Once outside, Leah goes to a nearby park as she feels she needs to get some fresh air after spending half the day in her room.
Sitting on a swing, she stares sadly into space as she recalls what has caused Mavis to refuse her food in the house.
A man named Duncan has been in love with Leah from the time she was in high school. He kept confessing his feelings for her but she refused to be his girlfriend because she has never been in a relationship before, she was afraid things might somehow go wrong in their relationship. After all, she is not very good at making people like her.
Duncan is an heir to Davis Enterprise, one of the most powerful businesses in the city. Being so rich and good looking, he has many women pining for him, one of them being Mavis.
Mavis got pissed that Duncan only paid attention to Leah, ignoring her no matter how hard she tried to get his attention. She started bullying her sister even more to vent her anger, even humiliating her in front of Duncan, hoping he would lose interest in Leah.
But Duncan warned her to leave her sister alone or he would make her regret her behavior in the future.
This made Leah suffer even more at Mavis's hands. Although she stopped bullying her in front of Duncan, she made sure to get back at her for not leaving Duncan alone. Duncan, of course, knew that Mavis treats her sister badly at home even though Leah refused to tell him, he could see through her, the sadness she is hiding inside.
He assured Leah if she accepted him, he would do everything to protect her from anyone who tries to bully her.
After being pursued by Duncan for several years, Leah decided to try to be closer to him and see how things would go. After all, he was one of the few people that are not affected by this loathing curse that she seems to have.
When Duncan called her while she was at college and asked if he could see her, she readily agreed. She dropped off the taxi at his company, going straight to his office after the receptionist showed her. She was shocked when she entered his office and found Mavis there, kissing him. She got disgusted and wondered if it was all a joke he had been playing on her all those years. She wouldn't be very surprised.
Later that same day, the satisfied smirk on Mavis's face when she got home made Leah want to crawl it out . She felt so stupid for thinking that she could be worth of anyone's love, let alone a powerful and handsome man like Duncan.
Yesterday, Mavis had come to her room, announcing that she was going on a date with Duncan and she would be coming home a bit late. Leah was to do whatever she could to cover up for her.
For the first time, Leah didn't do anything to defend Mavis. When their mother asked her where Mavis had gone, she simply said she didn't know.
Coming back home near midnight, Mavis had found both their strict parents waiting for her in the living room and got a good telling off.
To vent her anger, she bullies Leah and tells her not to eat any food in the house today.
Leah almost jumps out of her skin when she feels a hand touch her arm.
Standing up abruptly, she wants to run away when she sees the owner of the hand.
Talk of the devil .
"Duncan, what are you doing here?" she asks, looking at him warily.
"Looking for you. I went to your place and they told me you went out of the house so I came to look for you here. I know you like visiting the park when you aren't doing anything."
"Why are you looking for me? I don't want anything to do with you!" Leah starts to walk away, but Duncan grabs her arm and pulls her back.
"Look, I know you are disappointed by what you saw in my office the other day," he says seriously. "But I want you to know that it was just a misunderstanding...."
"Oh yes?"
"Your sister showed up in my office uninvited. She told the receptionist I told her to bring important documents to me and she was allowed to come up to my office. Before I knew what was happening, she was kissing me at the exact moment you came in. I pushed her away and ran after you but you'd already gone."
Leah waves her hand impatiently.
"She told me you went out on a date yesterday evening. You must like her for you to take her out. go away and leave me alone."
"A date? I didn't take your sister on a date. What is wrong with her? I only want you, no one else."
"Whatever. I have already changed my mind. I no longer want to get close to you so go away."
Duncan's handsome face looks slightly hurt.
"Leah I ..."
"Go away. Oh, maybe you like it here. I am going home to continue studying. See you around, Duncan."
With that, she walks away quickly without looking back.
The shadow that has been watching in the nearby bushes contemplates for a while whether to follow her or go back. To follow her, he would be risking meeting the sea prince whom he has seen around the girl, quiet and invisible all the time.
At last, he decides to just come back another day and watches as she walks away from the man, who follows shortly after, a look of sorrow in his face.
