Chapter 2

Emma Rossi narrating We arrived at the airport with a few minutes to spare, so we sat down and waited for our flight to be called. We were supposed to fly on my father's private jet, but it was undergoing maintenance, so we ended up buying first-class tickets. — Daughter, take care — Uncle Nate said. — Don't worry, Uncle, I'll take care of her — I said, and he looked at me mockingly. — That's what worries me — he replied, and I smiled. — I'm an angel — I said, and my father agreed. — More like a corrupted angel — he said, and Mom smiled. — Daughter, don't forget to call Dad every day — my father said. — Okay — I hugged him, and he kissed my forehead. — That house will be so dull without you guys — Mom said. — True — Dad said. — We need to grow up and not stay under your wings forever — I said. — We need to make our own way and live our lives — Giulia said. — How beautiful — Uncle Nate said, hugging my father. — May you have great success and many boyfriends — my mother said the last part quietly, — and may you be happy. — Attention, passengers on the flight to New York, boarding authorized... — It's time — I said, and we hugged and cried. I don't like goodbyes, and I know Giulia doesn't either, and I know she has many reasons for that. — Go and be happy, my loves. We'll be here watching everything and rooting for you — Mom said. — Is there time for us to kidnap them so they don't have to travel? — my father asked Uncle Nate. — Stop being silly, you two — Giulia said. — Goodbye, family — we said together. We headed towards the plane, where we boarded and sat down, and I held my friend's hand. — Ready? — I asked. — Ready! — she replied. And from now on, it'll just be us two on a new journey, and I hope only good things happen. [...] We've just arrived and are waiting for our luggage. I look at the time, it's 6:30 — I groaned tiredly and looked at Giulia, who was no different from me. — I'm dead tired — she said, — I just want to sleep for three days. — Me too, but I don't have that time because I have to work — I made a sad face. — You need to rest and not overload yourself because if you stress out, you might go back to that habit of yours — Giu said. — I don't do that anymore — I said, — I haven't felt the urge again. — I'll keep an eye on you — she said, and I rolled my eyes. A few minutes later, we picked up our luggage and headed to the car waiting for us to go to my family's house. My parents practically have a house in almost every country, so whenever we travel, we don't need to rent an apartment unless we want to. [...] We arrived home, and the driver took out the luggage while the staff carried them inside. — I never get used to this — Giu said, — even though we were raised with maids and drivers since we were kids, it's always strange to have someone do everything for you — Giu said. — Me neither — I replied. — Ladies, your things are already in your rooms — said a woman who seemed to be around fifty years old, whose name I still didn't know. — What is your name? — I asked. — Antonella, ma'am — she replied. — Please, call me Emma and this is Giulia — I smiled warmly at her. — Yes, ma'am... Emma — she smiled. — Well, now that we are properly introduced, I'm going to my room — I yawned, — I need to sleep. We said goodbye to Antonella and went to our rooms. Upon entering mine, I took off my clothes, leaving only my underwear, and I threw myself on the bed, where it didn't take long for me to fall asleep. I woke up at a certain moment with the right side of the bed sinking, and I looked over to see Giu lying down beside me. — Can I sleep with you? — she asked, pouting cutely. — Another nightmare? — I asked, seeing her nod — come here! I smiled as she threw herself on top of me and hugged me. Giulia is very needy, and after everything she has been through, this has only increased, and sometimes she has nightmares where she relives all the events that caused her the most suffering.
