Alexandria POV
"It can't be," I thought, feeling a wave of disbelief washed over me as I laid eyes on him after five long years. The sight of Mark made me want to vanish from where I stood. He seemed to notice my discomfort and turned to face me. "Are you alright?" he asked, concern evident in his voice.
Before I could respond, Raziel interjected once again. "You two must be close," he commented, his tone laced with sarcasm, as his eyes lingered on me. I felt a pang of unease at his words.
"Yes, they are," Crazy Dog chimed in, coming to our defense. "They are our top chefs and very competent in their work."
Raziel smiled and glanced at Mark's hand resting on my waist. I could see the slight frown on his face before he chuckled. "I can see that closeness," he remarked, clearing his throat. Then, he turned his attention towards me. "You, Miss Alexa," he pointed at me.
Alexa. Just hearing him call me by that name was enough to trigger memories of our past. That was how he used to address me when we were together, his tone soft yet bitter.
"Yes... sir... I mean, your Highness," I stammered, scratching the back of my head and lowering my gaze.
"I would appreciate it if you looked at me," he requested, though it sounded more like an order.
"Alexandria!" Crazy Dog's voice snapped me out of my thoughts, and I quickly raised my head to face him. "What would you like the chefs to do for you, your Highness?" he asked.
Raziel cleared his throat and folded his arms, his gaze fixed on me once again. I averted my eyes, pretending to look away, and I heard him chuckle. "Please serve me, Miss Alexa," he said.
Nervously scratching the back of my head, I pretended to look down. I couldn't believe he was asking me to do such a thing. If I had known he would be at this event, I would never have shown up. I had hidden away for so long, only to be found by him again. The words he uttered before we parted echoed in my mind, and I was certain he still remembered them.
Never show up in front of me.
"Miss Alexa," Raziel's voice interrupted my thoughts, and he gestured toward his glass. "Please do me the pleasure of pouring the wine for me," he requested, flashing a smile in my direction.
Nodding in response, I stepped away from Mark and made my way towards him. With trembling hands, I picked up the bottle from the table, preparing to pour the wine into his glass. Suddenly, I felt his hand on my waist, and panic surged through me. In my haste, I spilled the wine on the table and his legs. "Goodness," I exclaimed, dropping the wine glass to the floor in my trembling state.
"Alexandria!" Crazy Dog shouted, his voice filled with disbelief. "What the hell are you doing in front of the king?"
Realizing my mistake, I fell to my knees and quickly apologized. "Your Highnesses, I'm sorry," I said, biting my lower lip in frustration. I shouldn't have allowed Raziel to affect me with just a simple touch, but I did, and it made me look like a fool. I despised that I had to act this way not only in front of him but also in the presence of the human king, Mark, and my eccentric boss.
"I am sorry," I apologized once again.
Raziel chuckled and stood up from the ground. "It's nothing," he said, but I could sense there was something more behind his words. Raziel was never one to show mercy. He hadn't shown any five years ago when I was accused of infidelity. He had believed everyone else except me. "Is it a problem, King Luca?" he asked the human king, who shook his head in response. "Of course. Now, Miss Alexa, please show me to the washroom," he ordered.
Raising my head, I pointed to myself, wondering why he needed me when he could easily have someone else fulfill his request. Letting out a deep sigh, I realized he was indeed speaking to me. "Yes, your highness," I stood up from the ground and started walking away. "This way, your highness," I told him.
"May I accompany you?" the Lycan seated with Raziel, and Mark asked simultaneously.
However, Raziel shook his head in response. "She shall show me the way alone. If I need you, Kylan, I will let you know," he said to the Lycan, then turned to face Mark. "I'm not sure you're needed," Raziel said to him, and he took hold of my hand, pulling me away from the scene.
"What are you doing?" I whispered to him as he dragged me toward the washroom. "You asked me to show you the way, not take you to the washroom," I protested when we reached the entrance, but my words fell on deaf ears as he pulled me inside and locked the door behind us. ‘’your……’’
"Alexandria!" he shouted my name in full, a tone he always used when he was angry. "Didn't I tell you not to show your face in front of me again? But you refused to adhere to simple warnings, and here you are."
Show my face in front of him? He must be delusional. "Your Highness, I..." I began, but Raziel cut me off with his laughter.
"What happened to saying Raziel? Are you trying to act all formal with me because you are with another man?" he yelled at me, his frustration evident.
