“Kayla.” “Wake up.” Raine’s soft voice urged. “Go away, Raine,” Kayla mumbled, pulling her blanket over her head. “The Village. It’s on fire.” Kayla’s body went cold. “What are you talking about?” Kayla mumbled into her pillow. “Kayla, we have to get out of here,” Raine whispered. She threw the blanket off of her and rolled over to look at Raine. “Listen, if this is your way of making me leave with you it’s not going to work.” Raine gave her a hurtful look. “I’m not. Please listen to me. The village is on fire.” Tears welled up in Raine’s eyes. Kayla huffed and decided to play Raine’s game. She got up from her bed and stalked over to the window. She hissed when her hands touched the window frame. It was burning hot. Her eyes widened when she took in the burning village. “We have to tell mom and dad.” Kayla insisted, running for the door but Raine cut her off and shut the door. “It’s too late.” She told her. Kayla looked at her sister, trying to grasp what was going on. “The council took away my powers and cast me out because of mom and dad.” Kayla frowned at her sister. “No! That’s not true. You denied what you are, Raine. I’ve seen you kissing that villager boy. You can’t be with him because of your bound.” Raine narrowed her eyes at her sister. “Kayla! Raine!” Kayla whirled around when she heard her mother’s voice. “We are in here!” She called. She pushed the door open and was startled to find their house on fire. Her mother ran up the stairs towards them, she threw them inside and shut the door behind her. “What’s happening?” Kayla asked her mother. “Villagers are attacking our village.” Kayla looked at her sister. “We need to get out of here. Dad is outside with the others trying to stop the fire and villagers.” “No!” Raine yelled, her eyes wide from horror. “He can’t kill him, he had nothing to do with this.” Raine protested. Her mother grasps Raine in her arms to silence her. “Let’s just get out of here. Edna and the rest of the wizards are on their way to help us.” Her mother said, blowing out the window with her magic powers. She carried Raine with her while Kayla had to climb out on her own. Her skin shivered as she watched the fire around them caging them in. “Dad!!” She yelled when she saw him nearing the house, riding his horse. “Throw Raine to me.” He yelled at their mother. Raine screamed as she flew through the air before landing safely in their dad’s hands. Her mother turned to her. She unclipped a necklace from behind her neck and clasped it around her neck. “It’s your ruby,” Kayla observed. “Listen to me.” She looked at her mother. “I need you to remember who you are. Don’t trust anyone besides your bounded mate. Never deny who and what you are. Follow the prophecy and you will find your path.” Kayla looked at her mother and felt as if this was a goodbye. “I love you, Kayla.” Her mother gave her a hug before she pushed her off the roof of their house. Kayla screamed as she watched the house catching flames around her mother and heard her cries of agony. “Nooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!” Kayla came up screaming and throwing her hands in the air. A ball of fire erupted from her hands and blew a hole right through her roof. Her body shuddered as she realized that this time it was her dream that woke her. She looked at the big hole in her roof that she created. “Shit.” She mumbled. She got up from her bed and heard thunderous footsteps nearing her hut. “Kayla?” “I’m fine.” She called back, dragging her hand through her hair. “What was that explosion?” The voice outside her hut asked. “An experiment of my powers.” She muttered.  She wasn’t going to live this one day easily. They already saw her as a threat and using her magic like this while having a nightmare wasn’t a good sign.  The world around her became unstable. She swayed on her feet and she coughed from dust inhalation. Frowning she looked up at the roof but then her world slowly disintegrated until she found herself standing in a room that wasn’t hers. The walls crumbled. The roof was shattered and the whole room was covered in what was left. She heard a cough followed by a sound of rubble moving. She squinted her eyes when she thought she recognized the face. “Raine?” Raine’s shoulders tensed as if she heard Kayla’s voice. “Kayla?” She whispered back. Pushing herself up but winced when she found a piece of wood piercing into her skin. Kayla scrambled over the rubble to get to her sister. She placed her hand over Raine’s when she wanted to pull out the object.  “Don’t” Kayla warned and she found her sister looking at her. She might not see Kayla but she heard her voice. “It’s really you,” Raine whispered. Kayla nodded. “You are alive,” Kayla said cupping her face in her hands. “I thought you were dead.” Raine's voice was weak. Kayla jolted when she suddenly heard footsteps and voices. Men dressed in armour carrying guns entered the room. “Byron,” Raine whispered. Kayla looked at her sister. “They want Byron,” Raine said softly, gesturing to his body that was lying not so far from hers. Kayla controlled the urge to scream when she didn’t see him moving. “Save your strength,” Kayla told her sister before crawling over to his unmoving body. She couldn’t do much because she wasn’t really there. Using a bit of her magic she pushed the rubble away from him without alerting the intruders. She was going to deal with them later on. “Byron.” She whispered, trying to connect with him through her telepathy. She reached out and touched his forehead. She needed him to react just to show her if he was alive and not badly injured. He whined softly and she relaxed. “Byron.” She tried again. “Open your eyes.” She urged watching the men getting closer. His eyes fluttered open and his forehead creased. He coughed from the dust and his face twisted. His hand immediately reached for his side. She saw blood oozing out and pressed her hand to his side. She just needed to close the wound until she can get to him. She smiled slightly when she felt him jerk when the magic started doing its work.  She clenched her hands into fists when the men neared. Her power coiled through her veins into her hands. There was nothing she could do to save him from them.  She heard Byron’s cry as she watched the men pull him out of the rubble. She grasps his hand and forced her way into his mind. “Hold on. I’m coming to get you.” His eyes widened slightly and she watched him trying to clench onto her hand as if he felt her. She heard her sister’s cry when they found her too. “Who is this?” One of the men asked. “No, idea. She could be a witness. The boss wants no witnesses.” Kayla jumped up when she watched the guy pointing his gun at her. “Wait!” A voice ordered. Kayla watched the bloodied man walking over to him. “The boss would want to see her. She tried to save him.” Raine showed no ounce of fear when they pulled her up. She was staring directly at Kayla as if she could see her. “I will find you.” She promised Raine as she watched them dragging her out. She heard another growl and watched the bloodied man pointing his gun at someone. “It’s all your fault that Tait is still alive,” Kayla growled. With her magic, she picked up a piece of rubble and smacked the guy against the head. She watched him stumble. He pointed his gun in the air, his eyes wide when he didn’t see her. She smirked. The guy lowered his weapon and looked at the piece of rubble lying on the ground that she used to hit him against the head with. “Dunn! Come on! The cops are on the way.” The man they called Dunn looked at the other man. “This is not over, Kendrick.” He whirled around and ran out. Kendrick’s was badly injured. She felt the soft beat of his pulse. This is not going to do her any good but she couldn’t let the man die who tried to save Byron. He might know something that could help her save Byron and her sister. She crouched down in front of the man. Pressed her hand to his forehead and reached for her healing powers. He made a sound before passing out. She waited until people ran into the building to make sure they found him.  She then left the scene to get back to her world. She softly gasps when she found Edna in her room, staring at her with two eyes filled with worry. “Raine.” Kayla choked with a cough, pushing herself upright with the help of Edna. Edna pressed her hand to Kayla’s chest easing the suffocating feeling on her chest. “Raine is alive.” She said when she could breathe. Edna’s eyes widened from shock. “She’s badly hurt and taken with Byron. I need to go find them.”
