Like the wind, Casco was gone, his bank accounts in various oddball countries in Africa and Asia were once again at an acceptable balance, even though most of the so-called banks that he dealt with were little more than back street money changer operations that made their profit from charging exorbitant fees for what amounted to illegal money laundering. Casco knew all the scams and they knew that he knew, but the game went on and he was satisfied that this fiscal arrangement was still better than using conventional monetary institutions where the same kind of swindles went on in broad daylight and no one complained as long as the governments got their share.
