Chapter 6, The Spy:
By the time Della’s disappearance had been conveyed to the man, the trail sat cold. A trail of broken bodies stretched behind him all the way from the mayor’s laundry, though he felt the mastermind of the plot had evaded his reach.
The Spy, currently known as Count Felspar, had no familial attachment with his diminutive quarry, but he liked her. She had a personality he could grow to love, given a chance, and as his employer, he felt a certain obligation to save her if possible, to exact revenge if not.
Her disappearance had been his first real lead into the cause of so much death happening in the city. Through aggressive questioning techniques, he’d learned the group responsible for her kidnapping was probably involved with the poisoning and the market attack.
