I’d known my mate was outside within seconds of him arriving, but it was weird that he wasn’t coming in. I gave him a couple of minutes, but when Avi didn’t appear, I got up to see what was going on. Surprised to see him with his fingers curled over the top of the gate and just staring up, I’d called down to him. He was inside seconds later.
I wasn’t surprised at his reluctant answer or his need for a shower. That was usual. But the distress that poured off him was not, nor was the fact that he didn’t give me a quick kiss on the way to the bathroom, or that he avoided my touch. I followed him there, opened the door, and saw him leaning over the bathroom counter.
