath my hooves again. Or at least the hard wooden floor that separated me from it. I hated this cottage and all of the unnaturalness that surrounded me.
