"Ah, what a tiring day." I said, walking in my room with my legs shivering for sitting too long and my head was pounding with the cases I noted down today. I sat down on the floor, removing a couple of candles from the side and deposited them on the other side. Finally some support. I closed my eyes, leaning back on the wall as I felt relief washing over me. Who knew working two jobs on earth would be much easier than working in one job in hell? "Leah Summers, am I allowed to come in?" Basilia asked me and I opened my eyes, to only let the darkness welcome me. I frowned as I was about to get up to lit them but Basilia was quick to handle the situation. "You don't need to ask, Basilia. You're my friend. Wait...... are we friends?" I asked her when she burned the candles in a flick of her fingers, making me look at her in awe. She was my inspiration. Honestly. Basilia chuckled, nodding her head as her might red frame walked inside my small room. My existence was also small in front of her giant frame. "Of course, we are friends, Leah Summers. And I never had a human friend from past many decades." "That's nice. Not to be rude or something, but is there something that brought you here at this hour?" I asked her and she nodded her head, hitting her palm to her forehead, as if she was reprimanding herself. "Yes, there's a reason! Sire is asking you to report in the kitchen now, Leah Summers. Looks like you didn't had your dinner yet." She said and I let out a sigh, nodding my head. I am hungry. "I didn't forget. I was too tired to cook now. Will it be alright if I report a few minutes later, Basilia?" I asked her and her eyes widened as she shook her head immediately. "No, no, Leah Summers. You don't keep the Sire waiting. I know things on earth were quite different than here but you don't keep the Sire waiting. In any realm." She said, and I smiled awkwardly at her. I stood up from the floor, nodding my head at her. This is her job too. Besides, my hunger is none of her concern. And yet she walked till my room. This is the least I can do. "You know, Basilia, I used to do two jobs, back on earth. And yet it wasn't as tiring as this one job." I said with an sarcastic smile and she looked at me sympathetically. "Hell consumes a lot more energy than earth, Leah Summers. Earth barely has any supernatural powers. But hell is built for the immortals and dead. You're the first mortal here. Of course, you'll be feeling more weak than on earth." She explained me and I shook my head. "Then isn't this against the rule to keep a mortal caged inside the hell?" I asked her and she simply raised her eyebrows at me. "You tried to summon the Sire, Leah Summers. Every action, deliberate or unintentional, has it's own consequences." She said, and no matter how harsh to sounded to my ears, it was true. Painfully true. But true. "You don't tell me." I said with a smile. Soon we reached the kitchen. And much to my surprise there were people already working there. I thought, I'd have to cook the dinner too. Satan was sitting on the chair, going through a magazine. I didn't knew they even existed in the hell. But it did look like a magazine to me. "Leah Summers, meet our chef, Sir Ajax. He cooks really delicious food." Basilia made me the man with dark skin. He looked at me and his lips curled up in a small smile. "You're the human everyone is talking about. Trying to summon our Sire. Well he can be unresisting at time, but child, he's a devil. Humans don't fall for demons." Sir Ajax said and my skin burned red as I turned to look at the Satan, gazing at me with his impassive eyes. Lord, why can't he just give a damn emotion? How would I know what he is thinking if he keeps looking at me with the same expressionless face? "With due respect, Sir Ajax, I didn't try to summon him on purpose. It was a misunderstanding. And I don't possess any romantic interest for Satan either." I said and he chuckled, working on his food. "But he is attractive to one's gaze, human. He is attractive to every creature, every species. And there's not a single being who can escape his charms. He is built in a way to lure his preys. Charming, seductive, beautiful but evil as the night." Sir Ajax said and I couldn't help but doubt if he liked Satan. "Night is not evil." Was all I mumbled before I sat down on the farthest seat from Satan. His eyes were still on me. Watching me with his predatory eyes. "When darkness overtakes the light and supports the crime to happen, night becomes evil, human. Do you know how many creatures your night hides? A lot of them. How many spirit travels in night? Night is evil.   When you were pulled from your realm to this realm, night helped the Sire. Would you still beleive night is not evil?" Sir Ajax said, and I smiled. "Then days are no better, Sir Ajax. Do you need any help?" I asked him and he smiled, shaking his head. "Not at all, lady human. I hope you don't mind meat." He said, and I scrunched my nose as I smiled sheepishly at him. "I'm actually vegetarian, Sir Ajax. Is there any chance, you made something that's not meat?" I asked him and he let out a sigh, raising up a large bowl in the air. "Only boiled vegetables." Why can't I just die now? What's even left to live anymore? "That's more than enough to survive, Sir Ajax." I said and I heard the Satan snorting from his seat. "Cook some rice as well and make a couple of more vegetarian dishes, Ajax. She is a human. And hell is more cruel on mortals. She needs her energy to survive her. Cook