Alpha Drakos practically growls at Harmony. “Can we help you?” She reigns in her glare and plasters on a smile for the Alpha. “Sorry Alpha. I was coming to see if you wanted some company. There are better options available than…” she gestures toward me. I bite back a scoff at her audacity. “Really?” Alpha Drakos asks and my heart starts to beat faster. Is this the moment he rejects me? “I am not sure there is a better option than-“ he pulls me ever closer. “My mate.” Harmony really gapes this time. “Her? How can she be your mate? She is a nobody.” Alpha Drakos does growl this time as he steps toward Harmony. Her head drops in submission. “How dare you insult not only my mate but your future Luna.” “I’m so sorry Alpha.” She rushes the words out in an attempt to calm the situation. He steps toward her again still furious. I step in his path instead and grasp hold of his hands. “Hey it’s okay,” I reassure him and direct his eyes back to me. He seems to calm instantly and pulls me into his embrace. Harmony scurries away down the hall. I wait until she is gone before speaking. “She is right to be surprised, doubtful even.” I say and the Alpha pulls back to look at me, “I mean look at me Alpha Drakos. I am weak.” He shakes his head at me. “First off, do not call me Alpha. You are my mate, my equal. You can address me by my name. And second, you are not weak Cleo. Everyone possesses strength in a different way. The goddess would not have matched us if she did not believe you are right for me and for our pack.” He strokes a hand down my face. “Now let’s get out of here. No more excuses about school.” - I take slow strides to begin on the treadmill and Issy gives me an encouraging nod. I spent the afternoon in Drakos’ office with him until Issy got home. She decided we should start doing some extra fitness training. The door opens and Josiah walks in. “Ladies,” he says cheerfully and appears to be back to his teasing self. Only his eyes are different, avoidant. He sets up on the weights and begins his own workout. After thirty minutes on the treadmill I head over to Issy as she starts on a stepping block. I decide to practice some punches next. My T-shirt is soaked with sweat already so I pull it off and leave it by my drink. My sports bra matches work out shorts so it’s fine. I spot the bruise on my side in the mirror, it is fading against my skin now. I slide on some boxing gloves and start hitting the bag. I begin a light rhythm of steady hits. I find myself actually enjoying this. I stop to slide my earphones in and press play on the music before punching again. I hit the bag a few more times before a hand touches my arm. I turn to look at Josiah as he pulls out one of my earphones. “You are going to injure your hand if you keep hitting it like that.” He demonstrates how to hold his fist before hitting the bag. I try to copy his movement and he nods in approval. He steps behind me and starts repositioning my shoulders, then moves my foot slightly. Just as the door opens and a growl rips through the room. Josiah is still squatting down by my legs as we turn to see Drakos storming toward us. He seems totally lost in rage and his gaze is set on Josiah. He opens his mouth and his teeth have elongated, tremors start to wrack his body. “He is going to shift,” Josiah gasps in horror. That kicks my brain into gear and my feet move. I make it to Drakos and intercept his pursuit on Josiah. “Hey,” I touch a hand touches his face as he goes to move around me. He halts and his eyes land on me. “Hey, where have you been?” He blinks again as his teeth retract and the angry haze wears off. His heated eyes take in my outfit and darken in a different way this time. A throat clears before Issy speaks. “Please don’t forget we are here. I would rather not watch a make out sesh.” I smirk at her and shake my head. Drakos wraps an arm around my waist as he turns to Josiah. “I’m sorry Josiah, my wolf lost it when he saw you so close to Cleo like that.” He rubs a hand down his face with regret. I wrap my arms around him in a side embrace. Josiah shakes his head, “I’m sorry too, I was just trying to show her how to punch. I didn’t want her to hurt her wrists.” The brothers both nod at each other in a silent dismissal of the incident. “I need to go shower,” I announce and start turning Drakos away. I think some distance would do them both good. “Issy I will catch up with you later.”
