“Come on, Victoria! Snap out of it. You are not concentrating.” I say to my twin sister, as she falls on her ass again.
She growls and slaps the mat with her fist. She takes off her sparring equipment and throws it down. “I’m done, Viktor. I am just not feeling up to training right now.” She says and slides under the ropes of the boxing ring.
“What’s wrong with you? You have been distracted for weeks now. Ever since we got back home from the Yellow Moon pack lands. Father is starting to notice, too.” I say to her, and take a seat on the edge of the ring, putting my elbows on the ropes.
“It’s nothing. At least nothing I can talk about. Much less to father.” she responds, with her head down.
“Has there ever been a time you couldn’t tell me something. We have always told each other everything. What gives?” I say, incredulously.
“It’s nothing to worry yourself about either, when the time comes, if it comes, I will tell you and father together. Just drop it please, I will work on getting my head back on straight.” Victoria says then turns and walks to the female locker rooms.
“What’s bothering her?” Jaxtyn, my lead commander said, as he passed Victoria.
“I don’t know man. Females. Who the f**k understands them? Even if they are your twin.” I say and slide under the ropes.
“I know what you mean, man. One minute, they all smiling and grinding up on you, the next minute they be shooting fire in your direction. We can never win,” he says, raising his hands in defeat.
“I think that only happens to you, Jax. Females usually don’t throw fire at me unless of course we playing in the bedroom.” I say with a wink.
We banter back and forth about our many s****l conquests, as we walk to the male locker rooms.
“Don’t know, how the f**k you do it, Vik. All them females throwing themselves at you, just because you are the f*****g all-mighty dragon prince, heir to the whole f*****g Dragon Kingdom. Doesn’t matter what Clan we roll up to, you got all them females jumping your junk.” Jaxtyn complains, as we hit the showers.
“What can I say, man. I am cursed.” I say, as I strip and grab a towel.
“With all them females you swap spit with, you would think you would have found your mate by now,” Jax continues as he gets in his shower stall.
Dragons find their mates through kissing. It is said that once we kiss the lips of our one, true mate, our dragon recognizes them and the color of our flames changes, as well as our eyes.
“f**k that! I don’t swap spit with none of the hoes, I take to bed. I have a strict no-kissing policy. Even though some have sneaked some in, when I have been off guard, luckily nothing has ever come of it. I don’t need a mate. I am good, just the way I am.” I say to him.
“Why not? I thought, everyone wanted to find their true mate.” he asks me, with a shocked tone.
“Mates are just liabilities. Especially to a royal. Look at what happened to my mother. Even though my father did all he could to protect her, someone still got to her the night she gave birth to us and from what Nana Chloe says, he has never been the same. I don't want to have any weaknesses, when I become king. A mate is a weakness.”I say to him. And in part,, I almost believe it.
“I guess you're right, man. But, doesn’t it get lonely? You know? Having female after female in your bed and not finding the one?” he asks me.
“Man, when did you become all touchy feely and s**t? You just worry about your love life and let me be happy with mine.” I growl at him.
Jaxtyn sighs loudly but at least he shuts up.
The truth is, Jax is right. Everyone is always looking for their one, true mate. A few decades ago, I was on the search for mine. But, the longer I came up empty and the more I thought about it. I realized that, to be a strong leader and ruler of the biggest kingdom in the magical world, I need to be untouchable. That’s why I have trained all my life to be the best in everything. I will never be called weak. I would never have any weaknesses.
Having a mate, would make me weak.
I quickly shower and get out of the stall.
“Better hurry up, Jax. We got that meeting to get to.” I yell at him as I dry myself off and change.
We have a meeting with Father and his advisory council. We need to discuss the ambassador program that the species have all agreed to partake in. At first, like my father, I was skeptical of this program. But after recent trouble with rogues in our species and in others, I agree that we need to have more open communication with the other species in our world, so that we are able to coexist in peace.
Don’t get me wrong. I love a good fight, just like any dragon.
Our kind are naturally dominant. Many fear us, as well they should. Of all the shapeshifters in our world, we by far, are the strongest and most deadly. When we mature and control our dragons, we are considered unstoppable. Not to mention the royal powers that are passed down to my sister and I.
But, sometimes for the greater good, it is best to set aside war and have peace. That is something that would benefit all in our world. So the ambassador program has been developed.
This program is where each species assigns a male and female of their kind, elfin, wolfie, vamp, dwarf, witches, dragon and the pitiful fairies, to visit other species and be a representative for their kind. In turn we will receive representatives from other species into our palace. This is something that has been unheard of, in all the history of our world. However, it was something that at a recent, first of its kind all-species meeting, was created.
We do have some technology from the human realm, like cellphones and the internet, but we like keeping our traditional ways of communicating and transporting. We have cars in our world but many dragons do not see a need for them, since we are able to travel in our dragon forms. It’s just quicker and more convenient.
Soon, Jax and I are ready and walking out of the locker rooms, discussing the suggestions for ambassadors that we want to bring up at the meeting, when Victoria meets up with us. She listens quietly as we go over the five pairs of dragons we think would do a good job.
“What do you think, Vikki?” I ask her, as we step outside the training center.
“I agree. They all sound fine to me. I will back you guys up at the meeting.” She says, still deep in thought.
Before I can ask what the hell is still bothering her, father mindlinks me, “Son, you on your way?” he asks.
“Yes, father. Vikki, Jax and I will be there shortly.” I answer him.
“Good. I’m glad Victoria is coming with you. The council and I have something very important to discuss with her.” he says.
I wonder if it has to do with what has been bothering her.
“May I ask what it entails?” I ask respectfully.
“The arranged marriage, we have prepared for her.” he answers.
I stop dead in my tracks. f**k!