some more for her." Satan said, making my eyes to widen. What? I looked at him. His golden eyes were staring right into my soul and I quickly looked away from him. Oh, my poor heart. "It's fine, Satan ........" "It's not if I find it less, human. I'm sure you can complete your other businesses until Ajax cooks the dinner for you. My bathroom is empty as for now. Other wise, you'll interrupt my work, later on." He said and I pursed my lips in response. "I thought I wasn't supposed to wear night clothes outside my room." I said and he shook his head. "No. Basilia meant you can't wear the night dress during the day. But since it's night, in your realm, indicating you need sleep now, you can wear them. And I'm sure, others can cast their eyes down while you wear your dress." Satan said, looking at Ajax and other staff, who immediately looked down, nodding their head hastily. Satan was far more better than most human men. Or that's what I collected in a day. Instead of stopping me from wearing my "night clothes" outside, he was asking his men to not look at me in a way that would make me uncomfortable. "Okay, Satan. Thank you." He nodded his head, pushing his palm out, to tell me to leave for his room immediately. I collected my night dress, which was like a jumpsuit. It reached just above my knees. When I reached his room, I immediately rushed in the restroom. After doing my business and taking a quick bath in his bathroom, I walked out, wearing the dress. I pulled my hair up in a bun as I walked upstairs, towards the kitchen. Sir Ajax had cooked most of the things by now. "You may leave now, Ajax. And take the food for the stray animals." Satan said, taking me by surprise. Who knew Satan was capable of good deeds? But then, I barely knew him. Once Sir Ajax and his staff left, Satan and I were left alone in the kitchen. For some reason, sharing a roof with him, with no-one around felt difficult. Or maybe because he was the "Sire" after all. "Human......." "Leah. Leah Summers is my name, Satan. Why do you keep calling me by the name of my species? It's like you're not talking to me but to my entire race." I said with a frown, mixing the vegetables with the rice. "You're the only mortal of your species here. So, it's pretty much common sense that I am talking to you. Is it not?" He asked me and I clenched my jaw. "But it sounds more like an insult to me. What if I start calling you by name of your species?" I challenged him and he scoffed, eating his own meal. "I'd prefer if you'd start calling me by my title, instead. But what made you think my intention wasn't insult, human?" He asked me, making me clench my jaw at his question. Bastard. "And for your kind information, I can hear your pretty thoughts for me, human. So, if you can keep those pretty words to yourself, you won't find yourself in trouble." He warned me and the sporty part of me wanted to test him. "What if I land myself in trouble?" I asked him and he stopped chewing for a while. "Then you would've wished you never tried my patience, human. I am kind to you because you're not really causing any trouble now. You're pretty well mannered. So, don't let your curiosity get the best of you, human. You let your curiosity dominate you and guess where it brought you." He said and I swallowed harshly. The brocolli got stuck in my throat. "What about my bonus? I need money. I need to buy a certain stuffs." I said, and he shook his head. "I haven't reviewed your work yet, human. But if anything is too necessary, tell to your incharge." He said and I furrowed my eyebrows at him. "Incharge? Who's my incharge?" "Basilia. She is your incharge. You find any difficulty, you report to her. She'll report to me." He said and I couldn't help but shook my head as a smile formed on my face. "What if it's too personal to tell Basilia?" "Then I guess, you'll have to just keep it personal." He said with a shrug of his shoulders and I pulled my lips together. Rude. "And regarding you wanting to do your business in between the working hours........" He started and my cheeks burned red as I glared at him. "It was a natural process! How do you expect me to sit sixteen hours straights without urinating?" "Let me complete first, human. That's basic manners. Like I was saying, I learnt that not only you need to urinate after specific time. You also need to eat in between. Your thoughts were too loud in the courtroom." He said and I felt myself pulling on the sleeves of my night dress. "I'm sorry. I didn't realise it would disturb you." "Why are you sorry, human? You were merely thinking. And thinking isn't a sin unless it's not devastating. And you'll never lend in trouble for thinking until you don't call me names in your mind." He said and I couldn't help but laugh a bit. "Anyways, as I was saying, I realised you need breaks in between the work. So after every three hours, you'll be getting a break of twenty minutes. Though, hell has no day or night system. We have imposed it for you. To ease your working hours." He said and I couldn't help but nod my head. "Oh." "Yes. You'll be provided with a couple of fruits to munch on during those breaks. And you can do your business as well. And here, this is a watch set according to the earth. You can take help from this." He said and I felt my heart beating loudly inside my chest. "Thank you so much, Satan." But he only shook his head. "Welcome to hell." Was all he said. But it didn't sound as bad as it should. He wasn't that bad. Or that's what I thought.
