But five minutes went by, ten minutes... It was already dark and the wind was picking up. I missed it!
"Oh noooo. God, why do you do this to me? You know, what it means to walk those five kilometers home? Why couldn't the bus just come a minute later? Why did it have to go so early today!" I was talking to the heavens because nothing and no one would be able to help me now.
"Ohhh." I breathed out, my head hanged down and I slowly started walking on the sidewalk next to the road to get home. If I walk at the usual speed of four to five kilometers an hour, I should get home before nine. I wanted to visit grandma in the hospital today... Guess I'll have to go tomorrow early morning before school starts. Hope she isn't too worried I didn't come. I checked the time on my phone while slowly taking more and more steps forward.
"Seriously?! Like... seriously?! Are you freakin serious?!" My phone died. It ran out of battery. Well, who could blame it for being old and the battery run down? But at this point? I hope grandma doesn't call me now. What if she thinks that someone kidnapped me?! Hope not. She shouldn't stress herself out. I looked up again to see dark clouds running in the sky. I small water drop dripped on my face. Another one.
"Even rain now? Really?! What else do you have up the sleeve for me now! Just let the lightning and thunder come as well!" I was yelling at the sky, giving up on my today's fate.
Guess I'll have to walk faster and find a shelter under the trees. I shouldn't be out for too long if the rain gets any bigger. The evenings are getting colder.
I took up the speed, walking fast, making my steps longer. Someone had to stay healthy to take care of the household. But even so, this moment had its own magic. The leaves were about to turn yellow and the sound of raindrops falling on them made me relaxed. Even though I had to run home, it was a situation worth going through. It filled me with many feelings and inspiration, which I could use for some of the future assignments. I was holding my school bag above my head while trying to run to the safer areas under the trees.
"Thank god for the person, who decided to plant trees along this long drive to the school gate! But at the same time... who would have thought they would build this school so far from the town?! Were they supposed to learn to farm before?" I took a breather under a structure, which looked like a run-down gazebo. The roof was leaking and it was all encompassed with ivy. Even though it looked so ancient and neglected, everything around here was just an experience and a piece of canvas for me to draw later. My clothes were already a bit soaked and the rain didn't look like it would stop anytime soon. The whole place was empty. There were no cars passing on the road, no students, people... No one. The rain drops were drumming on the leaves, the run-down roof of the gazebo, the ground. The sound of rain was just so relaxing and anguishing at the same time!
"The sad life of living far from the school..." I sighed again, picking up the bag and thrusting it above my head again.
"Here we goooo!" I ran out of the gazebo to the wet shower I was about to get.
Benjamin
"Hey, Ben, how about a party tonight? I know a pretty good place! I have been going there recently and it seems pretty fun!" Rex was all about partying again. Did he ever study?
"No, dude, thanks. Do you think the scholarship monster missed her bus?" I asked all the members of the student council, who were present. I was staring out of the window, which was getting whipped with the shower rains.
"Yeah, definitely. I heard that Alice went to the French witch to remind her that the scholarship low-class was supposed to come to her office and instead went to the classroom to work on her assignment. Alice also said that she was so into the painting thing that she didn't even notice them speaking out loud behind the door. She's a complete weirdo. I wonder what the headmaster was thinking, letting her into this school. She doesn't have anything - money, manners, visage..." Rex was always about three things when it came to girls, they had to be the lookers, have money, and be well-behaved. He liked the obedient kind of girls, who would do completely anything for him.
"Wait, Alice even went as far as to stalk her?" I turned to him from the window. I caught Rex trying to eat as many grapes from the tassel he was holding up high as he could at once. His head was bent backward and he was holding the tassel of grapes above his wide-open mouth.
"Yeah! I mean... What Alice wouldn't do, right?" Rex shrugged and continued in his stupid activity.
"Nathan, what do you think about it?" I asked the guy, who had been silent this whole time. He was reading some book again. Did he never get tired of them? It was just letters on pieces of paper, words on lines, nothing interesting!
