I sit here wondering, what our dear Song Goddess was thinking when she created us. Or at least when she created me. All four feet, eight inches of me. Is it not enough that Fae people are considered to be dainty, even our males. Humans especially have depicted us as weak due to our size. Of course, this is not true.
We are not always in Fairy form. We appear human, tucking our wings away inside ourselves. We then have the ability to shift and change our sizes and our wings come out. I just happen to be on the shorter/smaller size in human form. Not, that I should be complaining or second-guessing the Song Goddesses' decisions.
Apart from being vertically challenged, I have girly parts. Yep, you read right. I have girly parts, like D cups and a perky, round ass. I was once told by a general of our Fae army, that I was thick in all the right places. I wasn’t sure how to respond to him. Seeing how I was hoping he would comment on how I just kicked the asses of three of his best male fighters, or how I happen to be the fastest flyer of all my squad. Nope, he chose to comment on my physical attributes. Not, the attributes that count, mind you. Like the muscle mass and tight abs I have accrued over the extended time I have put in at the gym or that I am able to lift many of the male members of my squad. No. He thought that telling me that I was thick in the right places were the better aspects to comment about.
I should be used to it all. Not many females of my kind, aspire to be great fighters in her highnesses army. I can actually count on one hand, how many females are part of Queen Lailane’s army, I included. Seeing how I was niece to the queen, I was judged with different standards. At least according to all the other females in my squad.
“You should just tell your aunt, what that f*****g general said to you today. He is always talking like that to us. The creep needs to be brought up on s****l harassment charges or something. I mean, how can we be taken seriously by other male soldiers if our leader is a dick.” Miranda grumbled next to me.
We were currently in one of the high trees of the palace’s gardens. Dangling our legs from one of the tallest branches.
“You know that won’t get us anywhere, Miranda. She will just end up telling my parents and neither of them agrees with me being a fighter anyways. You know they would much rather I be a nurse or food gatherer. Anything but a fighter. It's not dignified or proper for a female fairy to act. If they knew what was going down here in the training center, they would forbid me from ever coming again. I have worked too long and too hard to give up everything now. No, girl. We’ll just ignore the bastard and do us.” I say to her.
“It still sucks that we need to take all that s**t from someone like him. You can beat his ass in two seconds flat. You could easily be a general.” she says to me.
“True that. But oh well. It is, what it is.” I say back to her, not that I disagree with her. I know I would make a better general, than most of the ones we have.
Soon a small squirrel crawls up the tree and sits next to me.
“Hello, Nelphin. How has your day been?” I say to my furry friend.
“Not very well, my dear. I have been going nonstop this morning, with messages from her Highness to different members of the Fae clans. I am here to deliver one to you, dear Madelyn.” Nelphin’s squeaky voice echoes through my head.
As people of the Fae, we are able to communicate with animals of all kinds. They only talk one on one with a fairy.
“Then deliver your message and be on to your next task, my friend. Do not delay.” I say to him.
“Her highness has called you for a meeting with her and the Fairy High Council members. Today, within the hour.” He said, then quickly scurried down the tree.
“What did he say?” Miranda asks me, as she stands up.
“Aunt Lailane and the Fairy High Council want to meet with me. We should go.” I say and stand up.
We extend our wings and fly together through the sky, in the direction of the Fae castle.
To me, flying is being at peace. I love to feel the air through my wings. A fairy’s wings look to be fragile because they are see-through with a hint of color. Usually the color of their bloodlines. My royal family bloodline has a blue tint to it. However, they are made of the strongest material created. They are practically impenetrable. It is very rare for fairy wings to be damaged. Our Song Goddess made them indestructible.
Fairies also have a very long life expectancy, like forever. Yes. We are immortal. Unlike other species in our realm, we do not die easily or frequently. Even during battle, we can be injured but we are cured instantly, through our fairy magic. There are only two ways to take the immortality away from a fairy. It is quite simple and not known outside our fairy species. I mean telling our weaknesses to others would be just plain stupid.
The first is very rare and has only happened to a few fairies in my lifetime. When you detach a fairy’s wing, which is an almost impossible thing to do, you sever their lifeline connection to the Song Goddess. It will repair itself over a short time, with magic, but a fairy will slowly grow older and die of old age. By having our wings intact, with live off the life source of our Goddess. The two times, I have seen it happen have been in battle. Both times, it was due to the talons of a dragon. One of the main reasons we like to keep to our lands and why we train so hard, at fighting.
The other way we become mortal is to find our mates. Imagine that. I guess our dear Song Goddess decided that we need to have a balance to immortality. If we find our true mate and connect with them, we become mortal and grow old with our counterpart. What do I mean by connecting with them? Well, we need to and I realize this is going to sound silly and kind of cliche but we need to s….I know many are going to think that I was about to say sleep or have s*x with them. But no. We do not have to do that, at least not at first. No. We have to sing with our mates. Yes. I said to sing. Each fairy has a melody, that they are born with. Each one is unique in its own way. It may sound similar to someone of the non-fae kind. But to us, it is distinctive. My parents explained that every mated pair share the same song. They share the same melody. Each with its own part of it. The song will become complete and whole when you find that other half of yourself. Once they are found and the ritual is complete, this is where the sleeping together part comes into play, they will forever be tied to each other's lifelines. Meaning. If your mate dies, so do you. Since fairies are practically indestructible, most fairies die of old age. The mated couple grows old together and when their time comes, they die within minutes of each other.
Finding my mate has never been important to me. I have my hands full enough as it is, with proving myself to everyone around me. Ever since I was young, everyone has treated me like a baby, something that was breakable. I have worked many years, close to a century actually, to show that I am more than a defenseless female fae. Luckily, my aunt, Lailane saw the strong side of me. Unlike my parents, Queen Lailane has always supported me in everything I have chosen to do. There is nothing I wouldn’t do for her.
