My palms are sweating as I wait beyond the curtain. The ceremony is held in the banquet hall, it is the grandest of events. All pack members must attend and black tie is compulsory.
The music quiets so I know the time is soon.
I run a hand over my dress again. It is perfect!
I did dark smoky eye makeup before adding a line of gold eyeliner. My shoes and bag are black.
I hear the crowd quiet next before Drakos begins to speak. “Thank you for gathering here this evening. An Alphas job is to look after their pack, but it can be a lonely job too. I am pleased to have finally met my beautiful mate, your Luna.” There is a short applause before they grow quiet again. “I would like to welcome Elder Cottrell, who will be conducting the ceremony for us this evening.”
Drakos steps from behind the curtain to join me. “Ready darling?” He strokes a hand down my cheek. “You look stunning by the way.”
I nod and try to smile but I am sure it comes out uneasy. Drakos places a kiss on my forehead and then we stand hand in hand waiting.
The curtain slowly begins to pull back and Drakos squeezes my hand in support.
“Alpha Drakos and Luna Cleo,” Elder Cottrell announces to the pack.
We step forward and turn to face the Elder. He holds out a glass toward us. Drakos takes it first before drinking from it. He then passes it to me and I do the same.
The Elder nods to Drakos and he turns to me. He gently swipes hair off my shoulder before leaning forward. He inhales and presses a soft kiss to my throat. I gulp at the sensation and feel him smile against my skin before pulling back a little.
“I Alpha Drakos, accept you Cleo as my goddess given mate. I lay claim,” he announces before biting me. As his teeth sink in my throat I feel a current zap through me followed by unconfined pleasure. A moan escapes my mouth before Drakos removes his teeth and licks the wound. As he stands back his eyes are the gold of his wolf and his grin is huge. My own grin rivals his as I watch my mate with awe.
‘Mine’ a voice coos in my head and I jump in surprise.
Drakos smiles at me softly before telling the pack to enjoy the celebrations. He leads me from the stage and into a private room.
‘I am your wolf Cleo, my name is Surie. I am a direct descendant of Luna, moon goddess.’
I stand with my mouth agape as I register what she has said. Direct descendant of Luna.
LUNA!
And then I burst out laughing. Clearly my wolf has a cracking sense of humour.
I have the sensation of her rolling her eyes, ‘I am not joking Cleo.’
“Everything okay baby?” Drakos softly strokes my cheek and they immediately heat as I realise he is watching me.
‘Mateeee’ Surie purrs.
“Yes sorry, I just- erm. My wolf’s name is Surie,” I give him the only information that makes sense right now.
His smile brightens again, “I can’t wait to meet her later.” He pulls me into his embrace. “Would you like to go back out for a bit? My parents are eager to see you.” He leaves it open for me to choose.
“Sure, I haven’t seen your parents for a while.” I tell him with a smile and take his hand.
“I keep forgetting you know my family so well,” he laughs with a shake of his head. “I guess that is a good thing.”
We get back into the banquet hall and everyone begins to applaud.
Issy reaches us first before pulling me into a hug. “Officially my sister now!”
She moves to hug Drakos and Josiah pulls me into a hug. He doesn’t say anything to me though, just moves on to hug Drakos next too.
“Alpha and Luna,” I bow my head at Drakos’ parents. They may not be the current leaders but it is polite to still use the title for them.
“Cleo dear,” his mother pulls me into an embrace. “Please call us Marion and Jason. I am so happy to see you mated to one of my boys.”
I step back from the hug and Jason kisses my hand. “You look beautiful, I trust Drake has been treating you well?”
I nod with a smile, “he is amazing.”
“Who is amazing?” Drakos asks as he steps beside me again. He kisses his mother’s cheek before shaking hands with his father.
“Oh no one dear,” his mother covers for me but I feel Drakos tense a little.
‘Mate is jealous’
“Hey Cleo,” Ricky says as he approaches from the side.
“Hey,” I give him a small wave.
“I managed to get some notes copied from the few classes you missed.” He tells me with odd excitement. “Will you be at school tomorrow? I can pass them to you then.”
“Sure,” I nod at him.
There is an awkward silence and I suddenly realise I have not introduced Drakos.
“Ricky this is Alpha Drakos, Drakos this is my friend Ricky. We are partners for a few classes.” I explain over my shoulder.
Drakos holds a hand out to Ricky and they shake.
“It is nice to meet you Alpha,” Ricky says politely but seems uncomfortable. He soon excuses his self and I loose him in the crowd.
