Chapter 10

Drake’s POV- After walking Elisa back to the palace, Kenneth and I headed to his dad's house. We were going to hold the council meeting in the basement of the house his father was staying in. I was also going to meet with Mr Hemming afterwards, to discuss the plan for the palace for the dragon royal family. I think I will have to get him to include a chamber for the council meetings. Once we arrived at Magnus’ house, all the council members were there with glasses of water in hand for themselves, and Kenneth and I. Magnus were kind enough to set up a table with chairs, so that we could sit and discuss important matters. I took my seat at the head of the table, as any king should, with Kenneth sitting to my right. The other council members piled on to the chairs. They all looked nervous. There has never been a council before, and I can understand they are probably nervous about being on the first ever council. I nodded to each of them, with a smile, “Now, I know you are probably all nervous about this first meeting, and what your responsibilities are. If I am honest, I am just as nervous as you. I am the youngest king our people have ever known, and I want to do right by them and make my father proud. I feel like you all could help me achieve everything I want too. Any questions?” “Yes, we do have a few questions, and some requests from our people to go over. We all understand the council member positions you have given and we wear them with pride. We are honoured to have them,” Magnus spoke first. It made me smile that they understood and felt honoured by me giving them these positions. I nodded, “Shall we start with the questions? Who wants to go first?” Marcelo raised his hand, and smiled, “We are all wondering, and understand that you are only fourteen, so it could be some years before you find your mate. But we would like to know if you are waiting until you have found her, like your father did?” I knew this was going to be a question. I smiled, “Truth be told, I have already found her. By our laws, I can not claim her until she is over eighteen, and I have to allow her to find out for herself, when she turns eighteen. But she had already figured out that her and I are mates.” “Who is she? Wouldn’t she already know that she is your mate? I mean if she was a dragon she would already know,” Doctor Ambrose questioned. “My mate is Elisa, Princess of all beasts. Her parents both know that I am her mate. The only thing with Lycan mating, is that she won’t know for sure until her and her Lycan turn eighteen, she can suspect and figure out who her mate is, but I would not be allowed to tell her, nor any one else for that matter,” I explained. “How long have you known,” Magnus inquired. “Since my mother was brought here to be healed five years ago,” I replied. Marcelo asked, “Why didn’t we know?” “The less people that knew, the less chance she would have been told.” “I am sorry if this sounds rude, but why would a Dragon King be fated to mate a Lycan Princess,” Thaddeus spoke out. “My parents and I had our suspicions about why, and with what we suspect. But the war began, so we were unable to confirm our suspicions.” “What suspicions were they,” asked Marcelo. I paused for a moment, looking at everyone around the room. I needed to trust them and tell them. I nodded, taking a deep breath, “Firstly, this must remain a secret, no one can know until the time is right. I do not want her to have a target on her back. My parents suspected that she might be the legendary Dragon Saviour. Nothing is for certain though. She is only ten, she needs to learn to control the powers she does have, and contain her Lycan, considering that they don’t normally get their Lycans until they are thirteen.” “She had powers,” Marcelo gasped. “She has dragon eyes, rather than the regular Lycan eyes. She can talk too, control, and summon fire as well,” I responded. “King Drake, if I may, could you request access for myself to the dragon scrolls and tomes that were put in the Lycan vaults at the palace. I believe I have read a scroll or tome, somewhere in there that could be helpful, in learning more about her being the dragon saviour,” Marcelo requested. I nodded, and jotted it down so that I would remember to request it from Robert, “I can ask, I am sure he won’t say no, as long as you only look at the dragon tomes.” “Thank you.” “So, now that Elisa has realised that she is your mate, what does that mean now,” Magnus asked. “Well, by our laws, I can’t claim her until she is eighteen. So, I have roughly eight years to wait. But that doesn’t stop us from dating,” I replied. “Or, smooching,” Kenneth chuckled. I glared at Kenneth, he just smirked at me. Magnus shook his head, “Yes, well, I think the whole kingdom has heard of how you two kissed in the school corridor. I think we should move on to any other questions." I nodded in agreement. Doctor Ambrose was next to ask a question, “What will happen in regards to training future doctors and nurses?” “We normally train them as they work along side you, isn’t that right?” He nodded, so I continued, “I believe that is how the Lycans train theirs too.” “What about training our warriors? I understand that we have been given schedules to train along with the Lycans, but they can’t train us to fight in the air or fire breath for that matter,” Ophelia inquired. She made a good point: the Lycans are great warriors, but they could not fly or breathe fire. I nodded and made a note to ask for special access to the warriors’ buildings for specialised dragon training, “I will request special access to the warriors' building so we can fulfill specialised training for our kind. Once I have a day and time, I will