Chapter 14 Amber's Scheme

848 Words
It was chilly in the morning of early spring. Lynnsey left the two kids to Tanya before heading to the cemetery alone. When she was about to walk out, Liam suddenly stopped her, "Mommy, be careful." He frowned tightly, his little face was filled with worries. Somehow, he got a bad feeling about Lynnsey's leaving. Lynnsey smiled at him and said, "It will be okay. I will be back as soon as possible." She didn't tell Liam she was going to the cemetery, because she didn't want Liam to know that he had two older brothers who died at birth. The death of her two babies was the secret she decided to bury in her heart for the rest of her life. Lynnsey drove the car Tanya had arranged for her and headed for the cemetery. It took Lynnsey more than an hour to reach the destination since the cemetery was located in the remote suburb of East Plergant. When she got out of the car, she saw Amber walking towards her in a long black dress. "You make it, Lynn." Amber looked sad, but in Lynnsey's eyes, she was crying crocodile tears. Lynnsey didn't want to waste her time with this hypocrite woman, and said coldly, "Show me the way." "Did you come alone?" Amber asked and looked behind Lynnsey. "You think?" Lynnsey said light. She had been away from East Plergant for four years, and also her friends in this city. The only one who still cared about her and wanted to protect her was Tanya. But she wouldn't take Tanya here to break her heart. Amber was delighted, and she hid her emotions well. She sighed, "We thought you were dead, Lynn. So we put up three tombstones for you and your poor babies. Since you left, Dad cried every day. You have no idea how happy he was when he knew that you were still alive." "Really? Then why didn't he come to see me with you today?" Lynnsey retorted, exposing Amber's lies. Amber froze, but she lowered her head and pretended to wave tears on the corner of her eyes. "Dad got too excited last night, causing his blood pressure to rise quickly. I sent him to the hospital for a physical examination early this morning because I didn't want him to lose control when he saw you today. Let's get to the hospital to see him later, okay?" Lynnsey said nothing as if she hadn't heard what Amber said. Amber didn't feel embarrassed at all. She led the way and brought Lynnsey into the cemetery along the main road. As soon as they got into the ceremony, Amber said in a low voice, "You know what, in East Plergant City, newborn babies are not allowed to be buried in this cemetery. Dad had to pull some strings to find you and my nephews a good place. You see the corner over there? Hurry up, Lynn." She walked ahead, and Lynnsey followed behind with a cold look on her face. The two of them walked deeper into the cemetery until they reached somewhere covered with weeds. Amber didn't stop and kept walking. "Wait." Lynnsey stopped and said, "Where are you taking me to?" Amber looked back with a smile, "To the graves of your children." Lynnsey sneered, "We've already walked out of the cemetery. What do you want to do? I don't have time to waste on you." "What are you talking about? I just don't remember the way. Be patient, Lynn. We are getting close." Amber cursed in her heart. This stupid b***h just couldn't do as she said, could she? Lynnsey could tell that Amber was up to something. She was not what she used to be anymore. She agreed to come with Amber today only because she wanted to find the tombstones of her kids. But obviously, Amber wasn't a woman of her word. In that way, there was no need for Lynnsey to waste time here anymore. Lynnsey directly turned around and was about to leave. "Hey, where are you going, Lynn? The tombstones are just right ahead, less than a hundred meters away from us." Amber panicked. However, Lynnsey didn't stop. She could ask the staff of the cemetery about the location, or find it out on her own. She didn't have to be entangled with someone like Amber at all. Amber gritted her teeth. She had planned everything and she wouldn't allow her plan in vain. At the thought of it, she narrowed her eyes and raised her hand. The next moment, Lynnsey heard the rustling sound around. It sounded like they had company. The road was empty along the way they got here. But the footsteps she heard seemed to belong to more than a dozen people. Was this what Amber was up to? She tried to burn Lynnsey to death four years ago. Now she could play the same trick again. Otherwise, how would she agree to bring Lynnsey to the cemetery? Instantly, Lynnsey turned around and rushed to Amber, grabbing her slender neck hard.
