Awake

Ethan POV: My eyes snapped open and I took a deep breath of air, it was like this entire time, I was under water holding my breath. Selena was kneeling in front of me, her eyes were glassy as her hand was placed over my heart. I wanted to reach out and stroke her face, the warm glow from the fire place was making her look out of this world. "Son!" Exclaimed my father, rushing towards me, "you're awake!" I pushed myself up into a sitting position, "what's wrong with Selena?" I asked as I took her hand in mine, my father eyed our contact with disgust, "your mother will be very happy to hear of your good health." "Father, I'm leaving. I'm taking Selena and we are going far from here." My words seemed to catch him off guard and then Selena stood up, her movements all robotic and walked towards the fire. "You're the future Alpha Ethan-" my father was in shock, he didn't expect this and I felt tired already. "Yes, alpha to a pack that has tortured my mate for years and was willing to sell her off to some demon!" I growled in frustration, did he not see anything wrong with his actions!? "You wouldn't understand!" Snapped my father, turning away from me and rubbing his temples. "You don't seem to understand-" "This is pathetic!" He shouted over me and I felt myself revert to the obedient son I was used to being, "you think you can throw away everything that your mother and I built?" His arms swung wildly at everything around us, "it must be so easy to give up something you never sacrificed for!" "I didn't ask you to sacrifice anything!" I screamed. "You didn't have to! It's what you do when you become a father!" Shouted my father back at me. In that moment, the door opened and my mother pushed her way in, "August," she said before noticing me up and well, "Ethan!" She gushed and ran to me, wrapping her arms around me like she had done a million times. "How do you feel!?" She asked as she cupped my face and searched for some visible mark of weakness or sickness. "I'm fine," I said pulling her hands away from my face, "what's wrong?" She asked hurt by my sudden need for distance. "I'm leaving with Selena." I kept my chin up but I couldn't look my mother in her eyes. The pain she might exhibit might be enough for me to back down and please my parents as always. "Do you hear the rubbish your son is spitting!?" Spat my father, "she must of bewitched him!" He growled and then it seemed that he remembered that Selena was still in the room, standing by the fire. He stormed towards her and grabbed her hard, the black thing in her hand fell into the fire and the fire crackled and spat and it was all that was needed to bring her back to focus. "What's going on!?" She asked, obviously frightened by my father's closeness. I pushed myself off the couch and in no time, I was standing next to her. "Let go of my mate!" I growled, ready to fight my father to the death. "Ethan!" Shouted my mother as she stood up, "stop this! Right now!" "No!" I shouted back, "I am leaving with her!" I growled as I wrapped my hand tightly around Selena's wrist, my father stared daggers at me as he tightened his own grip on her. "Stop!" Shouted my mother, "August!" She screamed as she pulled his hand off of Selena, who stood silently watching. "I think this is enough from both of you!" My mother looked from me to my father, willing one of us to see reason. "August, please, let us rather talk about this privately," she begged, my father gave a slow nod and I pulled Selena closer to me. "I won't be changing my mind-" "That's fine," interjected my mother, "Selena is your mate and you have every reason to be with her!" She exclaimed. I was taken aback by her acceptance of the situation and found myself rendered speechless. "Take her and go to your room, lets have breakfast tomorrow morning and we can discuss how to move forward. I understand that you want to leave with your mate but I would like to see you marry," my mother's eyes filled with tears at her words. "Can we please talk tomorrow?" She asked, I looked at Selena and her beautiful eyes stared back at me, I looked to my mother and nodded. "One breakfast couldn't hurt." She clasped her hands together and let out a warm laugh, "thank you! Now off you two love birds go!" She teased as she chased us out. When the doors shut behind us, I looked to Selena, who had grown shy and unusually quiet. "Selena, you're my mate." I needed to admit it to her, she blushed at my words, "I don't feel the mate bond yet but I feel that you're telling the truth," she whispered, I lifted her face to look at me but I was distracted by her plump pink lips, "I want to kiss you." She parted her lips and let out a breath, "I would like that," she breathed out and I slowly leaned in and brushed my lips against her as she wrapped her arms around my neck and pressed her body into mine.
