Chapter 3

Evan went to Aliya’s house the next morning after giving her tons of calls and texts but she had replied none and only left a lousy text, telling him that she already returned to her family. His heart sank deeply when he got home the text and anger stirred within him. His pride was hurt. He had met Aliya two years ago and was intrigued by her beauty which was unlike any other he had seen before. It took him some time but he finally got her to be his girlfriend. A few weeks into their relationship, he tried having s*x with her but was shocked when she turned him down and told him that she was wanted her first to be her fated mate. He became the laughing stock of all his other werewolf friends who saw him as a weakling who couldn’t have s*x with a girl. He made a bet to have s*x with her before their three years anniversary only for him to find out that she was going back to her parent’s country. He knew that it was a way of telling him that she wanted to break up with him but he wasn’t going to let her go without first tasting her body. She was the only girl who had denied him and he was hell bent on proving his buddies wrong. So, here he was, Infront of her house. Since the door was locked, he had to go through the trouble of breaking in. But, that wasn’t a problem for him as he was a soon to be Alpha. He matched to her empty room and began searching for clues that might tell him of her whereabouts and just when he was about giving up, he found it in her wardrobe. It was an old picture of her and her family with some strange people around. “I’ve got you, Aliya.” He smiled and hurried to his car. Evan strolled into his mansion, ignoring the greetings from his other pack members. His expression told them that he was in no mood for a conversation and no one dared to question. He was the only surviving heir to the pack, after all. “Get me everything you can find about this picture. I want to know where she is also.” He slammed the picture on the desk on Zayn, his soon to be gamma and walked to his room. * * “Oh my goodness, Aliya!” Her aunt, Melissa screamed as soon as she stepped out the car. Jayden had earlier informed them that he would be bringing Aliya with him so they were all expecting her. Aliya ran and gave them both bone crushing hugs as tears fell from her eyes. “I have missed you both so much!” She squealed and Jayden took it as his cue to leave. He had barely taken a few steps when his phone chimed. “Meet me at the study.” The text read from his father and his chest tightened. He already knew what his father wanted to talk about and now that Aliya had arrived, it made things even worse for him. “Dad.” He greeted as soon as he entered the study. His father, Julian Cage, the Lycan king sat beside his table, typing away on his laptop that he barely noticed Jayden’s presence. Julian finished up with his work and shut his laptop down before turning to face his son. “Elder Elijah stopped by yesterday.” He revealed and Jayden groaned, taking a seat on the sofa. He could already tell what the discussion would be centered on at the mention of Elder Elijah’s name. “I’m sorry, son but this time around, I agree with him.” Julian said, looking Jayden in the eye. “You will be twenty five soon which is long past the age for you to have gotten a mate. I don’t know why you have refused to mark one of the ladies I and your mother have recommended for you.” As Julian began to speak, Jayden balled his first in anger. He knew that there was no escape route this time around. “Dad. You didn’t mark a mate so why do I need to mark one? You were given a mate from the moon goddess which is why your relationship with mum is exceptional. I already said this before but I won’t be marking just any girl as my mate.” He replied, his thoughts travelling to Aliya as he remembered the mate pull he felt when he saw her at the club. But, he couldn’t tell her yet because of her stupid boyfriend. “I don’t think you understand how serious this is. You are the crowned prince of the Lycan Kingdom! It is your responsibility to choose a mate before your 25th birthday! It’s either you do that or you lose your position.” Julian threatened, already frustrated with his son. The last thing he wanted was for his bloodline to be kicked out of the throne because his son was unable to take a mate. “You have eight months, Jayden. It’s either you find yourself a mate or you pray to the moon goddess to bless you with one. If none of that happens, you’ll get mated to a woman of my choice and it is final!” Julian finished and walked out of the room. * * “Miss Aliya is back… but I hear that she has a werewolf boyfriend. Isn’t that unfair to the Lycan Kingdom? King Julian has been taking care of her family. Isn’t it right for her to choose a mate from one of us?” One of the maids gossiped and the others nodded, their hearts harboring hatred for Aliya. It had been barely two days since she returned and rumours were already beginning to spread that she had joined hands with the werewolves after spending ten years with them. This was bad for Jayden because now, he couldn’t even bring up the topic of being mated to Aliya as he would also be seen an accomplice. “You should have listened to me when I warned you not to school in Paris, Aliya! We’re about to get kicked out of the Lycan Kingdom because of you!” Nolan, her father said angrily as he paced around the room. “They are only my friends, Dad! None of them knows about me living in the Lycan Kingdom. They have no idea who I am!” She screamed in frustration. “It doesn’t matter. They have your pictures and can find you whenever.” Nolan replied, holding himself from raising his voice at his daughter. Her mother had been with Melissa since the news of Aliya’s return got to the ears of the people in the Lycan Kingdom. She couldn’t believe how they could turn their backs on them so easily for such baseless reason. “Aliya has to lie low for now, Grace. I am telling you because the same thing happened to me twenty three years ago. She needs to give them a proper explanation and ensure them that she won’t betray them.” Melissa advised and Grace nodded. “Wait. I think there’s a way to come out of all of this.” Grace said, turning to Melissa with a small smile. “Goodness! Why didn’t I think of this before now?” She squealed, making Melissa even more curious. “Since it is only because of her werewolf boyfriend they think she has joined hands with the werewolves, getting her mated to a Lycan will solve everything.” Grace suggested and Melissa’s eyes widened, seeing sense in what Grace had said. “It might be hard for her but that is the only way out. She has to get mated to a Lycan.” Grace said. Jayden finished his training and hurried home, knowing that things were not okay. When he got to the palace, he matched to Aliya’s room without even placing a knock on the door and he was surprised to see her on a call. He instantly became angry as he thought that she was talking with her boyfriend. Without even saying any word to her, he snatched her phone from her hands and ended the call. “What the f**k is wrong with you?!” She screamed in annoyance, attempting to retrieve her phone but it was to no avail. “Return the phone.” She warned, holding her hands out so that he could place the phone back there but he didn’t budge. “I do not have the time for this, Jayden.. As you can see my life is about to become a mess and I am not in my right senses, so please, get out of my room before I do something we’ll both regret.” She said. “Are you clueless or you’re just pretending?” He asked, taking her by surprise as she wondered what he was referring to. He knew very well that she had a wolf as her parents had traveled down to Paris on her eighteenth birthday and returned with the good news. If she already had a wolf, it meant that she was able to sense the mate pull but for some reason, she hadn’t said anything about it. It was either she knew and was deliberately ignoring it or, her parents lied about her having a wolf and she was wolfless. So, Jayden decided to check for himself. ‘Call her out.’ He instructed his wolf, Jax as he moved closer to her. “What are you doing?” She said, feeling uncomfortable under Jayden’s intense gaze. A few minutes later, Jax returned and from his foul mood, Jayden knew that things weren’t good. “There’s a problem. Our mate doesn’t have a wolf. She can’t sense us.”
