Chapter 3
The visit with Mr. Rafferty and his tabby cat Smoochers went smoothly, the middle-aged man worried about a tiny cut on the cat’s ear. With the wound cleaned and a short round of antibiotics started, the two ventured back home, exchanging holiday greetings with Clara and Miss Maggie. After checking with her always chipper receptionist—nobody else expected until closer to three—Clara headed out to answer Asher Barlow’s cry of help.
Of course, upon mentioning the name of the town’s most eligible bachelor, Clara received the same statement she always did from Miss Maggie in regards to the man. “You two would make the cutest couple.”