have Kenneth inform you, and if you three can lead the training sessions as you always do.” “One final question, what about your father, mother, and the people we left behind,” Joel asked. “I do believe King Robert has sent Lycan scouts to the dragon palace, so that they can find out what has happened to them. We should have reports in a day or two,” I informed them. “I think that was it for the questions we needed to ask. So, now it is down to the requests from our people,” Magnus said. “Yes, what requests do we have from our people,” I smiled, ready to write some notes down. “I have had a group of individuals who used to live out on the farms around the village and palace, so they wanted to know if they could convert an area of land into a farming area, get some vegetables and fruits growing, and they asked about getting the equipment and seeds they would need,” Doctor Ambrose began. “I had a feeling that would come up. Our farmers do love to be independent when it comes to their fresh produce. I will see what King Robert says about where we can farm and where we can get the equipment and seed. Did they provide you with a list of equipment and seeds for me to request on their behalf,” I inquired, as I jotted a note down about farming land. Doctor Ambrose nodded, handing me a list of equipment. At the bottom of the list, was a note that said any fruit or vegetable seeds. I smiled at the note, “Tell them I am on it, and that I want to know when it arrives, I want to help plant the seeds. It's the least I could do. Kenneth will help too. I am also sure that if I tell Elisa and Elijah as well, they will want to help. So, they will likely have a full team of royals to help them.” “That would be mighty generous of them,” Thaddeus commented. I nodded my agreement, “Okay any other requests from our people.” “Yes, some mothers with babies are requesting to know where they can go to get baby items, like toys. I know our people used to go to the sanctuary mall to do shopping for that sort of thing, but with the war, I think they are worried about travelling there,” Ophelia said. “Okay, the sanctuary buildings are controlled by the good witches, and all creatures are welcome, and there is not supposed to be any violence there. It doesn’t stop it from happening. So I can understand their fear. I will speak with Robert, see what arrangements we can make, whether we should do a bus trip with a Lycan escort. I will see what we can do,” I replied. “That is an excellent suggestion, your majesty. What should we tell them in the meantime,” Doctor Ambrose inquired. “Tell them, if it is urgently needed to inform you and I will see if Robert can sort it out, but until then, they will have to wait until we have made arrangements for their safe journey to the mall.” I made a note of what Ophelia brought up, so I could talk with Robert about it. This was a lot to talk with Robert about but I was prepared for it. That was when there was a knock on the door to the basement. It was Hayley, Magnus’ wife. She was escorting Mr Hemming down to us. Once he was in front of the table, Hayley bowed to me, quickly kissed her husband and waved to Kenneth, making him embarrassed. It made me chuckle. I nodded my head to her, before she headed back upstairs. “Welcome, Mr Hemming. I understand you have some documents for me to go over,” I smiled. “Yes, I do. These are the blueprints for your palace. This is the layout for the extension to your village. We will get more homes built for your people. This is where the new houses and the palace are being built, and when, so you can notify your people about the noise levels,” he said as he laid them out on the table in front of me. I quietly looked over the blueprints of my palace. I love the layout. The basement would include an indoor pool, a gym area, food storage, a wine cellar, a vault, and the council chambers. The ground floor would have a common room, a banquet hall, a throne room, and a kitchen. The first floor would be for guests to the dragon people. The second floor would be for the general and his family, with an office on that floor for him. The top floor would be the dragon royal family, and would contain an office for the King and one for the Queen. There would be a library attached to the king’s office. With a final study room, attached to the other side of the library to teach the future King. Each bedroom would contain a bathroom. The palace was to have a patio area, garden, and outdoor swimming pool, much like the Lycan palace. I quickly went over the other documents, before handing them out to the other council members. I rose from my seat, grabbing the notepad and pen from the table, and spoke, “Thank Mr Hemming, these are amazing. If you speak with my council members, inform them of the schedules, and see if Magnus can direct you to our people who have construction experience, maybe get them in on a rota. As for my council members, is there anything else,” I paused, and they shook their heads, “Excellent, while you look at these blueprints and schedules, I will head on to the Lycan palace with Kenneth to speak with King Robert about these things. The next meeting will be in two weeks' time, unless I call an emergency one.” They all nodded to me, and I looked at Kenneth, jerking my head towards the door, to signal that we needed to leave and head to the Lycan palace. I really needed to speak with Robert. I need to find out what has happened to my parents. I also needed to be a king and speak with Robert about these requests. All before I do my school homework. I left waving goodbye to my council and other dragons in the house, and heading up towards the palace, with Kenneth walking alongside me.
