Chapter 5: Slander

Deanna grasped her dress hard. She seemed to be in pain when she said, "Mom, ever since you entered here, you’ve shown no concern for me, and the first thing you did was to tell the officers that the thing happened to me is just a misunderstanding. You don't even know the whole story, but you're trying hard to exonerate this bastard. I don't believe that you two weren’t working together to set me up. Or maybe... it’s just that you hate me so much that you want to ruin me."

Deanna looked like she was trying to hold back her tears when she put down her trembling hands. At the sight of that, the officers, who were usually dead to all feelings, instantly started to pity Deanna.

Especially when she said the last sentence in a choked voice, many female officers and those who had children cried silently. They thought that the young girl should have grown up carefreely instead of being hated by her dearest mother.

What makes her mother hate her?

The officers looked at Eva and Charles with hatred in their eyes. She’s trying to ruin her kid's life. She’s so despicable.

Charles couldn't help but curse Eva in his heart when he found that what she did made others turn against him.

"I'm doing it for your own good. I'm just afraid that you would ruin your own future." Eva sensed the officers’ hostility toward her and felt uncertain about Deanna's attitude. Therefore, she could only fake a cry to seek sympathy from them.

"Is it MY future that you’re worrying over?" Deanna asked coldly.

Eva got alarmed and had no idea what Deanna was trying to say.

"Deanna, why are you questioning me like this? I’m your mother."

"Did you think of me as your daughter when you drugged me and presented me to this ugly scum for your own interests?" Deanna said while turned her back to the officers. She kept pressing her mother while revealing her true feelings. "You've been trying to destroy me, haven’t you?"

Deanna seemed like a stranger to Eva now as if she was going all in to revenge on Eva. Just a look from her was enough to make Eva shiver.

What happened to her in just one night?

Before Eva could defend herself, Deanna wiped her tears pitifully and turned to the officers. She looked so sad as if she had made a tough decision. "Officers, I think you should be very clear about the case now. My mother... Ms. Lance tried to ruin me for her own interests. She conspired with Charles, the investor, to drug me and r**e me. Now, I shall press charges on them."

Deanna plausibly claimed without flinching. The officers were touched due to her sincere tears.

In their eyes, it must be tough for her to send her mother to jail.

When Deanna was sobbing, she secretly raised her head and glanced at the officers. Judging from their responses, she knew that she had claimed the moral high ground. Good. Putting on a brave face like that can easily win them over.

She had intended to send Charles to jail. Since Eva wouldn't give up her evil intentions, Deanna felt it right to press charges on her at the same time.

Eva had never thought that Deanna would become sharp-tongued all of a sudden. She is so ungrateful that she is going to send Eva to jail!

Eva immediately screamed, "Deanna, do you know what you're doing? I'm your mother! How dare you press charges on me!"

You little b***h, you think you’re fully-fledged now, don’t you?

Out of anger, Eva raised her hand and was about to slap Deanna. Her red and sharp fingernails looked quite frightening. When her hand was getting close to Deanna’s face, she clenched it a little bit to scratch Deanna’s tender and fair cheek.

Everyone was shocked and thought that Deanna's face would be ruined by Eva’s sharp fingernails.

Even Charles felt pity for her pretty face which was about to be ruined.

At this critical moment, Christian grabbed Eva's wrist forcefully. He glared at her coldly.

Eva was in so much pain that she felt her bones were about to be crashed. Looking at Christian, she was shocked and resentful. "Who the hell are you? Let go of me right now! I'm teaching my daughter a lesson."

Christian narrowed his eyes and looked quite murderous. It made Eva feel scared immediately. "You have no right to do that," he said.

He hadn't expected that Deanna had led such a miserable life over the years. She had lost her father and had to live with such a selfish mother. If I weren’t there for her yesterday, she might have been...

Deanna never wanted to make Christian get involved in it since they were unfamiliar with each other, so she was quite surprised when she saw him stand up for her.

She secretly glanced at him and gave him a grateful look.

When Charles found that Deanna was even going to sue Eva, he knew that his situation was quite bad. He said, "You have no evidence for all the things you just said! I'm gonna sue you for slander!"

And then he indicated Eva to slander her daughter.

Since you’re going to sue us, we’ll show no mercy. You will regret it when you’re thrown into jail.

As Eva understood his meaning, there was an evil look in her eyes. She gritted her teeth and spat out the secret. "Deanna, I don't want to make things difficult for you, but I didn't expect you to be so snobbish. You shouldn’t have bitten the hand that feeds you, because that would be just shameless.

"All right. It's time to tell this dishonorable story. Officers, this incident has nothing to do with Charles. It was just a scheme came up by Deanna. She wanted to be the leading actress in Ode to the Wonderland, but she doesn’t know any big shots in the showbiz. She hoped to get connected to Charles. That’s why she asked me to help so she could sleep with him to get the role.

“Yes, I gave her the drug, but she took it voluntarily.

"As for why she was in his room, it's probably because she went there, but Charles denied her proposal and he was driving her out."

Eva pretended to fall on the chair dispiritedly and cried. She looked quite righteous when accusing her daughter.

Don't blame me, Deanna. You made me do this. Let's see what you can do when you’re in jail!

Charles was satisfied with Eva's response and smiled happily. He thought that he had been rescued from a desperate situation. "That's right. I hate those dirty deals in the showbiz most. I was told that a talented girl would come to meet me, so I went to that room to talk with her.

"But I didn't expect that she would be bold enough to directly ask for the leading role . I'm a man of principle, so I immediately rejected her request. It made her angry. She threatened me that if I didn't say yes, she would accuse me of drugging her and r****g her.

"Officers, you should arrest her right now! All of this has been just her scheme."

Deanna showed a faint smile when she saw that Eva and Charles were trying to frame her. She glanced at them with a calm look.

The officers were in a dilemma. They returned to where they had started. Even if they were partial to the girl, she wouldn't have beaten the evil investor and her evil mother without the most accurate and direct evidence or a witness. First, she needed to prove that she had been forced to take the drug. And second, she needed to prove that Charles had been trying to r**e her.

Obviously, there had been no witness at the scene. So this case couldn't never be settled.

"Ahem, we can't trust you without any hard evidence," said one officer.

"I have evidence for what I just said!" Deanna suddenly said. She looked at Eva and Charles with sarcasm.
