Erika came home with her own stress and problems, so Austin put on a pleasant but concerned face and only said, “It was alright,” when she asked him about his time with Neil.
“Ugh, I am going to be so happy when we take our vacation,” she said. “I need to get away for a while.”
Austin’s guilt settled deeper into his chest. They were so close to a nice couple’s weekend together. For all he knew, that could have erased all the thoughts of Neil from his mind. If he had been patient, things might have been so much better. Erika was always telling him to stop and think before he acted. Without that advice, he had done damage that could take weeks, months, or even years to fix.
