Choosing love
ADIRA'S POV
"Please don't go; you are all we have. Remember, you are the successor to your father's position. Don't give the pack a reason to look down on us," the queen, Adira's mother, pleaded with tears flowing down her old, weak eyes as she held onto Adira's luggage.
Adira raised her head and looked at her. "Mother, I want to be with the man of my dreams. The man I love, I can't trade him for anything."
"Not even your family?" The queen asked. I was curious to know her answer. Adira went mute for some secrets as she bent her head. She dropped her luggage on the floor and held onto her mother's shoulders.
"I have to go. He has good plans for me; he is my future; he is the one I have been seeing in my dreams. I won't survive without him by my side. Since you can't accept him, I would rather go with him," Adira teared up as she explained to her mother. The king, her father, sat on his chair, looking at them. He had already made his decision.
"Adira, trust me, those are just mere dreams. He has nothing good for you. He is like the lovely flame of fire; you will have it when you place your hand on it." Her mother tried to convince her; she had already made up her mind. Her father had already decided not to accept Brayan as Adira's mate.
Adira left in tears, and her mother embraced the floor. She wept and had a heart attack; unfortunately, she couldn't survive it. The king swore to go after Adira when it was time.
As Adira got to the new pack, the Golden Shifters pack, Brayan was her mate whom she met at the mating ball, and they bounded and became inseparable. Brayan welcomed Adira and showered her with exclusive love, but she wasn't flowing with it because of the way she left her family.
Night turned to day, and day brought sadness to Adira's heart. The only people who accepted her, the only people who made her feel loved, gave her a high profile in their pack. She took out her diary and held onto it for some minutes before opening it.
She always reads the front page of the diary whenever she opens it: "I am a cursed werewolf who never shifted for the first time in my miserable existence. I have no one in my life; all I get is backlash, to the point of leaving my deadly comfort zone. I will never have anything to do with men again. Dear diary!!" She read it in her mind and tore the page apart. "I have found the one meant for me," she said, proceeding to write down what was on her mind.
"Dear diary! I didn't mean to leave that way; I didn't mean to pay them back with tears. I promise to make it up to them when the time comes." She put down her pen, tears slowly gushing out of her eyes.
Brayan walked into the room, and the moment changed his mood. He sat on the bed and pulled Adira closer to his embrace. "You can't continue this way. I hate it when you sober around me. I feel guilty whenever I see those tears. It breaks my soul; it makes me not focus on anything. The cloud changes according to your mood. I want to be the reason why you grin and have inner peace. I want to stop blaming myself all the time. One thing I promise you, my life, I will lay it down for you. Fate brought us together for a reason; I am here to fix the broken pieces." Brayan's words pierced deep into Adira's soul, causing an increase in the flow of her meek tears.
At that moment, she decided to give it up and focus on Brayan. She slowly withdrew herself from Brayan's embrace, held his two hands, and looked into his eyeballs. "Today, I promise you peace! I promise you, love! I promise to stand by you no matter the obstacles, the pain, or the pressure. I want the cloud to change in our favor; in your embrace, I want to bury my body." Adira's sweet words comforted Brayan's heart. They smiled and hugged.
It was a moment of building trust, assuring each other, and making the journey easier.
Adira needed to get used to the new pack, so she took a walk around. The nice moment was interrupted by a stunning, appealing figure that came out of nowhere with some men. She was dressed in a very expensive royal blue gown, with her long hair twisted to the back. She blocked Adira's way. "b***h! I will advise you to mind the way you move around this pack," she said, turning to leave, then remembering something. "You see this, all these things you are doing," she demonstrated with her hand. "It won't work. Well, I love the trash on your neck."
Adira watched the strange act unfold before her; she said nothing and stood like a lifeless tree. As the mysterious girl left, Adira watched her until her back wasn't seen again. She went home unbothered but had to explain to Brayan.
"I think strange things happen here a lot," Adira said, trying to bring up what happened earlier as Brayan fed her chips.
Brayan paused. "Strange things like what?"
Adira adjusted and started: "On my way back, I was harassed by someone."
Brayan dropped the chips. "Harassed by who? Who dares try my queen?" He asked like a wounded lion, ready to devour anyone.
Adira watched him display, and she laughed. "Calm down. It's not that serious. She didn't touch me, just words." Adira dragged Brayan's hand to sit him down.
"You still have to tell me who she is. The fact that she wasn't alone means she might fight you next time."
"Okay, my protector!" They laughed, enjoying the moment as it lasted and drawing closer to the dangers that lurked around.