"Well, does it even matter what I think? I believe you made your opinion about it. But at the same time, I think that you should use the necessary means to get her out, as you said, by the end of the week. You should ask yourself, what is still all right and what is not. I believe that we should not cause harm around us, but we don't need to try to stop others' malice." Again with his wise answers. Is he getting all of these stupidities from his books? He should really stop reading them or he'll turn into an educational software soon enough!
We heard knocking on the door to the student council club room. Nobody usually came here this late in the evening, when it was just us few. Charles was probably sleeping in one of the classrooms and Michael was sitting at the desk doing some important paperwork as always. Other students and helpers of the Student Council were doing their club activities or had already headed home.
"Enter!" I called out loud, so the person on the other side of the door would be able to hear me. The door opened slowly and a girl wearing our uniform with dirty blond hair tied with a big red bowtie on the back of her head entered. It was no one else but Alice.
"Do I have the permission to speak?" She asked after she carefully and quietly closed the door behind her.
"Go ahead." I showed her to the empty armchair, which was on the opposite side of the coffee table. Rex was, as always, occupying the whole sofa, and Nathan was reading his book in the background, in his favorite reading armchair.
"I went to the French teacher to talk to her about the examination of the newcomer." Her voice went bitter at the last word she said. I nodded my head to let her continue. I heard Michael's chair creak as he leaned against the backrest to listen to our conversation.
"And it turned out the... decided that she will talk back to our teacher. Of course, miss Dupont wanted to take her to the principal for misbehavior, yet, she resisted and didn't go!" Her outrage was clearly visible with the tone she was speaking. No wonder Rex liked her. Her body wasn't bad, her face was cute and she had the manners. Does she have the money though? I peeked at Rex, he was either pretending to not care at all, or he was just too busy eating the grapes.
"I believe that she will be out of the school by tomorrow for misbehavior." She ended her speech, feeling proud of herself.
"And if she doesn't, as it looks like the headmaster is quite fond of her... We, as the student council, will make sure of that," Rex finally spoke up, looking confident in his words and more interested in our conversation. At least once he wasn't all about party, gossip, or nonsense.
"Alice, you may leave. We need to discuss things. Thank you for your efforts." I sent her away. I didn't need her to stay here any longer and keep listening to what we were talking about in the council. But she didn't seem to budge. I looked at her again. Why is she still here? I already told her to go, she doesn't even need to do anything here anymore. And she keeps staring at her hands on her legs.
"I would like to speak to Rex. Could I ask you to go with me outside?" Now she sounded quite shy.
"Why?" And Rex didn't care about anything at all. He was probably still busy with thinking about how to eat as many grapes at once as possible. For him, when he wasn't interested in conversation, nothing would get solved.
"Well... I would... I would like to speak to you." She was getting strange. I looked up at Rex, who was standing behind me. He seriously didn't get the situation at all.
"Just go. Five minutes." I said and crossed my legs. I needed quiet time to think about our next plan and steps.
"Just go Rex, it's getting too loud here. I can't focus on reading. You're annoying." Nathan was cold as ever. And now he sounded overly-annoyed for his usual tranquil personality. Guess he got to a good part in the book and he wanted to enjoy it as much as he could. That bookworm!
"Fine, fine! Let's go, kitten." Rex took her around her shoulders, making his voice softer while speaking to her and walked out of the room, with the door slamming behind them.
"Nathan, what do you think?" I asked him, not even needing to turn around. He was silent. The rain wasn't stopping and it was getting quite late. We had to come up with a plan before tomorrow morning, so we could bring it to the headmaster right after the scholarship creature would be called in. I wanted to see her haggard face after getting at least a penalty, if not detention. From that, there was only a tiny step to getting kicked out.
"By the end of the week, we'll have it done. If not even sooner!" I stretched and yawned. This was way too easy. I checked if Michael was still listening. But he was busy scribbling things with the pen on papers. Guess he isn't as interested in her.