I couldn't understand his reasons for yelling at me when I had not done anything wrong. He was the one who hadn't believed me five years ago, and yet he acted as if I had done something wrong by not calling him by his name, which was infuriating. "Mark is..." I tried to explain, but he laughed again, mocking my words.
"So you can call him by his name, and yet you address me as 'your highness'," he scoffed and grabbed my hand, pulling me into his chest. He wrapped his hand around my waist possessively. "Alexa," he muttered my name, his blue eyes piercing into mine, and for a moment, I saw a glimpse of the man I once loved. Memories I had longed to forget flooded back. "You are not allowed to be seen with that man, especially when you are around me, Alexa!" he warned, his voice filled with a mix of anger and longing.
I scoffed and tried to push him away, but he tightened his grip on my hand, pinning it above my head. "What the hell is your deal, Raziel?" I finally said his name, exasperated. He smirked wickedly at me. "You were the one who rejected me five years ago, and now you act as if you have a claim over me, which is annoying coming from you!" I retorted, frustration seeping into my words.
Raziel laughed and leaned closer to me, our lips almost touching. I could feel his breath on mine. "A claim?" he scoffed, then leaned in to whisper into my ear. "I'm just trying to save a man who would be stupid enough to fall for someone like you," he said, his words cutting through me, leaving me shocked. "Oh," he faced me again. "Do you think I am doing all of this just to win you back, Alexa?" he asked, his voice laced with a mixture of bitterness and hurt.
I blinked, speechless. There was nothing to say. There was too much to process. "I am only trying to save that human who would be so heartbroken once he heard about what you did in the past," he continued, sighing heavily. "I never expected to see you like this again after five years, and I must say, you don't look miserable enough for what you did to me back then."
"What?" I stammered, shocked beyond words. I never expected him to still hold a grudge after all these years. A grudge based on something that wasn't even true. He had trusted everyone else and refused to believe me. "Raziel, I never knew it was you coming. If I had known, I wouldn't have taken the job, and I..."
Raziel leaned in again, brushing away strands of hair from my forehead and placing his hand on my cheek. "Are you saying that you don't want to see me? Is that why you had an affair five years ago because you felt I wasn't satisfactory enough for you?" he yelled at me, his frustration boiling over.
"Raziel!" I shouted at him, wondering if he was bipolar. One moment, he was talking about making me miserable, and the next, he acted as if he couldn't bear to part with me. I couldn't fathom his reasons for behaving this way. It was all too confusing, and I couldn't decipher the man he had become.
I contemplated telling him about our children, to let him know that I had never cheated on him all those years ago, but the way he was yelling at me made me question if it was the right time to reveal the truth.
"Alexa," he let go of my hands and fixed his tie. "Seeing you right now infuriates me so much," he said, his eyes glowing with a golden hue. His Lycan was attempting to take over, but Raziel fought to keep it at bay, and his eyes returned to their usual blue color. "I don't want you appearing in front of me again, and don't blame me for what I might do if you ever cross my path," he warned, his voice filled with a mix of anger and pain.
Just as I was about to reply, my phone started ringing, and I moved away from him to answer the call. "Hello, Mark. What's up?"
‘’I just got a call from the hospital, Alexa. It's Cody. They say your number is not going through. Where are you?" Mark's urgent voice echoed through the phone.
"What happened to Cody!" I shouted but quickly lowered my voice when I noticed Raziel staring at me. "I'm heading towards you right now," I assured Mark, ending the call. I lowered my head, intending to leave, but Raziel grabbed my hand, his grip firm. "I'm in a rush right now, Raziel," I pleaded, desperate to reach Cody. With a swift motion, I freed my hand from his grasp and rushed out of the washroom without looking back, even when he called my name.
Outside, I found Mark waiting for me. As soon as he saw me, he relayed the news. Cody had suffered another attack and required immediate attention. "Let's go," I urged, determination in my voice. Together, we hurried away, and in my heart, I silently prayed for my baby's safety. As we walked further from the hall, an inexplicable feeling made me glance back, only to find Raziel staring at me with a mixture of disdain and resentment.
I sighed deeply and turned my gaze forward. If only he knew, I thought, as we left the hotel behind.
Arriving at the hospital with Mark, I received the shocking news that would change everything forever. "He needs surgery as soon as possible, Alexandria."
